@MR2cee2 Yeah, Lao sound is nice, but what makes it sounds so nice in this video, is this wonderful sweet voice of Sandra. She is sweeter than honey and sugar mixed together, everybody like her, i never found anybody who said doesn t like her. SANDRA NGAAM LAAI LAAI DEU
She didn't speak 100% Lao that's why they could understand each other. She spoke Loa with a lot of Thai words. But that's more and more common Laos as Loas seem to borrow a lot of Thai words and used as their own and seem to believe that they belong to their culture.
@toddajohnson82 Yeah but this is specially true in Vientiane. Laos from Luang Prabang or Savannakeht or Pakse is quite different and have little Thai borrow words. Also Taxi drivers in Bangkok would have more trouble to understand it. The fact is Vientiane people can speak may words of Thai and mix together because the influence of Thai TV.
Laos and Thai languages 90% the same, we can learn English, France, Russia and etc... If you are Laos or Thai and said you do not understand the Laos or Thai languages. That mean YOU "B**Sh**t* YOURSELF...
I'm Lao and I have Thai friends from Bangkok who understand Lao perfectly. Most of the taxi drivers in Bangkok also say they understand Lao from Laos much easier than Lao spoken by people from Isaan. And for anyone who can not hear very well what language Alexandra is speaking, I can assure you that she speaks Lao with a true Lao accent. The hosts seem to not have any problem understanding her either. She's very cool, comfortable, and unpretentious - great representations of Lao character.
Anyways hac, hoo, haung, I like the r sound rac, roo, raung better. How the heck did Lao use hac(love), hac(break), hac(flat), I know they are synonyms and have different meanings but the meanings are so different, why say Hac for love but use it as hac for flat face?I realize they have different tones and all.
Honestly I think the really dark skinned unattractive ppl that show as "Lao" are really mostly Khmer ppl who are mostly dark skinned.Sorry guys no offense.
i disagree with u that her voice is bad . she has much control her voice . when she sings . She is the one in Laos that i am proud of her so much . such voice and knowledge .

Siam had relation closely to Indian more than Laos because of sea boundary. It look like British use Latin words instead of native English. For me who is Thai, I can understand southern Thai, Lanna, Laos, but I cannot understand Tai in Shan state or Tai in Vietnam.
@ajajaj2k4 That's not completely true. Isaan does not necessarily = Laotian, because Siamese, Cambodians, and Vietnamese also live in Isaan. Laotian influences can be found in Isaan, but an Isaan person cannot claim Laotian ancestry unless he has Laotian blood. Cambodians in southern Isaan region cannot claim to be Laotian despite the fact that Isaan had once belonged to Laos. But interestingly Isaan used to belong to Cambodia as well.

Looks very ghetto. Is this from the 90's? When comparing with U.S. talk shows this looks like something from the 90's. Look at the couch and background. This interview was probably done by a small broadcaster. I though this was channel 7.
There are heaps of Lao girls that more beautiful and smarter than her in many different fields. They might not have a chance to show off in media spot, but Alexandra is OK. In fact, Lao and Thai ancestors have a close relationship and cross marriage among us for long, long time until now, let alone Lao princesses who were taken to Thailand during war time.
Im 17. im Thai. i speak Thai but also understand Lao too. I love this song so much. Alexandra's voice is so great that makes me love her and her songs.
Some Lao people think that Thai people despise their country but i think that's not true. just when Thai teenagers want to say about somebody that do something quit not well we say 'Lao'. im so sory about that and i cant explain why the fuck that slang is happen.
I love Thailand and Lao and i never despire coz i know that WE ARE THE SAME! :)
No, you're wrong. She's speaking Lao language. Your logic is like saying British people are speaking "American" English wrong. She wasn't trying to speak Thai.
Jao means Lord so yes Thai epic films show people saying Jao to one another. Jao is a respectful term since it means Lord. Lao language is more traditional than Thai, which is why we have words that don't exist in the Thai language..
@laoboitube jao in thai langauge back then is use by higher general like kings and queens and high rank official..but they threw that word out came the new era rattanakosin.
@KoadPauLaoDang thai understand lao but dont brag about it like lao brag they understand thai but relaly they understand some...thai sometime act like they dont understand either because they dont care or stuck up...like white american toward black.
