  • A lot of the time you don't even need a shoot-through type material on any softbox or reflector utilizing a cfl.

    For my BFA from an art school last year I used 2 40 watt cfl's, one on each side of a person, in metal reflectors (similar to strobe head reflectors) for portraits. Since the CFL light source itself is fairly big you don't need to disperse the light more. If you have enough power from the CFL and use it up close you can get away without using strobes for some things. Cheap but good!
