You can call London Museum yourself. I did and they said there is no such a letter at all.

Sadly there are many Western Iranians who neglected their Iranian culture which is by default Islamic, and they chose to dream about ancient pride just for the sake of arguing. They fail to understand that our Iranian ancesstors chose Islam by full will, atleast my ancesstors were zoroastrian priests and accepted Islam totally.

I don't think it is fake, although there is no way to prove it. What I do know is that the contents of this letter are consistent with all other historical documentation of that time. Funny that all of a sudden Moslems of all people are searching for proof of things! Maybe I can say I know its not fake because Allah spoke to me and told me that its not fake. Maybe that would what you need to hear to convince yourself that these documents are real.

Who knows who was whose grandfather then? I am surprised how one can be so sure. There was a program I watched on day. DNA analysis revealed that some right wing British were actually from North Africa, Middle East, Russia etc. So do not feel so sore about ancient times.

Interesting point, however, if your observation is correct why not rather than calling it fake consider that someone may have rewritten the letter in the Naskh as it became the preferred method of writing. In fact if someone were to fake the letter they could have faked it in Kufic just as well.

This document is apparently in the British museum. Id think that it is at the least authentic in terms of its relative age, which is something that can be verified. So the question becomes why would someone within a couple of hundred years of the event (and not recently mind you) fake the letter. If an Iranian wrote it, he must have at least been portraying the sentiments of the first few centuries immediately after the Arab invasion, which in and of itself is noteworthy!

This Letter is either really sloppy kufic, or really hastily written naksh. It could not have been an official document used or authorized by Umar.

It is not even like earlier versions of NASKH. Time of Omar the script was Kufic.

As for Islam, the words in Qoran speak volumes about this religion: Surah 4-34 ...As to those women on whose part you fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly);... May god help us if this is the religion of peace. Perhaps for Bedouins this was progress.
At any rate, I still dont have a prob lem with Iranians wanting to remain Muslim, as long as they leave otjers alone and let them be free.

Anyway, my point of this clip is that the letter claimed to be of Omar is a fake one, does not exist in any museum in the world, has not been recorded in any history book and it just appeared on NITV first time when read by an ultra nationalist (better say ancientalist) Elham Sataki. So why are so angry at revealing such a fact about a forgery?

Now we have a situation in which the people of Iran are so alienated from the theocratic government of their country that they are willing to reinvent the past to eradicate the present. For better or worst we will see a huge wave of nationalism in Iran. This wave will sweep the country without warning. Hopefully it will not be violent, and it would accept Islam as a legitimate part of Iran not the whole of Iran, something that the current regime in Iran does not want acknowledge.
