this game, i still have the original japanese manual, which i think is worth a lot of money. when i was a kid i couldn't understand it, i reached the final queen metroid and couldn't kill her. i felt so frustrated that i traded tihs game for... mortal kombat 2 -.-
And it scared me to the bones! ... i think im gonna download it for the virtual 3ds console rite now <3
one of derek's best reviews, and one wich i agree with him %100.metroid 2 retrurn of samus is better then the first metroid and the remake zero mission imo.
I wonder why the guys from CGR don't record the GameBoy games in color, I know I had the GameBoy player and even on the GameBoy Color/Advance when I inserted my GameBoy games, they had colors, I could choose at the beginning of the game which colors should I use by Pressing Right/Left on the D Pad but I surely remember Samus' Varia suit as being Red and Yellow in Metroid II !
@GamingWombat that has nothing to do with what he was saying, he means the feel of suepr mario land is different, obviously the sprite is different one's nes and the other's gb
NOSTALGIA!! i loved that game, but i just wished it had a map, because navigation can get VERY confusing especially when you beat it in a weekend binge, you forget what you did 2 hours ago, and you ascend into earlier areas and say "WHERE THE F*** AM I??"
First Metroid game I ever played and I hadn't even heard of the first one. Several years later when I had forgotten about Metroid II I played Super Metroid via emulator and thought "this game reminds me of a Gameboy game I used to have".
I saw a bunch of copies brand new for $9.99 years ago. I regretted not buying it, spent $8 on a cart only cart years later, noticed someone beat the game, checked it out and it seemed like a cool game. But then I started from scratch and couldn't get anywhere in the game just like Metroid 1. Metroid GBA is the best. Without healing stations and save stations, I cannot beat a classic style Metroid game.
So many butthurt nintendo fanboys are crying since his marioland review. Can't you girls just respect his opinion? I mean his points were valid, and to dislike other videos and hate him because of his own opinion is stupid, stop embarrassing yourselves and nintendo's fanbase. I'm a big nintendo fan but I'm not gonna hate because someone had a different opinion, just respect it, even if you think they're wrong and you're right.
@Brooklyni could'nt have said any better myslef i didnt likethe SML ethier but Derek still is a cool guy. if everyone had the same opinons this would be a pretty bland world.
You guys need to give Derek a break and let the SML review be. You watch these videos for a review of the game and basically HIS opinion on said game. When he says something different then you, you bitch. SML isn't the best mario game, not nearly, and it's not the worst. But, he gave his opinions on it and you watched it. Just quite the bitching and enjoy this review of a stellar game. Grow up.
@thebaggedavenger Uh first of all, he spent the entire video complaining about it. Second of all, CGR never gives us actual reviwews. Just this game is cool or not and buy it or not. No real discussions or comparison to other games or ratings of any kind. So I shouldn't heard nothing but complaining unless I heard "This game earns a 1"
This game is in the aftermath of the Metroid Prime series? That's really forward thinking of them to make a game that the story was after a game they wouldn't make for another 11 years. Did George Lucas have anything to do with these games?
@rogums My comment was a joke in the sense that George Lucas claimed that the 'prequel' were written out from the beginning. This review claims that this story was after the games that came after it. Maybe when you get a brain you'll understand the joke.
@Kramer7969 Its funny cause Star wars had prequels and so does this. hahaha damn, heres one for you, you know how mario has a sequel and so does kill bill? Did tarantino have something to do with those games. hahahah, im so funny man.
@rogums You don't even get it. This review seems to imply that they made the game knowing it was before the aftermath of the game from 11 years later. Sheesh. I'm not saying that a prequel is anything odd and you may or may not understand, but if you don't why do you have to flame me?
@rogums Maybe I inferred wrong... but @ 2:02 it says 'picks up in the immediate aftermath of the metroid prime trilogy' that is what it means to me... as a JOKE. See, it's funny, huh? :)
@GamingWombat Yes and the game play was radically changed. This is a very linear game with a few slight branching paths but completely lacks the feeling of exploration the original had. It gets boring after awhile because there is no big feature to pull you in. You're just going around shooting a handful of metroids now and then. When you get to the ship at the end it gets fun again but for the most part you'll have to force yourself on some level to keep going through all the identical layouts.
I really wanted a remake of this to come to the DS during its heyday. As incredible as the original Metroid 2 Return of Samus is, it hasn't exactly aged well for this generation.
@FastTquick I want this title to be revived under the 3D classics. This way, all of the errors of this under appreciated can be fixed, and it wouldn't be too hard since they started making a DX version of this game that was never released.
Nearly 40 Metroids? There's more than that, but not a surprising statement from someone going in thr wrong direction for most of the video. Still, pretty good review, this game is an all time favorite.
@Luigi84289 I was counting the 8 at the end. There are 39 when you start the game, but once you enter the final levels and discover the Queen laid eggs, the counter goes back up from 1 to 9, and that's not counting the Baby. So 48 in total.
@BrooklynBros Yeah, but he seems to be praising this game because it's different, when he got all upset over Super Mario Land because it was different, even if it wasn't. Besides, everyone will be over it in a few videos.
I'm hating on Game boy!!
