@WolfTheMadMan This will NOT work and end up being a speak. The Dart, must be make of softer/ flexible material in order to oscillate/flex and store energy.
Bamboo works very well. It's actually stronger and heavier than this cane I'm using (Arundo donax). This cane is a bit weak. It works great for darts, but if you step on one, it will break. Bamboo is tougher!
i like the idea around 5:00 that you do with the loop and how you pull it underneath everything thats such a useful idea! is there a specific name for that tie/knot?
I think that's called a "whip-wrap." But I'm not really sure. THat's what I call it anyway! It is pretty slick. It's a great way to wrap all sorts of things. Thanks for watching. Tom
A friend of mine bought that for me while up in Vancouver. I've since made a couple of them using some recycled steel (old files). Mine didn't come out so nice, but they work almost as well.
The cane I'm using (Arundo donax)may be different from the cane you have. This stuff starts to dry out and cure while still alive. I select it when it is alive and standing, but with a tan color. Cutting this stuff while green doesn't usually work very well. So I guess the short answer is to wait until the cane turns a uniform light green or tan color before trying to straighten. Green stuff will usually break when heat straightening. Hope this helps!
Thanks bro. There's a lot better shots than me though! Most of the throws you see in the videos are pretty close range - so it looks like better shooting than it really is!

Personally i would recomend a heavy hardwood for a dart rather than bamboo but either works well.

What is the brand of your carving tools?
runescapegamea 3 years ago
That set of carving tools are some old Miller's Falls carving tools. Made in NY I think. I got them at a fleamarket for 20 bucks. A great deal!

How dry does the cane have to be before it can be worked. I am starting with growing cane that I have a unlimited supply of. Very helpful videos....
