I never really liked Catalina(Katherine). Yes, I felt sorry for her, but at the same time, no. Catalina was raised by her mother, the infamous religious fanatic Isabel de Castilla, to be the Queen of England. She was taught how a Queen should be able to rule but still bow down to the King's every wish. Catalina did this, there are records that show she even encouraged Henry to have affairs. I doubt she ever really 'loved' him, most likely she thought of him as a little boy, mothering him.
I feel very sorry for Catherine, she never eally had a large period in her life where she was just happy, it was little bits of happiness then lots of sorrow, a Great Queen.
Maybe if she let Henry go instead of using her influence as the Popes cousin to fight the annulment she would have had more happiness. I don't think she was a great queen, tho. She was too strongly tied to Rome. that is not what England needed. Besides, she was the mother of the worst queen in Englands history. Bloody Mary.
But Henry's worst fear was that England would become Catholic after him. thats why he wanted a boy so bad. That just doesn't seem to tie with this loss of cathy you guys are talking about.
no, his worst fear was that by not having a son, there would be another civil war that would divide the country like it had before his father had married his mother, bringing together both the lancastrian line and the yorkist line, and putting an end to the horrible sufferings of the war of the roses. This is what Henry feared most. And why he so desired a son.
my fav is Anne Boleyn, but you cant help but like all of the wives for what they all had to go through. Katherine of Aragon with all that humiliation, Anne with false accusations,Jane Seymour, though my least favorite, died in childbirth, Anne of cleves being disliked on site, Katherine Howard being 15 and foolish girl, and Katherine PArr with the constant threat of the tower. They rock, the wives!
i'm a big catherine fan as well...I thought I was alone as I always see folks support ann ....I think I'm going to name my next daughter catherine..she is such a strong and powerful woman! go catherine
i simply adore queen katherine... and i wish henry would realize what a jewel he holds in his hands but we all know that in the end he didn't choose her...
But he never really was happy - he got a bug face full of karma, if you ask me... and i love that while he would do anything to get a boy child, his DAUGHTER Elizabeth was the best leader England had or would see for a long, long time. She was amazing!! So if there had been no Anne Boleyn, there would have been no Elizabeth... and England really prospered under her. (And they stopped killing those of us who like to have our own Bibles!)
Karma bitchslapped Anne on Katherine's behalf as well!Not only did all the issues that Catherine had to deal with in her marriage to Henry(infidelity,inconstant affection,open flaunting of a woman in her face)come back to haunt Anne but on the day Catherine died,Anne miscarried the son that would've saved her life.
Karma vindicated Anne if you ask me. Her greatest fear, that Mary, and not Elizabeth would take the throne was averted. So, I think if Anne knows that from heaven she is glad she did what she did. Besides, Anne had no way of knowing Catherine would end up dead. She figured there would be an annulment. its Catherine heself that fought the annulment and insured that she eneded up dead.
Comments like the show you need to read up on Mary, because she was certianly not the worst Queen nor was she "Bloody" you need to read up on Catherine some more too, and her reasons beind it. They didn't need lins with Rome? In the opinion of almost the whole of the English population, yes they did.
