I tried using it and Sculptris was using 100% of the i7 processor and my Dan was running like crazy. I have 16 gb ram and a gtx570m graphics card. is there a way to make this program run without crashing?
This has to be the best easy 3d sculpt software i've ever used you should try i its so simple to get an object going, the wonderful thing I like about it its such a small piece of software on your hard drive and the ease of use for a beginner is astounding great if you have not got a lot of time to create GO GET IT !!
@GamingToaster This thing has all of five buttons, a little exaggeration but this program is very simple compared to Zbrush. It also has one amazing feature, the ability to add geometry as you are sculpting to only the areas that you are adding detail to. The learning curve on this is very small, you can learn all the controls in a half hour. It's also free. Zbrush is much more complex to pick up, you could use zbrush for years and still not have tried all the features.
Pixologic did pick this software up and the developer is now working for them. It looks to me that all the features in Sculptris are actually in Zbrush minus the dynamic tesselation. Pixologic actually pretty much calls Sculptris a gateway sculpting program to Zbrush and that when you are ready you can move to Zbrush. Check the sculptris feature page and read the bottom paragraph. The controls are almost the same so rotating and navigating around your model won't be foreign between programs.
... found this on stuble upon. didnt see that it was free till now. wasthinking the entire time "now thats what i've been wanting to do, but that kinda stuff is soooo expensive..."
I DLed it yesterday, and I'm having tons of fun with it. Fantastic program. Far more intuitive than modeling with Blender, though probably limited in some respects. But for creating creatures, faces, and humans, it's excellent.
@TorturedXeno That's not what happens, it take the asymmetric model and it's like it turns the symmetry back on before it goes to paint. If I turn symmetry off then in paint, the model stays duplicated, I just can paint it asymmetrically :(
@derechteigor actually compared to most other programs zbrush is very cheap, and no sculptris is the first quality free sculptor, they wont change that.
@Riboshom I tried every version after 2.49 hoping it would get better and better, but its still horrible. Ill admit they improved and its still a step in the right direction, but their UI is still crippling to anyone used to most standard 3d packages.
I've been just playing with it and WOW, it's so easy to use, the interface is incredibly intuitive and it took me less then 20 minutes to make a nice little monster. And so far my only experience with 3d software was raging at the interface and the learning curve.
The program is very easy to use... You can very easily import alpha brushes for texturing.. and bitmaps for painting along with the color picker and alpha textures.. I think I remember seeing the song posted on the old Sculptris forums.
@RadicalMassacre You wouldn't be the first to do things like this. It might be more difficult to build it in this instead of something like ZBrush, but it's definitely possible. I've seen it done in the sculptris forums.
This is one of the best things I've stumbled across ever! Could spend hours playing with this, Oh yeah and this is the first time I've commented on Youtube haha, not that I haven't been on here for years but this program seems worth the effort
Nice work guys, you are the best ! Iwouldnt imagine that such program exist for free, its better then Zbrush in my opinion. Love your work. I would like to be helpful as you guys, once in my life. And thank you.

Ok Its a great program. I have been following it since it was announced in the old elysium forum 4 years ago. BUT there really does need to be a printable manual for it. Just playing around with things frustrates me.
how you put this stuff in to *Secondlife from Sculptris PLEASE help cus i am going MAD i cant get it to Work !!! fucking anoying ! i tryed as a bulk and a image
@Quikie93 i just meant that eventually Pixologic will decide that there is no point in having another app around that does "essentially" the same stuff as zbrush.. and they'l do away with it, while incorporating what unique features sculptris has into zbrush.
@FacenitOfficial i'm using it on with no issues on a windows 7 machine at work and a Vista machine at home.
WTF!? Petter sold it to Pixologic!?? We FINALLY had an alternative to Zbrush and Mudbox, and then he goes ahead and kills his own child!? FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU
This is an outstanding piece of free software. The controls are intuitive and even a complete novice to 3d modelling can get great looking results in next to no time.
If you've never tried stuff like this, its an awesome place to start.
The reason pixologic wanted this is because ZBrush's primary problem was its polygon over-extension. Unlike ZBrush which required controlled voxels for expansion of a base, sculptris automatically subdivided when the number of polygons in the affected area became too low, thus never extending polygons beyond their limits creating unsightly overlaps. That being said, zbrush will likely improve the model significantly, and zspheres still have sculptris beat.
@lazathor potentially, since it exports .obj files; you'd need to use another 3D program to actually get any models into the game, however (Blender is another free modeling program that combines nicely with this, and there's a multitude of tutorials for making Oblivion/Fallout content using Blender).
why do human models always have to be perfectly shaped with all the right muscles in the right place. why can't you ever see fat ugly bastards and women with tits bouncing on the floor when they walk? that's really pathetic.
Thank you very much for sharing your talent with people. I am a highschool teacher and I think this program is superb for children who are interested in CGI, because its intuitive interface and beautiful design. And it weights less than 4 MB!!!

