  • very good

  • *applaud!* wonderful! but i suggest on working out the fuzzy notes and making your sound clearer...thats about it! so far this is the best sound i've found that is not played by professionals!~~~ keep going at it!

  • Very nice!

    --; Haelin:):)

  • soooooo amazing. i lay the flute and this is my second year playing. i conduct musicfor fluteiests. i hope to be in the symphony one day.

  • Good confidence!

  • wow! That was really nice! You generally have a nice tone, but the low notes sounds really shaky and airy sometimes. Try firming up your lips and opening your throat. That might help. But the technique was almost perfect despite your nerves.

  • oh my, very lovely ^^

  • Are you playing this at the proper speed?

  • This was a year and a half ago.. but the "proper" speed is the speed you can play it well! No one cares how sloppy you can play fast.

If I remember right this performance ended up being just a tad under what I wanted to play it at. My goal for this was quarter note=116 i believe.

  • You have great tone and play this song really well! This song is the District tryout piece. I can't play some of it well, but I try. Thank you so much for posting.

  • I think you have a clear tone... I think is more technical stuff as to the fingerings and everything. Make sure you practice really slow, and try some relaxation exercises for nervousness. I would recommend you went on Jennifer Cluff's wesite! She's really good! I'm actually a flute performance major, and my teacher always reminds us to lower our stands to the point were your shin is visible to the audience... I am not sure if it has something to do with how the camera was put.

  • wow great sound

  • All the problem here are from nerves. You have a great tone. You have the fingerings down cold. Let loose and just have fun with it. Easier said than done I know. I was a horn major and a flute minor back many years ago. Only way I could get through a performace was to close my eyes and forget I was playing for anyone but myself. Try playing this concerto like it was pop music. Let loose and just have fun.

  • Thanks! I worked REALLY hard on this last year.. and I was really nervous! lol. Thanks for the tip!

  • Have you ever considered playing with your stand a little bit lower? The only reason I notice is because my flute teacher started getting on my case about it -- but he has a point, if you watch the pros, they always have their stand a little lower so that you can see their face when they are performing if they don't have the piece memorized.

Also, don't forget to acknowledge your accompianist when you take your bow!

  • you play so well!

I'm trying to learn this, but I'm awful.

I play a million times slower and I keep stopping x___x

I'm not giving up though! I want to play this at my school talent show, and also I'm working towards college auditions ^-^

hey, I can dream, right? xDD

  • Ya definitely!! Just keep working really hard and set goals for yourself. If you really want something and are willing to work hard enough, its definitely possible to reach!

I've just been taking private lessons for a year and a half (playing for about 6.5 years) and I've always been good, but not ever REALLY good. This year I put everything I had into making All-State.. and that hard work paid off! I'm planning on making it next year too!

Anyway, just work really hard and you can do it!

  • I was going to add more but didn't have room!

I'd go through the song (or like. a page at a time) and bracket the hardest runs. Then play them PAINFULLY slow (Play it WITH A METRONOME at a speed where you are not stopping even its at like.. 50) and just bump of the metronome one or two clicks at a time. Some of the stuff, like at 3:20-3:40 I worked SO much on, and it still wasn't perfect!

  • very very good!

  • Very well done!

  • i have to play this for distric try outs. im very nervious. i can get it but their are parts i get stuck. the try outs are in decemeber

  • Just practice a TON. I am in the process of preparing for All-State right now. Our auditions are in october.

Don't play the parts you don't need to work on, but the harder parts just keep repeating them on a speed you can go (with a metronome!) and then put it up one click and repeat a few times and up it again etc etc.

    Good luck!

  • Amazing! You seem a little nervous(who wouldn't be? o.o), or out of breath at some parts. I've been trying to learn this song all morning~XD I play it like...10000000 times slower.

  • lol yes I was nervous!! I took it just a little under my goal speed this performance (on accident. I wanted it at 115) but oh well.

It definitely takes LOTS of practice :) I had this song for about 9 months total. In some parts it took the full 9 months to get it at tempo.. like especially at 3:20 for me! That was probably the hardest spot for me.

My other video of this is much MUCH better :)

  • I think you may need to work on articulation a little bit more; Aligning your finger movements with the speed of your tongue. Try using tuh or duh instead of tut for tonguing and always remember....breath support!

Watch some of Nina Perloves videos: shes got great tips on articulation.

  • You really are terrific. How old are you? Don't let anyone's comments get to you...BRAVO!!!

  • I'm 17, going to be a junior this fall. I played this as a sophomore with 9 months of private lessons (started in July 07)

  • Very impressive! Your tone is gorgeous too--Mozart is much harder than it's "graded" level. If you plan to be a music major this is one of the required audition selections for MOST places. Start working on the repertoire you'll need for that as flute is a pre-audition at the beginning of senior year to be invited for a live audition. Hope to see more videos. Best of luck :)

  • Ya thanks! I am actually planning on majoring in music therapy! I am just starting to work on the Chaminade Concertino for my next solo for next year, and to use for my all-state audition solo piece this fall!

  • oops i deleted the comment on accident! From onln4jesus:

That's AWESOME! Concertino is a good one to know for college audition but is overdone for solo competition. You may want to think about a dif. selection. Of the 37 flutes at state, 9 did Concertino this year. How about Poem, Hue Fantasy, or Carmen Fantasy?

  • I dunno, it doesn't really matter what song you do for solo/ensemble.. like at all. Plus I LOVE this song and I'm mainly doing it to prepare it for college auditions and I can't get two ready for this year, lol. I'll be working on this song all the way until April!

I'd love to do the Carmen Fantasy though!

  • its very good..

    VERY GOOD!

you stay on beat very well, but i think you need to work on tone alot more.

    other than that its GREAT

  • I plan on playing this for the upcoming Solo and Ensemble contest next year. :] My mother played it in 9th grade, memorized, and got a 2.

The only critique I can offer is that your tonguing is a little bit harsh at times, and you could improve your sound quality on your lower notes. Also, there's slight blips, but those can be cured with practice, of course.

    Otherwise, Great job! :]

  • Excellent job!! I really liked the cadenza, it sounded great and the trills were fantastic. The only thing I can say is be careful with articulation. When you have those odd double slur figures it sounded slightly mushy, for lack of a better word. Also, in various parts where you had stacco (double tongued?) sixteenth notes, it also sounded slightly mushy, just be careful, but it's understandable because the piece is written at an allegro tempo. Overall, excellent work!

  • Thanks! Make sure you listen to the other video me playing this (taken a week later) as I think it was MUCH improved, although its a bit shorter.
