Every time I watch the BBC news on T.V. I feel as though my eyes kiss the Eyes of the charming well informed news presenters .The only trouble is who informs them.I think the answer must be written in the SKy.
A very nice job. The critics should just keep it to themselves!!
Besides, Joan Baez does the best job on this song, in a recording removed from YouTube. Also, Nana Mouscouri and Joan Baez do this song in an impromptu duet. Ms Baez respectfully stops singing as we hear Nana go into the operetic part........she then rejoins Nana for some awesome, simple harmony. Superb Video.!!!!!!
Catherine MacKinnon doesn't have the same feeling and emotion for this lovely song as does Nana Mouskori. As for translating it into English...well even though I don't speak French, it is far better sung in that language.
you have no knowledge of how beautiful this singer is. as someone who saw her in person, perhaps you should rethink your comments. are you a music major or teacher? if not, then perhaps you should just keep your comments to yourself.
Absolutely beautiful. Catherine and her husband came to our house in Pangnirtung and had a short visit with my parents many years ago. Mom was a huge fan of hers.
@H3ndr1ka Hi - Did you go to Mt St Vincent? That's the only school I have photos from for my mom (Patrician Anne). It's so nice to see feedback like yours. I also wish my mom had lived long enough to see her music (even just duets with Catherine) posted on YouTube for the world to hear. Maybe I should explore more, because someone may have posted her solo material too, by now!
You don't happen to have a copy of "Blue Lipstick", do you? :-)
@literalgirl Hi, I did go to the Mount! So long ago, and music was so important to us. Catherine and Patrician Anne were our stars! My Mom still has them on vinyl, I will ask about "blue Lipstick".
@H3ndr1ka Thanks!!! I think it was Mom's first solo song, and there used to be a 45 of it lying around my Nana's house (over by the Public Archive!), but it's long gone now.
Beautifully sung - I love this version, she has such a wonderfully rich voice.
If you'd like to hear another lovely version of this song, have a listen to Nana Mouskouri singing it. She includes the 'operatic' part which Catherine leaves out.
I've known this song since the 1960's but never found a truly great rendidtion -- until now. I've never heard of this woman until today, what a pity!!
very heartfelt rendering here...great song, lots of different interpretations, with many different sets of lyrics... look for an early joan baez version, also excellent
A beautiful , Canadian voice , in those days , she was brave to take this one on , back then !!! She was & still is a Lady !!! Married to another great Canadian Icon !!! All the best to them ..
could you clarify...phrasing, pitch, intonation, diction, tempo, style...what exactly is awful? many like her presentation...can you provide some enlightenment.
@omega125th You misunderstand. When they said "Awful. A massacre." they were describing what happened after I went to this guy's house with a chainsaw and went nuts because anybody who says this absolutely tear-inducing, masterful rendition of the "Plaisir d'Amour" is anything less than heavenly deserves to get ripped up with a chainsaw.
My mothers cousin, the voice of an angel for sure!!!

Why does a pointless creature like you bother to keep breathing. Oxygen is finite, so you should stop and preserve it for real people.

I went to school with Catherine and her sister - we grew up listening to her records. Good to hear her again!
