I freaking love you willie, there ain't better music than yours, I will always live regretting the fact that I have never seen you in a concert, hope some day our paths cross... best of lucks for you
Cocaine is a power drug-Rick james. And Quaalude's too, but these guys are professionals. I was 4 when this was going on. I'd give an arm to be there for a wknd, not a care in the world. No terrorism, no war, just willie and some love
The scary part of this video is I can remember when Willie LOOKED like he does in this video. Yeah Willie, time really does slip away. He's had that old Martin guitar since Christ was an ordinary seaman.
I was there! Even tho I was only 3, I swear I remember...especially all the naked hippies walking around. LOL! I've idolized this man all my life. I'm now a singer in a rock band and still give Willie all the credit when people tell me how much soul I have. My parents gave me the tools by letting me listen to Willie, Emmy Lou, Ray Charles, Jerry Jeff, Jimmy Buffet and Lynyrd Skynyrd! Then my brother introduced me to Kiss, Van Halen, Styx, Queen, Ted Nugent and Heart!!! Music is my life!!
Is this performance available anywhere? I'd love to get a copy of just this alone! Three of my favorites from Willie, especially "Funny How Time Slips Away".
@sjoara YEAH....I love it.. Leon is cool and sexy even he´s a little drunk..:-DD Love him!! You know what.. I ´m just 25. and jealous of verybody who can see him in these times live----:-DD I wanna have a "time machine"
I won't be the first to tell you that besides Willie having a great voice, he had one of the world's best backups too. His sister Bobby was darn good on the piano and he had Larry Gatlin backing him up on a couple albums as vocal, Jimmy day on steel and of course the legend Johnny Gimble. Too bad most of those were not on the stage here, but it's still WONDERFUL!
its not really funny how time has slipped away and there aint no more good music and good times like this being played anymore. At least we have You Tube and some good folks like you to post these fine performances.
leon is the master of space and time. Great to see this after reading all about it in his biography shit Im only up to the IRS problems, its good to be able to read something and read how he grew then watch these videos and see him progress. THEYRE GREAT! 30 something years later- thats amazing, hes a genious
I tell you what. This has got to be the best.I watch this damn thang almost every day.I think Leon makes these videos of this picnic.Willie was the shit back then and he will always be the shit.
Man, I hate to see a wasted Leon Russell. He's such a fantastic musician, and I've long admired his work. Excellent video, by the way. Its nice to see and hear Bobbie on the keys too!
i wonder if leon russell woke up the next day and said "Oh My God, what did i do". i love that willie would just let a completely wasted leon stagger on to the stage in front of 30.000 people. it feels like a backyard keg party, which is what any great Country show ought to be.
You are absolutely right. You get your moneys worth every day and three times on Sunday when you see Willie in concert. I just love these classic performances.
I disagree, This was Willie in his prime. Sure everybody is drunk (including the crowd) The smell of weed everywhere! 1 big party for Texas rednecks, kinda like Woodstock, but for rednecks.

This is great. My son is in a rock n roll band, and he stresses out about lil stuff, so I had him watch this. I mean, Willie was always cool.

I think Johnny Cash was the best singer of all time, and had the best backing band.
