Not too many people remember this, but there was quite a scandal when this Christmas special first aired. Mainly because it revealed alot of the ugliness that the Claus organization tried to keep secret for many years.

For instance,

not only did Santa harbor feelings of bigotry towards those with genetic deformities such as reindeers with red noses (remember what he said to Donner),

but also,

how a few of the higher ups in the elf department, such as Hermie's boss, were scathing anti-dentites.