@KoadPauLaoDang, wtheck? thai/lao is practically the same...she's speaking lao and they fully understand her b/c " they are carrying on a perfect conversation"... i dont see NO "thai/lao language interpreter" between them, do you? this vids proves that thai's do understand lao regardless of what "some thai's" claim that they dont....now that i call BS!!!
@toddajohnson82, somehow you must have misinterpret my above comment, i said thai/lao is "practically the same"..."practically means almost, near"....i didnt say thai/lao is the same....certain words we use may differ and some are the same but we can still manage to comprehend each other...
When I'm with Americans I speak English to them. There's nothing wrong with speaking another language especially when you're in their country. The point is that she speaks Lao on Thai TV, but when the camera is off I'm sure she can speak Thai to the Thai production crew. That show was taped in Thailand afterall. Viewers see the stuff that is aired rather than when the cameras are off. Alexandra is promoting our lovely Lao language on TV.
Paul, no one is forcing you to speak our language.
oo i didnt know...i can only catch some words that i know and those are the ones in thai so i thought she was speaking thai...im sorry..so can both thai and laos understand eachother
No worries. You're not the first to have done that. =)
Both Lao and Thai language originated in southern China from the same ancestors. Both languages have evolved and diverged slightly from one another, but many of the words in both languages are still the same so, yes, Lao and Thai can understand each other. So Alexandra was using Lao words, but Thai language also shares those words with us. Listen to a Lao song by searching for "maduzai Lao" on Youtube and tell me if you can understand it.
while listening to the song i did hear familiar thai words that i always hear in thai lakorn but i did start to hear other words that wasnt familiar or almost the same but it seems to be pronoucne differently...is that right?...so lao contains some thai words too right?
Both Lao and Thai contain shared words that are neither solely "Lao" or "Thai" because those basic words exist in both languages. These two languages came from the same root in the region that's now southern China/northern Laos. If you're saying that Lao contains Thai words, then you can also say that Thai contains Lao words. That's why it's best to say that they contain "shared" words...not belonging to just Lao or Thai.
You're welcome. I also forgot to mention that yes some words are the same, some are pronounced slightly differently, and some are completely different.
"Know" in Lao is Hoo, but Roo/Loo in Thai.
"Love" in Lao is Huk, but Ruk/Luk in Thai.
"You" in Lao is Jao, but Tur in Thai.
"I" in Lao is Khoi, but Chun in Thai.
There's also many Lao words that don't exist in Thai.
That's right. :) But I also want to point out that the pronouns Khoi(via Kha-noi ข้าน้อย) and Jao(เจ้า) do exist in Thai, but they're obsolete. They are rather archaic(like the use of "thou" in English for example.) If you like watching Thai dramas and movies, sometimes you might hear "jao" being used. Have you seen Suriyothai? In the film, "jao" is used so many times.
@laoboitube i think thai have more words then lao... because in laos women and men use the same word. in thai men and women use different words to talk. when a guy talk to girl he call himself pom girl sue chun more. tur use by mostly girls. guys r mostly ang kae is talk to friends.
@Sisamoot84 I think Lao as more native words because we have many ways to express a thought, but Thais tend to use the same words over and over again. Lao also has different levels for saying I and You. Lao is more traditional like British, but Thais are like Americans...a mix of foreign cultures. Anyway, I don't have a problem with Thais talking badly about Lao, because we say bad things about Thai too. There are Lao and Thai who are nice and don't belittle the other.
@laoboitube Lao writing and language existed first.Evidence comes from southern China. That is why both languages are so similar when a groups of ppl broke off and became "Siam" they developed their own tones, dialects, and accents.Anyways Alexandra is smart for pulling out of Thailand.I'm sure her father told her you can't make a living in Thailand forever, you have other things to do.
It's incredible how White Blood can really improve the beauty factor. If you think she is beautiful, also please see Nat Myria Benedetti. She is 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Thai.
This girl actually speaks Northeastern Thai/Lao. Her accents speaks volume. She is very sweet and charming.
