lmao,I laugh when i see this...I had this exact problem with mine, you know what I had to do to get it to work?... kick the dash by the passengers side(where the fuse box, heater core, & relays in the glove box are...)started everytime when i'd do tht, otherwise did same as urs, found it on accident one day i got pissed at it.... later found out the wire harness down in tht area had 3 or so corroded bare wires... if u still can't figure it out, and push comes to shove, give it a tap.
I know what the problem is . Your jeep is a piece of shit, just like mine!!! My 95 looks, sounds and runs like a bag of shit ! Well back to my "JEEP ON TOP OF BOMBFIRE" fantasy! Later!
Throttle position sensor and IAC motor - throttle body, condensation in distributor cap or worn contacts in cap/rotor - throttle cleaning as well and check plugs for proper gap:)
do you know how i can reset the miles/km to service computer? my stands on 0km and perform service . will it reset automatic when i changing the engine oil and filter?
@AleksFarm yea go to the screen that tells u how many miles u have left to service and pus and hold set untill it beeps then it will reset it for another 3000 miles
its either the fuel pump, pressure regulator or the computer. Is it electronic fuel injection, it could be the efi computer. The computer could be telling the efi to stay open and flood it or it could be that its not getting enough. It sounds like its gettin g little gulps of gas every now and again but its gotta be the efi or fuel pump.
Dude same problem trust me on this one check the fault code on the computer its not a mechanical system such as the fuel pump if you didnt have fuel pressure it you wouldnt be able to give it gas at all there is pressure in the fuel rod
if the code is P0171 its your oxygen sensor
change the o2 sensor and see how it runs I bet you it is the heater circuit inside the o2 sensor thats why it didnt start cold then when it warmed up it ran ok.
i know youve probably heard this before, but when you start it after its been sitting for some time, try not to rev it up too high for a few seconds, it increases wear on ur crankshaft, etc
Thanks for the reply. I read through all of the comments, but didn't fully read the description. Gunked up throttle body! I'm surprised. Thanks again.
If it's only when cold it is the temp sensor. Otherwise it is the throttle position sensor. If you fixed it (it's been a year now), at least post what the problem was.
hey if you havent had it fixed yet just bring it in, it should be a cheap fix. i had mine do that, i let it warm up and drove it fine for 1/8 of a mile and then it died at a stop sign. it was something with the oxygen sensor and temp sensor or some comp thing, that was 3000 miles ago and its perfectly fine now
my ford probe does this crap. the wierd thing is it cranks over fine when it wont start...the ONLY way to get it to run is by pushing it (5spd)....the starter is fine and everything...as i said it cranks over fine...but somehow when you push it starts. its fucked up, never even heard of a problem like that before. i cant figure out why pushing it makes it start...but the starter turning the motor over wont...
my uncle has the same Jeep, but his is a 1997, and last time I checked it had 128,XXX miles on the odometer, after he replaced the blown motor that his son messed up.
The problem is the IAC, which is idle air control solonoid on the back of the throttlebody, my 98 ram 318 did this and i pulled the tb cleaned the iac, fixed the problem. notorious issue on the 318 magnums... the plenum gasket that is
My sisters 98 did the same thing. check engine light indicated a distributor position sensor. If you open the distributor, there is a plat with sensor on it under the rotor. I think it is about a $60 part we had to get from a dealer, but we replaced it, and it worked great! We could get it from an autoparts store but they called it anything from an ignition pickup sensor, to a distributor sensor, to a crank position sensor. all in all,it is just a simple round plate with a pickup sensor on it.
Try replacing the fuel pressure regulator, it sounds fine once it is running but it needs more gas to start it, it definitely has to be the fuel pressure regulator
By the way the timing light is going off, I would first check the distributor to see if there is any moisture in it. If not check your fuel filter, it's probably clogged, other problems may be your fuel pump, IAC(idle air control valve), Air filter, injectors.
I had the same problems with mine, I had a 1998 Grand Cherokee. If the weather went from Hot to cold, or cold to hot it had the same starting problem. Also, my trans would shift into OD if the jeep was too cold.
The dealer told me that it's just a jeep thing.
My started to die so i got a TrailBlazer, miss the jeep though. Good Luck with yours!
Which transmission do you have in your ZJ? B/c there is a cast iron ring in it that will start to mess with the gears when you get into higher speeds because it would shrink and expand depending on how hot or cold it was.
I would check three things, the throttle position sensor, the coolant temp sensor (the one for the ECU, not the dash gauge, and the idle air control motor.
oh i forgot to tell u. don't use all the bottles at once. before putting gas use only one bottle. then do samething everytime u put gas. hope u get it. good luck. remember use premium
Samething happened to my jeep. the injectors could be dirty so go to strauss or auto zone and buy this bottle called let me remember injecter cleaner or something like that. ask the cashier. and they will find it for u. and when u go to the gasoline station to pump gas to u car make sure u use premium gas. don't ever use the regular gas cause thats want causes it. oh yeah make sure you buy like 10 bottles. before putting gas in ur car put the bottle first okay good luck.
Dude, I had the same exact problem with my 1996 gmc sierra. It was the fuel lines as well as the fuel rail and injectors were clogged. also do you notice a lot of power loss? if so then it is most likely the fuel system.
I would look at a possible crank shaft position sensor (CPS). Also check your grounds, and especially what shape your battery terminals/cables are in. I've got a XJ with a 4.0 and some bad cables that does the same symptoms at random times. I would advise against flooring it when your cranking it and hitting red line on a stone cold engine like that. Not good at all for anything!
I had problem similar to that. on most rainy days the car would start fine but would not idle. I completely replaced the battery cable wires about 12 days ago and have not had a problem since then. (rain and snow 7 out of those 12 days.) Don't just cut the battery cable wires and clamp on new terminal post connectors. I did that and it cuased the computer to restart everytime i let the jeep sit over night.
I have almost same problem(on my 96 Grand Cherokee with same engine)... Car running great but when idling some time car dies, and dies for long... After 20-30 minutes when engine temperature falls down, she starts like new! I made on-board diagnostic and I have code 54(No signal from CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR). I hope it will help you, good luck!
Dude check your throttle body and throttle position sensor and check the crankshaft positioning sensor that might fix it
