  • @9mlock Snafu shorts were not intended for children at all. Their audience at the time was strictly military servicemen. These cartoons had too much risque material at the time to show even to regular movie patrons.

  • heeeey tobacco

  • Situation .Normal A.ll F.uc...........Fouled U.p

  • @TheMrcrazy711 how does wikipedia work?

  • dat ass.... wait, oh cr-

  • 4:11 I wonder who sets booby traps in Heaven...

  • @9mlock The Private Snafu series was originally made by the man who eventually came to be known as Dr. Seuss. They were produced by Warner Brothers but made by the Dept. of Defense as humorous training videos for the Army.

  • Suicide mission camel?

  • I wonder if prvt. Snafu was somehow related to Elmer Fudd

  • Amazing how it made sense then, and still makes sense today. Everything's trying to blow you up.

  • Haha Booby traps.....

  • Gives a new meaning to the phrase "blow-up doll" HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

  • One surprising and unfortunate event is learning all the lyrics to "Those Endearing Young Charms" (Locke, 1737/Moore 1808) - I find it to be such a depressing song, sort of like "Won't you come over to my house?" (Alstyne/Williams, 1906) as featured in another Warner classic, "One Froggy Evening". I thought it was about a pedophile, not a heartsick woman who lost her daughter. Sometimes it's better that I not know the lyrics.

  • I love the old piano key gag. They use that in a couple other looney tunes shorts, don't they?

  • @DanTheManCalter Wile E. Coyote used a xylophone actually in his attempt.

As I said, I find it a depressing song.

    Believe me if all those

    Endearing young charms

Which I gaze on so fondly today

    Were to change by tomorrow

    And fleet in my arms,

    Like fairy gifts fading away

    (not the whole song)

  • It's a (booby) trap!

  • Dr. Seuss also helped animate

  • That bit at 2:01 was used in a Bugs Bunny cartoon as well with Bugs and Yosemite Sam.

  • Ohhhhhhh Boy! A Piano!

  • If you are a boob you will be traped lol

  • Man, nothing like good ol' Dr. Seuss, from back in the day..

  • @macmntr In the spirit of Disney's Jiminy Cricket, I've learned by watching all the available Pvt. Snafu flicks that he is too horny for his own good.

  • HA HA

Mel Blanc said a swear word

  • 2:26 priceless

  • All the Arab chicks are white betty paige types lol

  • LOL I laugh at the end of this....and can't even sleep on it hahah

  • American cartoons sure had a different way of pointing out their enemies than most soviet cartoons. These all make the enemy look to be a joke whereas the soviet cartoons portray their enemies as dangerous threats. Not every cartoon was like this but generally that was the big contrast.

  • he was about to hit a hookah lol

  • booby trap lol

  • Or to be more specific, titty trap! XD

  • daffy tried the piano trick on Bugs

  • lmao booby trap lol

  • I've never been in the military, but I know for sure, if you're skipping and hopping and carrying your weapon like an Easter basket, your dumb ass deserve to get shot, lol.

  • Classic. My personal favorite of the Private Snafus. A lot of these gags show up later in Bugs shorts.

  • hahahaaha that little fuckin hitler doll gave him that little tune. this cartoon is so weird. hard to think the same people helped make cartoons for kids

  • mal blanc. voice of bugs bunny and private snafu apparently

  • BOOBIE.............traps....LOL. Man this one is loaded with adult humor, Loved it!

  • I'm not sure of Clampett's involvement in this particular Snafu cartoon. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that a good majority of the Snafu cartoons were directed by Chuck Jones, along with help from a man named Ted Giesel (a.k.a. Dr. Deuss)

  • IIRC, this was written by Geisel & Jones, and directed by Clampett. It has a sort of Clampett-esque feel to it (Jones wouldn't often lend himself to some of the mad takes in this one).

  • Yeah, this is definitely a Clampett directed short. You can see some animation by Rod Scribner and Bob McKimson, who were both in Clampetts unit at the time this one was made.

Probably one of my top favorite Snafu shorts, so many good gags in this one XD

  • 4:08

    "Don't... You... Believe it!!!"

