Honestly, I'm an 18 year old male- but several weeks ago, I found myself wondering, 'How on earth did women take care of their babies before all of this nonsense with doctors and hospitals came into the picture?' Then I found that Ron Paul was a supporter of this 'midwifery' thing. I think it's an awesome deal, I hope it eventually becomes a widely accepted thing. Hospitals are freaky.
In my opinion, there is a place for OBGYNs in midwifery, when there are complications and only then!!! Giving birth is natural and should be treated as such, it is not an illness or disease.
Well, when you have placenta praevia, did your body "do things right", or did your body screw up? If you're hemorrhaging after delivering, did your body "do things right", or did it screw up?
The reason medicine exists is because mother nature screws up and kills people from time to time. OBGYNs aren't there to dictate how birth is supposed to take place. They are there to see to it that you and your baby make it through childbirth in good health in the event that mother nature screws up.
I believe that with the Going green moment and being natural and with the word spreading about home birth and midwives. Things are gong to change. I dont believe in doctors, I have had major problems caused by doctors with my reproductive organs. I feel the calling to be a doula! I would love to help women though the birth process and experience the wonderful blessing of life brought into the world if you feel the call do it! Great video! Speak out!
I have been reading up a lot on this because I feel called to be a midwife. However, midwifery is also not legal in NC unless you are an CNM, which is quite discouraging. This video, however, is very encouraging and will keep me pressing on!
This is Lauren from the video. FYI my birth was amazing! My daughter was born 2-24-08 at home, in water and is thriving. I will definitely have all my babies at home!
I live in Oregon and the model here for midwives is great! You can be licensed, or not, but you need a license to administer IV's and other meds. I think this keeps everyone safe.
I've seen the video and I really approove what you're doing. I'm from the Netherlands and I'm a midwife-student.
Maybe it's interesting for you to have a look at the Dutch system, because midwifes here are medical professionals and we support natural birth at home. With a good education there is just as much risk at giving birth at home as at the hospital. That's why it's very normal here to deliver at home, in a save environment.

The hospital is the right setting for birthing. Proper equipment, proper staff and expertise is WELL above the level and competency of a midwife.
Birthing in general is just plain DANGEROUS - especially in a home setting.