Excuse you? We're not Thai. We speak Lao language. Alexandra is a Lao girl from Laos. Please don't ever refer to her as a northeastern Thai. That's considered an insult to us because we speak Lao, not Thai. Alexandra was speaking Lao in the video.
laoboitube - Do you know that historically, both Thais and Laos are one of the same people who migrated to where we are today from Southern China. We are the same people who migrated in different waves. For that matter, you should see the history of the Tai people who migrated to Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Burma, Eastern India, Napal and Northern India. Even in China today there are people who are our relatives, and speak identical language as we do. Think in terms of the Tai people.
I understand, but you don't see Lao people telling others that Thai people are actually speaking Lao language. So out of mutual respect, please don't refer to our language as Thai, since our language is Lao. Yes, both languages came from a similar source but we're still two separate countries. Please respect that. Alexandra is a Lao celebrity and she speaks Lao.
laoboitube - Nation States are political construct (I have a degree in political science). Instead of looking at the Lao and Thai are two separate countries, think in terms of Nation. For example, the Chinese people in China, Taiwan, Singapore, and other Asian countries, and throughout the world are all Chinese.
In the same way, Lao and Thai are the same people. We came from the same place. Did you know that our people had 5 kingdoms in China before we lost these Kingdoms to the Han Chinese ?
laoboitube - Lao and Thai connection is not only by way of language (People who speak the same language or not necessarily the same people. For example, people who speak English are worldwide, but they are not the same people). Actually, Tai people share the same Genetics make up that others do not have. Studies have been done that we Tai people have DNA that the Han Chinese do not possess. We are more linked than just language. We are the same people.
But you're trying to lump Lao in with Thai, but Lao people aren't trying to lump Thai in with Lao. Lao people are not Siamese and we're also not Khmer. That's why you can't assume that Lao and Thai people are one and the same.
laoboitube - Although no such studies have been done, I dare say that if DNA and GENETICS studies are conducted, teh conclusion will be that we are one of the same people seperated by Politics.
In fact, if you travel North on the Makong RIver to China, you will find Tai villages that speak our language and have the same Buddhist culture.
Sweetheart, you cannot resist the truth. We are one of the same people.
Sweetheart? ummmm no. Despite your degree, you don't seem to understand that Thai is a nationality and there are Chinese and Khmer people who are Thai and live in Thailand. So how can you incorrectly assume that Lao and Thai people are automatically the same? There's different ethnic groups living in both Laos and Thailand. It's time for you to accept reality.
Please stop assuming that you know more than others. It's unfortunate that you've got a degree in PC, but don't know the difference between ethnicity and nationality. America has the most ethnic groups on the planet since it's a melting pot of various cultures, so does this mean that everyone is related to American people? Can you accept that Lao and Thai people are not necessarily related since there are Khmers and Chinese in Thailand who are considered Thai. Your assumptions are flawed.
Set your degree aside because I need you to accept common sense. Northern Thais are related to Lao people, but not all Thais are related to Lao people. Being Thai in and of itself does not guarantee that someone is related to Lao people. Anyway, we speak Lao. Don't refer to our language as northeastern Thai unless if you want us to refer to Thai language as southwestern Lao. You get my point now?
laoboitube - Young Lady, if this makes you happy to remain separate, sure, I can do this for you.
Do you know that the Scots, Walsh and the Irish are are Celts, the original people of Great Britain before the islands were invaded by then Normans, the Anglos and the Saxons. Otherwise, they are the same people who once dominated the entire Western Europe. In the same way, the Tai people were members of the same greate nation of Tai people.
Honey, you cannot change the history of our people.
@1962SatanTookOver2 she does not speak Northeastern Thai dialect, her accent is Vientianne accent. The Northeastern "Isaan" accent of Thailand comes from Savannaket accent in Laos.
Thailand is worsen than Laos about safety and security. There are more crimes, robberies, rapes, murders, and violences in Thailand than laos. Tourists are being killed inThailand every year.
She is so smart, But if I have a good chance like her I believe I can speak more than 6 languages. I can speak five languages now. Chinese, Lao, thai, english and hmong.
She is so amazing!!! True genius . I just love the way she carries herself She must be the most iconic person in Laos. Best of luck w/ whatever you do. Love the Lao song
because if you are white in thailand it meens that you are rich enough to stay out of the sun, just like it was in europe for 200 years ago, it is not because they think whit people is any better than thai,, not at all:)
they think white is right...theres an old theory, if you are dark then you are poor and/or you are a laborer. If you are light skinned you are smart because you have an office job.