  • lol aw the hell with it.

now you would see that in cartoons

  • This certainly taught me a lot

  • Only idiots would fall for those traps

  • OH GOD LOL, "OH BOY...A PIANA! OOOOOOHHHHH BOY...TABACCO!!" Oh god this is halarious, but proboly banned from television

  • Mel Blanc - there's a little bit of Bugs Bunny in the voice!

  • "Oh boy, a piana" LOL, that gag's classic.

  • lol those endearing young charms. one of the funnest running gags in looney toons

  • Looney Toons repeats the "Endearing Young Charms" last note explodey gag in the Bugs Bunny Cartoon where he is running for office against Yosemite Sam. The title of the cartoon is "Ballot Box Bunny" from 1950 and it happens at about 6:00. I wonder how many other SNAFU gags were recycled to such excellent effect in the future?

  • OH BOY... A PIANO, OH BOY TOBACCO!!

  • It's "pie-an-uh."

  • lolololololol what a masterpeace!

  • Hooray for hookahs!

  • "AH Something new has been added" Priceless

  • this is awesome.

  • What makes this cartoon so funny is that the inevitable punchline doesn't come right away, and when it does, hilarity ensues!

  • What is the print on the top of his halo? It almost looks as though it says 1944, which makes perfect sense as this is the year that this particular SNAFU cartoon was made.

  • That's true. Perhaps it's supposed to be the year he died?

  • I think it actually says "14 KT", as in gold.

  • if i were to be caught in a trap i'd be a booby trap (.)(.) XD

  • and this was a cartoon meant for little kids? oh boy...

  • This cartoon was made during WW2 as a sort of instructional video for people who enlisted in the army. After all, it was less expensive to draw a plane then film one flying right? It also kept the viewers attention more easily.

  • I don't know if it was cheaper or not (costs went up during the war effort, animation cels often had to be washed and re-used to save costs), but you're right, it did grab the soldiers' attention. Props to Termite Terrace for doing their part for the war.

  • Funny video that's HOW old? Politically correct meant something different then. Close your eyes and you picture a long-eared rabbit.

  • I really enjoyed this one for sure Marina.

  • you know.... out of all the times he runs into the booby traps, he gets licky. he woulda been dead when he milked the camal.

  • I woulda thought the camel would have been more concerned.

  • oh boy tabaco

  • oh boy a piano

  • i wish to hell you'd shaddap... lmao!!!

  • a piana

  • they say hell lots...whom were these meant for?

  • Soldiers.

  • Soldiers.

  • Soldiers.

  • At 3:05, that's what I call a BOOBY trap!

  • now its "watch the kids this and offence that.. cartoons suck nowadays.

  • I LOVE Rod Scribner's animation at 2:17-3:00! It's so damn funny!

  • Lol! Man, The 40's was a great decade for cartoons.

  • Wow, i'd heard about our dear Private Snafu, but I didn't expect these cartoons to be so... whatchamacallit "adult-oriented"? Hehe, army folks probably enjoyed it though... The little Hitlerwith the bell is awesome too hahahaha!

  • Yep, and that's exactly who they were made for. They were good for morale so they made em for the troops.

  • Bob Clampett's cartoons are the best, as usual! This episode of Snafu is the best of the series! Thanks for posting! Clampett is the greatest cartoon director ever!

  • As usual, Bob Clampett's cartoons are the best and they make the difference also among the other Snafu shorts! Too bad he directed only two of them, this gem and "Fighting Tools". Great Clampett, the King of animation!!!!

  • Oh Boy! A Piana! Don't ask Don't Tell.

  • LMFAO as the itty-bitty Hitler! :D

  • good cartoon

  • This was obvously shown to troops as how not to act.

  • Given the camels, palm trees, minarets, harem girls, and Arabian Nights "Baghdad" decor,

this film must have been oriented towards Iraq.

  • Um...

It was more of the US troops landing in Northern Africa during WWII. Hence Hitler playing the music in Snafu's ear.

  • omg, this kills me!

  • I happen to be in that aforementioned generation of whiners and wimps, that crowd

of 'baby boomers' (born between 1946 and 1960). Where does that leave me?

