I remember this. Being a big Monkees fan, I was so thrilled---never thought it would happen. MTV was so cool then, like a pirate TV station. These kids today don't know what they're missing.
I believe that my first exposure to the Monkees was through this marathon. I didn't see the whole thing, but I remember my first episode, "Monkee Chow Mein". Hilarious! My Mom went to see them in concert that year, and I went to see them 10 years later! Thanks for posting this, because I didn't remember this promo at all! :-)
Try fast forwarding the tape all the way to the end. Remove it from the player. Put it back in and rewind all the way. Then play it. This is a trick that works sometimes. It re-spools the tape so that it is at the same position on the reels all the way through. Tracking problems sometimes happen from taking a tape out halfway through viewing. 4 of these vids I posted are here because I did that.
This was so fun. I remember how it sparked a resurgence of the band in popularity. So much that they did a music tour. It was great. I was a big fan and got to see that tour with me Dad. :-) Fun!
I would love to see the in betweens of that stuff from MTV... Didn't Montie Landis drop by MTV... I stayed up though the whole thing.. I was 15 at the time...
Wasn't there a "Pleasant Valley Sunday" MTV Marathon as well? Where the MTV VJ's would introduce episodes and musicians would talk about the Monkees in little snippets in between the commercials/show?
i remember taping the whole thing... i think i turned 14 that summer. i still have the VHS tapes, with all the episodes labeled... and now i have them on DVD, knowing this was wayyy before i thought something like a DVDs or the Glory of YouTube could be possible. makes me think what we'll have fourteen years from now. (virtual 1968-era-interactive-nez-in-my-room...???)
Yes I remember this well!!! It was great! I didn't have a VCR back then to tape them, but now since they're on DVD, who the heck want's video tapes!?!? Lol
I was not much into the Monkees music, but the show was amusing once in a while. This was back when almost all the MTV shows had to do with music in some degree. Even The Young Ones and Remote Control had music elements to them. Those were the days. I stopped watching MTV around '92 or so other than an occasional flip to Beavis and Butthead. More to come...
Wait! Something music related? ON MTV??

I was 12, at the time. I taped most of that marathon.
Still have one of the tapes, but the audio is long gone, and the picture couldn't be saved by all the tracking adjustments, in the world.

Can we see MORE of this MARATHON, please?
I miss seeing the REAL Guys, here, instead of Fan-made Videos and Tributes.
Thanks,
