Hi Krazyskottn. I understand that you may work on guardian units, but I'm guessing you must not work in the midwest.
As you know, letting the oil drain is the biggest wait on these units, so starting the generator prior to working on them both lets you start the oil drain process, and helps keep your hands warm! The day of filming this video, it was 7 below zero.
Why would the first thing you do make what your about to work on hot. First you should check your valves because all adjustments should be made while engine is cold. plus your sticking your arm in the exhast compartment to get TDC so you dont want that hot. then change your plugs then air filter. Now you can start the generator and let it run for 5 mins and change your oil and oil filter.
What krazy said is absolutely true. Work on the cold stuff first, then heat it up and change the oil. This also gives you the opportunity to assess the performance of the engine after you adjust the valves and change the plugs. If something isn't right, you can shut it off and rework it, before it gets too hot to work on -(about 60 seconds)
never ever ever ever tighten the filter as much as you can by hand only 3/4's of a turn after it contacts the base at the most.

Great videos. Especially enjoyed seeing the valve adjustment. That always intimidated me, but I see it's really not that difficult.
Thanks for posting this excellent video!