Quite frankly, I do NOT like what that whiny,

wimpy contingent of my generation is doing to

Tom & Jerry and other classic cartoons! Here's

one baby boomer telling another to GET A LIFE!

  • Hahah I was just going to mention that PatrickRsGhost..I remember that Bugs cartoon with the piano.

  • This cartoon is hilarious. I love these little-known cartoons.

  • First time I've heard Mel Blanc voice a character that cussed.

  • Since these films were made as Armed Forces training films (officially part of the "Army-Navy Newsreel" program), they were exempt from the Hayes Office film code restrictions. So, you could say "Hell" and "Damn" as well as use sight gags involving female anatomy... things you couldn't do in general release cartoons.

  • That's true about getting away with more things in these cartoons. Words like Hell and damn were practically off-limits in regular cartoons and feature films back then. SNAFU cartoons weren't shown to the general public, and they were aimed at adult males in the service, so there would naturally be more sex and foul language in these. Still pretty tame for today's standards though.

  • Even Snafu's name was nearly taboo for the Army. The first cartoon ("Coming: Snafu" 1943) explains his name as "Situation Normal, All..." (long pause) "All Fouled Up".

  • ooo I they pulled that piano prank on Bugs Bunny before. And Private Snafu sounds just like Bugs Bunny too! ( well it figures since Mel Blanc did almost ALL the voices back then )

  • Soldiers dnt come into thze heaven !

  • "Hey....I wonder could this be one of them there booby traps." is animated by McKimson.

  • hey now, hey now! I had some crap teachers but you gotta make a point of learning that shit yourself, not trust school to tell you everything. Few are honest or as educated as they oughtta be. Think, "I don't know about WW2. Better read about it and find out!" I wish history was considered more important. It's freakin fascinating.

  • This cartoon is a first in one way: the booby-trapped piano. Snafu was the first one to fall for the piano and decide to play "Those Endearing Young Charms", a gag later sprung on Bugs Bunny twice (once on piano, again on xylophone). Unlike Snafu, though, Bugs tries to play the song again and again but gets the wrong note, however, the one trying to destroy him hits the right note (Yosemite Sam on the piano, Daffy Duck on the xylophone).

  • Hehehee... I didn't expect the bugs bunny voice. XD

  • I sincerely doubt that your history teachers, football coaches or not, ignored the African portions of WWII. You're just stupid.

  • My high school in suburban Philadelphia (class of 1982) never taught the North Africa campaigns, either.

However, there was a 1960's TV series about that part of the war. It was called "The Rat Patrol", which showed in reruns on the local UHF channels.

Fortunately for me, I'm mainly self-educated - I had college-level knowledge of history by the time I was in 6th grade.

Bill in historic Bucks County, PA

  • At best my history courses in high school only got as far as the 1930s-we never got to the 1940s or the US official involvement in WWII. I say at best because my American History course didn't even get to the 20th century

  • This is amazing, especially the second one. It makes sense, but I've never seen that image before.

  • I love the "Tobacco!" joke. Very raunchy for a cartoon these days, but hilarious just the same. I wish more of these kinds of cartoons would air on TV, but the stupid baby-boomer execs whine about it all the time. Look what they're doing to Tom & Jerry now! It's a crying shame!

  • come to australia, we have a channel that plays old cartoons and stuff. it even plays tom and jerry episodes that have mammy two shoes in them.

  • They have the cartoons on DVD, though some of the Tom and Jerry cartoons are edited on DVD. The Looney Tunes, however, are uncut, uncensored, and in better shape than they were when they first came out.

  • Awesome.

  • The animation of his face in the "I wish to hell you'd shut up." scene is immaculate. Probably animated by Rod Scribner. This is my favorite Snafu cartoon, Bob Clampett is a genius.

  • Nothing new has been added - WWII was in the desert from about 1941-43 when there was a major campaign underway in North Africa. Ever hear of George Patton or Erwin Rommel (a.k.a. the Desert Fox)?

  • Lmao

this was the funniest out of the other two I saw lmao

the voices especially the "Cold dis be a booby twrap?"

    "Eeeeeeeeeh.... Could be...."

    XD

  • lol ^0^