I know! Most Thai are racist. They seems to look down on darker people who live in rural area. But these darker skins are the native of south east Asia.
Alexandra speaks Lao with a Vientiane accent, which is considered a city accent because Vientiane is the capital of Laos. Vientiane is located in central Laos. There are three main regions in Laos (Northern, Central, and Southern). Most Lao people in the U.S. speak with a southern Lao accent. Most Thai Issan people have an accent that is similar to a southern Lao accent. Alexandra's accent represents central Laos, but Lao women from northern Laos tend to speak even sweeter than Alexandra!
Muang Laos is found by our Tai Prince name KHUN LO, Chao FaNgum is his lineage. More to say you are Tai Lao bloodline, pass it on to your children generation...
Lao history begin with the Tai Prince named Khun Lo.
Khun Lo VS Khom, Khmer Empire in Northern Laos.
Khun Lo took Muang Swa, the current Laung Prabang and renamed the town to Chiang Torng (Golden Town) in 698.
I love Thai Lao so much. I learned how to speak Thai, but I didn't know Lao was so similiar in Thai. That's cool, I can speak with Lao people too or Lao people can speak with me..
salexfr, I don't want to compare Lao artist and Thai artist, I think they are totally different quality. Comparing Lao with Thai is like comparing Bangkok city and Vientaine city. Have you ever been to Bangkok?
I heard she says that her dad is Lao and her mom is what ... Can someone tell me here.

Some Lao people think that Thai people despise their country but i think that's not true. just when Thai teenagers want to say about somebody that do something quit not well we say 'Lao'. im so sory about that and i cant explain why the fuck that slang is happen.

No, you're wrong. She's speaking Lao language. Your logic is like saying British people are speaking "American" English wrong. She wasn't trying to speak Thai.
@alifshinobi
Jao means Lord so yes Thai epic films show people saying Jao to one another. Jao is a respectful term since it means Lord. Lao language is more traditional than Thai, which is why we have words that don't exist in the Thai language..

Paul, no one is forcing you to speak our language.

laoboitube 2 years ago
oo i didnt know...i can only catch some words that i know and those are the ones in thai so i thought she was speaking thai...im sorry..so can both thai and laos understand eachother
TrulyalwaseYours 2 years ago
Listen to a Lao song by searching for "maduzai Lao" on Youtube and tell me if you can understand it.
laoboitube 2 years ago
while listening to the song i did hear familiar thai words that i always hear in thai lakorn but i did start to hear other words that wasnt familiar or almost the same but it seems to be pronoucne differently...is that right?...so lao contains some thai words too right?
aniwase thanks i learned something new today
TrulyalwaseYours 2 years ago
Both Lao and Thai contain shared words that are neither solely "Lao" or "Thai" because those basic words exist in both languages. These two languages came from the same root in the region that's now southern China/northern Laos. If you're saying that Lao contains Thai words, then you can also say that Thai contains Lao words. That's why it's best to say that they contain "shared" words...not belonging to just Lao or Thai.
laoboitube 2 years ago
aha yea thats what i meant to say
aniwase thanks again
TrulyalwaseYours 2 years ago
You're welcome. I also forgot to mention that yes some words are the same, some are pronounced slightly differently, and some are completely different.
"Know" in Lao is Hoo, but Roo/Loo in Thai.
"Love" in Lao is Huk, but Ruk/Luk in Thai.
"You" in Lao is Jao, but Tur in Thai.
"I" in Lao is Khoi, but Chun in Thai.
There's also many Lao words that don't exist in Thai.
laoboitube 2 years ago
@laoboitube
In the film, "jao" is used so many times.
alifshinobi 2 years ago
Jao and Ka noi use a lot in chinese ancient series. If you don't believe, watch Thai chinese dubb drama.
KoadPauLaoDang 2 years ago
@laoboitube Not 100% I believe. x) We have so many forms of I/You.ฉัน/เธอ informal,eh??...I can understand Lao very okay because I'm Tai-Yuan.
219Sdw 1 year ago
@laoboitube i think thai have more words then lao... because in laos women and men use the same word. in thai men and women use different words to talk. when a guy talk to girl he call himself pom girl sue chun more. tur use by mostly girls. guys r mostly ang kae is talk to friends.
