SO many beautiful cars in this movie - that's one of the reasons I really like it. This was very enjoyable, being able to freeze-frame repeatedly just to be able to look at a particular car. And Jimmy Stewart's 1956 DeSoto is one of the finest ones.
This is my all time favorite movie too. My idea of heaven would include driving with Scottie in that car while that music is playing. Swoon...looks like you captured it perfectly, many thanks! :-)
There Will Be Blood had a VERY long opening sequence without dialogue. 2001, too. And Jaques Tati's films. But you're right, you don't see it too often these days. Audiences need constant chatter to keep them awake.
PS:the funny thing is that "Vertigo" as well as "the trouble with Harry" and "the man who knew too much(2nd version)" were re-issued in France aound 1984/85 and played nation wide in movie theatres....
funny the way some movies can be re-issued 25 years after their release and brought to a second life .The same with "gun crazy"(1950) that came out again 35 years later.....

This "chase" is the geriatric version of Bullitt.

Use software to do some pans and dissolves to enhance the trance. Delightfully superior so far to any Hremann remics on the You'... THANX!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Stewart was way too old for this slow, dated movie.
