if this was actual a real story and I was Pamina, I wouldnt be able to sing because the fact would be I would be feeling my heart shatter into a million pieces.

if i were tamino, i woul try to explain it to her without words, like pantomime;)
Beautiful! I could not get enough listening to this wonderful aria in various interpretations. My favorite is Lucia Popp , posted by leoperarm. Also for fun check the two impossible G♯ above high C in Popoli di Tessaglia!, K.316, for soprano, sang by Edda Moser. The notes are at 6.36 and 6.47.
I disagree. I think she attacked the C just perfectly and her glissando was just fine. I really don't think it was any stronger than others attack it.
Is there anyway by chance that you can upload the part where Pamina is about to do Suicide but the Three Boys stop her? I've been trying to find that part for awhile but all I found was the one by Kathleen Battle.
Wonderfully performed, truly. Ended beautifully, and the orchestration choices by the conductor are truly beautiful. One beef- I hate when sopranos (being one) do the "now I'm going to sing" face, and just stop acting.
But, she has a wonderful voice, and it's wonderfully acted when she gets into it.
Genia is one of the last sopranos, who sings Mozart with a perfect belcanto-technique and with soul!!! She is wonderful and for me the best Pamina, who makes me cry.
Genia is wonderful! She is one of the last Sopranos, who are able to sing a perfect belcanto-piano. No wonder, that Riccardo Muti said about her, she had an "italian" voice. And I heard, that the famous Director Ioan Hollender of the Vienna State Opera said about her, that she is the world best Pamina.
I'm not an expert, but I've heard Kathleen Battle's version and it's amazing... but there's something about this one that I like more... I think her voice is flawless and has something I just can't describe..
Thats because she just has a very quiet voice. My teacher said she saw her(Kathleen Battle) do a recital and she was sitting in the 4th or 5th row from the stage and could barely hear her. She just has a tiny voice. I'm not saying she is a bad singer at all, so dont get me wrong. She is wonderful
i was replying to someone else's comment about Kathleen Battle singing this aria. But for whatever reason my comment didn't attach itself to theirs :P
I heard Battle in a 3,000 seat auditorium during her "I'm not so bad" tour after the Met dust-up. I was in the middle of the house and she sounded fine.
I went to Salzburg last summer mainly to hear Pape and Damrau but I was amazed by Genia Kühmeier. There are a lot of Paminas who are better in the beginning as an innocent victim or at the end as a brave woman. Genia is perfect all the time with a pure and rich voice.

So far, THE Pamina of the 21st century, and perhaps the only genuine angelic-lyric voice currently out there. And she's fun to watch, also!
