  • If the forest is dense or the terrain is unvaried finding a landmark can be difficult, true? If so wouldn't a gps be necessary in those conditions?

  • @888zzz

GPS just ,makes positioning easyer . a topo map with a compas can be pretty precices if you can walk in a strait line also you could use a sextant ( noting perverted here just a maping tool)

  • I wasted time on this, no new skills learned. Heck you did not even point out how to orientate the map for the newbies. Please put some more thought into it. I did enjoy the humor of your son not wanting to go into the brush.

On a positive note Suunto makes good dependable stuff, even on their low end products.

  • what is there to control?

  • Thanks for the video Kev. What's up with the server, can hit the boards...

  • @lllewe2009 - check our page on facebook, all of the details have been posted there.

  • @survivalistboards Kev, looking for info on this. Do you have a link or a name of your facebook page?

  • @lllewe2009 I tried to find Survivalist Boards on facebook with no luck. Can you help me with the name of the facebook page please? Not sure whats going on.

    Thanks.

  • @lllewe2009 Never mind, I got it. Sorry for the trouble my friend.

  • Suunto is the way to go ;)

  • yall got a nice piece of land. How many acres?

  • You really should have a survival show on tv out by now!

  • @jpcox23 youtube is better. less commercials and he isnt being told what to say

  • are you goint to post another squirrel hunting video this year?

  • @gimmedanger888 He needs to with that cool sling shot I sent him! Hint Hint!

  • @ReadyPRO1 haha guilt trip much?

  • I used to use a Suunto inclinometer when I installed DirecTV. good quality products.

  • @sgtpepper1138 Yes, I did that too for a while for DirecTV. That's why I carry them. Very reliable.

  • Why didn't you explain why you orient the map north? Why didn't you explain how you got your direction of travel in degrees? I think a button compass would work for what you are doing in this video.

  • cant wait for deer season i ended up buying a crossbow this season so i could get in there early

  • Nice.

  • Good stuff! I've been using my new military compass to help find geocaches (noting key landmarks, bearings, and keeping track of paces), keeping my gps as a back up safety. It's really rewarding to have a skills that doesn't involve electronics.

  • Kevin,

I am concerned you said it was 95 degrees you are not carrying any water or other equipment. If somebody twists an ankle or slips and falls I guess you could apply your topo map as a field expedient dressing.

Maybe you at least had a pocket knife so you could cut up the map for bandages.

  • lol the cameraman says "im not walking through that"

  • I like when you say "heel", instead of "hill".

  • @offgridjoe A-tenn cumpass !!! title is spelled wrong?

  • always enjoy your videos, when converting magnetic to grid north or vice versa you need to add in your declination or you will be off, esp. on longer treks

  • @gaforrest I was going to say that...lol
