  • You are covering the 11th most amazing drummer in the world according to Rolling Stone magazine.... personally he is my favorite in the world anyway....GREAT JOB! <3

  • You are one of my favorite drummer on Youtube.

  • @menswear2112 I am humbled! Thank you!

  • verry niceeeeeeeeeee

  • WHEN ROBOT PIGS FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Er, which bit are you referring to?

  • hey can you play "Next to you - The police"??... i want to learn it

  • Not one I have ever really studied much - it's quite tough, that's for sure.

Anyways - I'm sure you could learn it yourself without having to watch me playing it?!! That's cheating that is!!!!

People keep asking me to do 'No Time This Time', which I am fairly sure I CANNOT do, so I might try Next To You instead, which is a little easier :-)

  • better plat the live version, it is more cool but uours is cool too

    Cheers

  • Kick ass playing!!!! Stew Copeland is a god!!!!

  • Hey, cheers!

And yes, Mr. Copeland is a God!

  • Best Police song, hands down!!! Great choice!

  • Great playing!

  • i like your garden behind you.

  • Damn it all LOL! I killed myself trying to play this, and you comment on my garden :-)

    Anyway, thank you very much!!

  • you remind me of Mister Bean, lol. good drumming btw. I can never get this song right.

  • what type of kit is it?

  • It's a 1986 Pearl Export 5 pc, which I got when I was a student, with money I did not have! I added the 8 and 10" toms a few years ago, and changed the snare to a Chad Smith Signature. Lots of zildjians and some dw pedals and hi-hat.

    :-)

  • That was amazing!

  • I like this tempo from the original recording. When I saw The Police in concert, they seemed to have slowed this song down a little bit.

  • what sticks are u using

  • Flix Sticks. They are made in Scotland. Get them off an Ebay shop is the easiest thing.

  • peart uses the same tubulars in closer to the heart?but he had much more time and yes i think stu hit them on that extra 8th you improvise, when i thought it was a hi hat synth attatchment you were using (is there such a thing?),there is time to hit those bells ,isnt there?ding/2.3.4/dong2.3.4,you do hear the different notes...you are a drummers teacher.thx

  • Yes, I think you are right about Mr Peart. He uses them beautifully on sevral songs.

I suspect Stewart dubbed 'em on top, but that is not to say he could not have played it in the way you suggest - lets face it, the guy was more than capable of playing the bells at the same time!

If I had some bells, it certianly would be fun to try and play it as you suggest - I think it would be possible.

Don't know much about synth attachments (actually, I know nothing about 'em!)

    Cheers!

  • outstanding man!!!!i was wondering ,are the dong sounds tubular bells?,i played them in high school,in turn learned glockinspiel.i hear you create the sound ,is that a synth on your hat?what did stuart use? thx

  • Hello, and thank you!

I guess they are tubular bells on the original, but I don't actually know. Perhaps someone else can answer for me? I love the sound they make - they really work brilliantly on this song!

I have not actually re-created the sound at all - my hi hat is 'normal' and accoustic. I guess you can still hear Copeland's bells over my recording, is all! All I do is splash my slightly open hats in quarter notes and with some extra eighths thrown in for good measure!

    :-)

  • hello there...I've been watching all your police covers and I really like all of them especially truth hurts everybody and one world.I can see how very particular and a perfectionist you are on playing your covers.I just have a couple of requests. Can you cover Driven to Tears or Spirits in a Material World. They're two of my favorite all time Police songs and I'm also trying to play them on bass guitar and I would love to see what you can do with those songs. Cheers mate!

  • Hi, and thank you very much!

If you look at my channel page, you will see that I have listed all future covers that I intend to post - and you will be especially pleased to see that Driven To Tears is on the list! You are not the first person to ask for it!

Spirits is not one I had thought to do, but I could certainly have a look at it.

    Cheers!

