I have this problem that whenever I try to sing, I try so hard to imitate...I cant seem to stop this voice telling me to sing like the orignal.. any hints on how to stop being a mere imitator and start making the songs I like my own??

Revisa tus acordes, por ejemplo, si estás en A, el segundo acorde es B7. Tienes buena voz.
Checks your chords, for example, if you are in A, the second chord is B7. You have a good voice.
