i don't get the bad reviews this song is getting....i know this isn't their best song but indian ocean is still the best band around, by a distance......what people forget is that the format of the show requires a composition to be created in less than 2 days and indian ocean ocean take their time to make music (they have made only 6 albums in almost 20 years....unlike a sehwag, dravid takes lot more deliveries to score a century but that doesn't make him a lesser player, does it?
this episode is not up to the mark.. till now u had a mix of different kinds of ppl frm diff backgrounds. this song is totally lik an Indian Ocean song n mohit chauhan's contribution was hardly seen/there.
What program was use to edit the beginning? I love how all the photos move as if they were sliding to right and zooming in and out within their on frame while rotating.
Although Indian Ocean fully Dominated Mohit's talent but still it seems that Rahul was be too happy, after getting his BASE piece [which was actually soul of the track] in a nice Song... :)
The Cameraman is fabulous, frame by frame it seems like ur visiting a photography exhibition. he made the show very artistic. n Monica Dogra in side angle shots looked sizzling hot.
First, from the the greatest and mightiest nation on the planet we say, FU? FU? wow you know how to cut deep over there in curry-ville. Second, I don't see millions of people busting their humps trying to get into India for a better life, no, America is still the land where EVERYONE want's to end up so they can live free and enjoy a better life! I mean, your people are starving while you have tons of beef just walking around, but you are so backward that you would rather worship a steak than fe
Why, Oh, Why is India always trotted out as the be all and end all of spiritual enlightenment when the place is an armpit!!! They still have the PLAGUE!!! Most of the population is starving, the child sex trade is strong, see: "Born Into Brothels" corruption is the norm and poverty is a national passtime! I'll stick with the good, ole USofA!
@chimptor50 Personally, I find most of the spiritual enlightenment thing a load of bullshit too... but, I suppose it's mostly because of the vast contrasts between places we have here, and the large number of temples and monasteries and jungles and the immense mythology around here that gives it the messed up spiritual reputation....
.
I personally just think it's a nice little developing country with a very irritating commercial art scene
this is the best thing that has happened to the indian music.......listen to the mtv coke studio after the pakistani one had been a let down, bt after 3 episodes of dewarists i feel not all is lost for the non bollywood music of india
didnt think much of Mohits performance ... i thought it would have had a bit more folksy ... but sounded like bollywood playback singing ... still a superb episode!
Kya Khaayal Hai and Maaya were written by Swanand Kirkire. While KKH was a incredibly pleasing melody with a ghazal like metre, I felt that Maaya was meant to be a euphoric bhajan.. How, these guys could come up with such a complex tune with so many voices 4 + 6 overlays and instruments (harmonica, clarinet, bansuri, bass guitar, lead guitar, drums, tabla) in 2 days is just beyond me. Great work. And hats off to the crew. The direction, cinematography and editing is world class.
loved it....can't believe u guys judging this soulful music,....don't u see that they get 3-4 days of time to come up with a composition as good as that....not an easy task for any artist....i wonder how many of you commenting here even knows an iota about music...and can create anything as good as that in that time span...!! So fuckoff and just enjoy what these guys created !! :\m/
This could really have been better.... (Time constraints suck) if given time, Indian ocean can make really great music... and Mohit? did he even put in any ideas? and he sang so little!
this was good ..each part maybe wasn't the best in class.but the sum of it all really was full of passion and fun..yet again :-)
Indian Ocean is definitely this symbol of irreverence .just because their music is so different from mainstream music. Its like they are all still kids at heart .They are only doing just because they want to jam and be together doing it
wow! that was pathetic! comparing it to Minds without fear and Kya Khayal hai.. Indian Ocean and Mohit Chauhan are big names they could have done better, especially Indian Ocean. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of both Indian Ocean and Mohit Chauhan, but somehow this didn't click.
@sharjeelhkhan To each his own; I guess this was the best so far :) I think Dewarists has gone from strength to strength; this being a far richer and elevating composition than Minds without fear. Kya khayal hai was good as well, but this one is too good. Vintage Indian Ocean, elating and exhilarating.
@sharjeelhkhan Don't think we should look at the songs individually... As the show says "Part music documentary and part travelogue"... it's the whole experience... To come up with a song as good as some of their other hits needs inspiration and it's not fair to expect the inspiration to come in the 3-4 days... it's an impromptu creation, and i think it was in no way pathetic... but more imprtantly it's awesome listening to their stories... the common man comes of age
@ashy2127 Very Very True!! Although there is a scene (while the final rehearsal in the Studio) where Ram is seen sipping on something that "resembles" alcohol. :P
@MrU110163 He says in the movie "Life and Music of Indian Ocean" that his family was originally from kashmir. His family was one of the many kashmiri pundits who had to move out. If you hear the song Kaun, Amit Kilam starts with some lyrics in Kashmiri.
This show overwhelms me every time I see it. It is able to strike a chord so deep within my soul, that I lay myself baren to the magic that is music.

Great work!!! Apart from great song there were 3 great points about this episode
1. Camaraderie between mohit chauhan and Indian Ocean
2. Rahul Ram's great sense of humour which shows that if you are young at heart you can connect with people even half your age.
3. Sushmit Sen's description of the struggle faced which somehow gives a confidence that if you have a strong will, you can have it your way.
