Paul voice sounds terrible here, this was when he was going through that phase of vocal gymnastics, it was like hearing a gerbil with it's nuts in a vice. The brought the song back to a much more listenable version on the Revenge Tour.

It's called the 'Do you remember who I was' bass. A little tip 'o the hat to Gene's past. The band was beginning to live off it's past at this point; using the classic songs to sell new crap Like X In Sex on Smashes, Rashes, and Hits, or packaging vintage footage on stuff like Kiss Exposed.

If they could have carried on without the make-up, they wouldn't have went back to playing with Peter and Ace which brought Kiss to a rustier level of playing. IF they could have stayed plugging away with the revenge era band, they would have done so. The band ran out of steam and a reunion with Peter and Ace was the easy fix to their problem, even if they DID think Peter and Ace were fuck ups who couldn't play well anymore, Kiss needed the money.

Maybe I misread your comment a bit but I read somewhere that KISS needed the money in 1996 for the reunion tour? Yes, KISS needed the reunion tour because if they should go on without the makeup they would have ended up playing clubs. But come on ffs, KISS didn't need money. Do you know how much money they made in 1978? Again, if I misread your comment - I apologise but it sounded like you said that KISS had run out of money.

astrella, I have no idea what you are talking about. YES, Eric sure does play the drums different, and it is way WORSE! It reminds me of a fifteen year old who is trying his best to get as many beats in as possible in order to ROCK IT OUT, except that when he does this --- all the original groove is missing. It is way too forced sounding. Bad assessment bro! Sorry, but someone has to say it. WTF were they thinking? I heard kiss years later, and fortunately they had reigned him in by then.
