If you attempt to draw a charge under the basket you deserve to get dunked on. This sissified "defensive" strategy that has come about in the last 5 years is terrible. If you are under the basket either go for the block, commit a professional foul, or get out of the way. Period.

How do you know if was in a set defensive position? If you tried to take a charge under the rim against Karl Malone he would knee you in the chest, Larry Johnson would put you in the stands. the point of basketball is to knee people in the chest and jump straight into people who are standing in good defensive position (whether or not he was in this video)??? wow, apparently ive totally missed the point. attacking the RIM, i understand. being in good defensive position is also in the nature of the game. and with things like defensive 3, the "charge" arc, etc, being in good defensive position and taking contact is the BEST way to defend someone attacking the rim.

The defensive player is entitled to maintain good defensive postition anywhere on the floor, except under the DAMN RIM. College needs a semi-circle. Kids waiting under the rim to take a charge on a fast break? Instead of playing real defense, wait under the rim. Don't run the race, go straight to the finish line.

Are you crazy taking a charge is not a sissy act. You could be kicked in the balls, elbowed in the face, not get the call. Someone never played basketball I see because it takes heart to take a charge especially for smaller players
