a requiem for mr. shepp's cousin, who died in a fight at the age of 15 in philadelphia. 'a star gleaming bright as fire in the night...' tenderness from a lion.
I'm a teenage jazz fan and a history buff, and unfortunately, I had never heard of the Attica riot and massacre until I found out about this album. They don't teach U.S. History well enough in school.
HOW CAN YOU DENY THE PURITY AND BEAUTY OF THIS BALLAD? I could tap dance to this in the rain with a red sun on the horizon.

Archie Shepp is the TRUTH! Attica Blues is a heavy album. I've had this one in my collection since I was a kid. I dig Quiet Dawn too!
