Trust me, BMT is like this, though it is 8.5 weeks now, instead of 6.5 weeks. If you think the airforce is like this your whole carreer, it's not. Once you leave BMT and Tech School and go to your first base, shit is a breeze. Most people can breathe again and be human. Although now, the airforce is trying make airman into marines and soldiers. Airforce's purpose is aerial and cyberspace support, not to be put on the ground. How do i know this you may ask? I was in the Airforce from Nov 07-Aug10

I went to quick ship for 8 weeks in a row without a single job coming down. I stopped trying to quick ship after I got a job, 3D034 - computer systems programmer. I was qualified for every job available to a non college grad and still didn't get a job after going every tuesday for 8 weeks in a row. with the economy how it is every job is booked for months and if anyone isn't going to end up making the cut the recruiter goes ahead and gives the job to someone else in their dep.

This is true. If you can pass a DLAB or and EDPT you will have a job in a matter of weeks. That's how I got in.  However if there is a job you specifically want, don't take something else just to ship.

Good luck! I know the training changed since I first went to basic I think it's like 8 1/2 weeks or something like that. The first thing you'll learn is to hurry up and wait lol oh and btw the first week will seem like it'll never end! trust me that's the worst week.

you'll be a part of the military for a total of eight years... 4 years as active and 4 years as reserve...

Im in NC and was wondering how shipping for BMT really works. do recruits get to chose what date they want to ship? are these ship dates on a monthly timetable or in 9 week intervals? asked my recruiter but still don't really understand. best time for me is May or June and i am not locked on any particular career field.

I can't give you a solid answer on how the ship dates work nowadays, but as for the career field I would highly recommend choosing one. If you don't, they will...and it could be something pretty shitty.

I just got my ship date three weeks ago (May 5th... quick turnaround). It's based off of which job on your list opens up first, and if anyone else has that same job higher on their list. I was lucky enough to get my first choice.

You probably won't get May or June if you still haven't gone to MEPS, but there's always a possibility. Just make sure you go to MEPS with a general idea of what you want to do. It makes it a lot easier, and you'll have more time to ask questions.

It's subjective, really. If you're a big gun nut who loves to get into that kind of hardware, you would love SF! I met one cop that was going to go through sniper training for a certain contingency.

But I knew a Staff who crosstrained out of SF, admitting that there was no future in that career field.