I downloaded it and thought it would be compatible with 3dsmax or maya, in case I wanted to export or import projects. Too bad it hasn't. Anyone feeling same?
.. ya.. now that its under pixologic.. it just means the end of sculptris.. at least as a free project.. its either gonna get abandoned completely.. or end up as some super-cut-down and pretty much useless app that will just have banners "look at all the shit you get if you buy zbrush instead" plastered all over it.. because now that he works for zbrush.. anything useful wont make it to sculptris.
Software spettacolare, rispetto a quando ho iniziato io, con il mio amiga 500 dotato di Imagine 2.0, ne è passata di acqua sotto il fiume! Complimenti ai creatori di questo software di modellazione 3d.
@gotu308 you can't use any modeling programs fore creating games, what they can do is create models that you can export for use in video game engines.
This is already awesome as it is but... it would probably be better if it was made open source. Unless you want the program to go commercial later, open source is the best way to keep a program alive cause you attract a larger community, and don't need to do everything yourself (the website stated you aren't going to develop this any further, so it would really do the world a favor :O)
The program doesn't make anything. It's a bit like working with clay, you gotta ask the artist doing it. But yeah, for some reasons almost all example models for sculpting programs are monsters or old dudes, probably cause those have a lot of details to show off what the program can do...
I think it's safe to say that as a Zbrush user, I find Sculptris to be much better in a way that it's not as complicated as Zbrush yet it's quite a powerful sculpting tool, you can just pop into the software and sculpt anything coming into your mind.
The other cool thing about this is the way the mesh feels like modeling clay being digitalised. Good work!
@darkmaggot no i actually used zbrush n mudbox. mudbox = shitbox, zbrush is powerful but not the most user friendly interface. Have you used Sculptris ?
@3DeeFanatic "They are crap" It is your opinion after all but if they where crap they would not be the industry standard programs for 3D Sculpting.
I love both, I am used to using 3Ds Max so Mudbox was really easy to get into, Zbrush being a 2.5D tool takes a little bit more to get used to but uses less resources from my PC.
It is still cool to see a free sculpting tool around.
@Tekula23 ...windows? Everyone has their own opinions as I said.
Ask any professional 3D artist and they will have different opinions of each program but they will never say "It's Crap" because they actually know how to use each and know their pros and cons.
How long dose it take to get the email to download this??
Can someone please tell me??

This is already awesome as it is but... it would probably be better if it was made open source. Unless you want the program to go commercial later, open source is the best way to keep a program alive cause you attract a larger community, and don't need to do everything yourself (the website stated you aren't going to develop this any further, so it would really do the world a favor :O)

I'm still pretty new to using Sculptris. Where did you get the brushes you used??

... Can this program make normal or good looking humanoid or girls too, or just monsters O o~!?
ASNZern 1 year ago
@ASNZern
The program doesn't make anything. It's a bit like working with clay, you gotta ask the artist doing it. But yeah, for some reasons almost all example models for sculpting programs are monsters or old dudes, probably cause those have a lot of details to show off what the program can do...

Love Mudbox and Zbrush, and this is just a pleasant surprise I never expected a free sculpting tool to be available right now.

@RealGamersTV Man, I thought a free sculpting tool was still ways off to come out. This is a pleasant surprise.

Good work!

i tried sculptris and i have to say it really makes zbrush and mudbox look like crap. \
but does anyone know how to export displacement maps and normal makes in sculptris ?
3DeeFanatic 1 year ago
@3DeeFanatic Have you used Zbrush and Mudbox at all? or are you just saying this based on the price point?
darkmaggot 1 year ago
@darkmaggot no i actually used zbrush n mudbox. mudbox = shitbox, zbrush is powerful but not the most user friendly interface. Have you used Sculptris ?
3DeeFanatic 1 year ago
@3DeeFanatic "They are crap" It is your opinion after all but if they where crap they would not be the industry standard programs for 3D Sculpting.
I love both, I am used to using 3Ds Max so Mudbox was really easy to get into, Zbrush being a 2.5D tool takes a little bit more to get used to but uses less resources from my PC.
It is still cool to see a free sculpting tool around.

@darkmaggot hey Microsoft (Windows) a industry standard and its CRAP!!! no offensive just saying
Tekula23 1 year ago
@Tekula23 ...windows? Everyone has their own opinions as I said.
Ask any professional 3D artist and they will have different opinions of each program but they will never say "It's Crap" because they actually know how to use each and know their pros and cons.