Sisamoot84 1 year ago
@Sisamoot84 I think Lao as more native words because we have many ways to express a thought, but Thais tend to use the same words over and over again. Lao also has different levels for saying I and You. Lao is more traditional like British, but Thais are like Americans...a mix of foreign cultures. Anyway, I don't have a problem with Thais talking badly about Lao, because we say bad things about Thai too. There are Lao and Thai who are nice and don't belittle the other.
laoboitube 1 year ago
@laoboitube Lao writing and language existed first.Evidence comes from southern China. That is why both languages are so similar when a groups of ppl broke off and became "Siam" they developed their own tones, dialects, and accents.Anyways Alexandra is smart for pulling out of Thailand.I'm sure her father told her you can't make a living in Thailand forever, you have other things to do.

1962SatanTookOver2 2 years ago
Excuse you? We're not Thai. We speak Lao language. Alexandra is a Lao girl from Laos. Please don't ever refer to her as a northeastern Thai. That's considered an insult to us because we speak Lao, not Thai. Alexandra was speaking Lao in the video.
laoboitube 2 years ago
laoboitube - Do you know that historically, both Thais and Laos are one of the same people who migrated to where we are today from Southern China.
1962SatanTookOver2 2 years ago
I understand, but you don't see Lao people telling others that Thai people are actually speaking Lao language. So out of mutual respect, please don't refer to our language as Thai, since our language is Lao. Yes, both languages came from a similar source but we're still two separate countries. Please respect that. Alexandra is a Lao celebrity and she speaks Lao.
laoboitube 2 years ago
laoboitube - Nation States are political construct (I have a degree in political science).
1962SatanTookOver2 2 years ago
That is total nonsense!!!!!
tumsabai1 1 year ago
laoboitube - Lao and Thai connection is not only by way of language (People who speak the same language or not necessarily the same people. For example, people who speak English are worldwide, but they are not the same people). Actually, Tai people share the same Genetics make up that others do not have. Studies have been done that we Tai people have DNA that the Han Chinese do not possess. We are more linked than just language. We are the same people.
1962SatanTookOver2 2 years ago
But you're trying to lump Lao in with Thai, but Lao people aren't trying to lump Thai in with Lao. Lao people are not Siamese and we're also not Khmer. That's why you can't assume that Lao and Thai people are one and the same.
laoboitube 2 years ago
laoboitube - Although no such studies have been done, I dare say that if DNA and GENETICS studies are conducted, teh conclusion will be that we are one of the same people seperated by Politics.
In fact, if you travel North on the Makong RIver to China, you will find Tai villages that speak our language and have the same Buddhist culture.
Sweetheart, you cannot resist the truth. We are one of the same people.
1962SatanTookOver2 2 years ago
Sweetheart? ummmm no. Despite your degree, you don't seem to understand that Thai is a nationality and there are Chinese and Khmer people who are Thai and live in Thailand. So how can you incorrectly assume that Lao and Thai people are automatically the same? There's different ethnic groups living in both Laos and Thailand. It's time for you to accept reality.
laoboitube 2 years ago
laoboitube, Sweetheart (assuming that yoyu are a girl), please accept science.
1962SatanTookOver2 2 years ago
Please stop assuming that you know more than others. It's unfortunate that you've got a degree in PC, but don't know the difference between ethnicity and nationality. America has the most ethnic groups on the planet since it's a melting pot of various cultures, so does this mean that everyone is related to American people? Can you accept that Lao and Thai people are not necessarily related since there are Khmers and Chinese in Thailand who are considered Thai. Your assumptions are flawed.
laoboitube 2 years ago
I meant to say PS, not PC.
laoboitube 2 years ago
Set your degree aside because I need you to accept common sense. Northern Thais are related to Lao people, but not all Thais are related to Lao people. Being Thai in and of itself does not guarantee that someone is related to Lao people. Anyway, we speak Lao. Don't refer to our language as northeastern Thai unless if you want us to refer to Thai language as southwestern Lao. You get my point now?
laoboitube 2 years ago
laoboitube - Think China south of the Yangze River. That is where we all came from.
I believe you are simply blinded by politics. Think nationhood and genetics.