  • i waiting for ¨voices inside my head

  • Ooooofffff! Yeah, I am thinking about doing it, but it is really, really tough to get the groove, and I am not at all sure that I can do it well enough to post on here! I got a kicking from my attempt at Reggatta De Blanc, so I dread to think what will hapeen if I ever get around to posting Voices!

    :-)

  • good stuff man! can you do next to you?

  • Cheers!

Hmmmmmmm. Maybe! But that is pretty fast too! I found this Truth Hits cover very hard - it is not really my style of drumming, so I was outside my comfort zone already (which is a godd thing to do!).

    I will think about it!

  • there's not many drummers in existence who can player No Time this Time properly - i'm not even sure Copeland himself could do it now.

  • does it make it easier to play when it is a song or band you really like?

  • Definately! If you love the song, then you can almost picture how it goes, making it easier to try and copy. I would struggle with all these covers, especially the long and complex Genesis ones, if I did not actually like the music!

  • very nice play

I'm waiting of " no time this time"

  • No way! I can't do 'No Time This Time'!!! Its WAY fast!!!! And the end - it just makes me orgasm every time I hear it! Copeland plays it so crisply, so controlled, so tight and so fluidly, it is just an awesome piece of drumming.

I would not dare to try and cover it!

    :-)

  • Your sticks are awesome :D

  • You play in a blues band? yeah thats way more mellow than this. you covered this very well though. Rock bands are always looking for drummers, i bet haha. I'm trying to assemble a rock band over here in California. Everyone wants to be a guitarist here since that damn video game came out, so i'll be hard pressed to find a drummer and a bassist myself lol

  • sweet kit man, and nice playing. are you or have you considered being in a band? i'm in one, but we just started about a month ago.

  • Thank you and thank you.

I am in a band, yes. It's a Blues band, which means I play slightly more subtle stuff then I post here on YouTube!

Best of luck with your band!

  • thanks. we might have practice this week. i play lead guitar, but i can also play bass, drums, and many other instruments.

  • Esta muito bom!!!

  • Portugese for 'this very good!'

    Thank you!

  • Gostei muito!!!!

Toca perfeito,se calhar toca melhor que profissionais.I´m portuguse.Traduction(I enjoyed very!!playing maybe btter than profissonals!!Where do you live?

  • I play the guitar.

  • Thank you, again!

You are very kind, but I am not that good! For me, it is just a hobby! I live in the middle of England, a long way from Portugal!

  • Givme the your email please.

  • Hello - sorry, I forgot to reply to this. You can send me messages via YouTube 'send message to jouxplan' and we can chat like that, if you like.

I don't like to give out my personal email on here - no offense!

    :-)

  • You've got a nice garden mate :D, about as nice to see as you to listen to =)

    Heil from France

  • That's very kind of you, thanks!

I have just moved house, so garden will change, but view from drums will still be good and green!

  • ok my bad...i just requested you play this song (from your "every little thing she does" page) and here it was already posted.

    thanks. joux da man!

  • sorted!!!!

  • i like you, joux man! you seem like my kind of people.

  • 'joux da man!' - that's really very funny!

You seem like my kind of people too :-)

  • you did a great job!

  • to volendos2:

I consider Stewart Copeland a better drummer than Phil Collins - and I like them both..

Yet another good performance! Like the fact that you use (like Stewart Copeland) the Splash.. I personally think that he took the use of Splashes etc. to a whole new level..

Like this song a lot -- wouldn't happen to know where I could find the drum part?

  • Thank you!

I agree with you re Stewart and his use of splashes.

Drum part - sorry no. I learned it by ear. Maybe someone else knows?

  • The drums for this song is very intense...good job with it and keep playing!

  • good imitation!! great job

  • How about doing "Driven' to Tears" by the Police?

  • Hello. Yeah, I could do it at some point if you like - I have not really studied this one before! It's got a great drum part, certainly! Let me get through the rest of my list first.

    Hope you enjoyed Truth Hits?

  • Im not really a fan of the police you know im a genesis fan but that was still some great drumming.
