2 Good tips in this video, the concept of his focus being on the knife and or your face, leave the arms down until you are ready to strike and always expect some cuts, you will get cut, but getting some slight wounds vs. dying or hospitilization, your choice I guess lol. However they seems to miss a key point, your focus should be on obtaining the weapon, no matter what it is, because the SECOND you loss focus of the weapon, striking him, you could be dead. Get the weapon first.

In reference to the second part, even if he didn't have his hand on your shoulder, why would you cross over the arms? He's turning to half facing which makes his strikes with the back arm very awkward.

Personally, I'll block and grab the knife like the instructors shows, but definitely I'll disarm an assailant first by hitting his elbow joint with a punch first! Youtubers, try it! Punch your arm in the exposed area between your elbow and see how fast that causes your muscle tendons to loose grip because of the contraction it causes. Way better and faster and safer in disarming a knifing person than trying to hit their body or face, because people can take hits to the face and body easily.

The issue with bicep/tricep/joint punching with this scenario is it CAN still get caught in the knife wielders line of sight, because it involves movement and reaching to a target that is in his line of sight. You don't want them to dig that knife into a carotid by making him flinch.

They do hurt like a bitch, but even damaging the arm like that could force the arm to bare down on your neck accidentally. Though a gun would work too...

I dont think thats a good technic because you doesnt get a good hold of the arm that holds the knife, he will easily get his wrist out of your hold, while he can still defend himself from blows with his other hands. The attacker will move back, getting his wrist free and stab you from there.
