  • Best 9 minutes of my life

  • This filled me with sheer joy. Exceedingly clever and technically adept. I'd favorite it a hundred times if I could! Well done, sir!

  • I'd favorite this twice if I could

  • If I could favorite this ten times I would

  • ROTFLMAO! This thought-provoking parody nearly made my lunch come out through my nose! :-)

  • Love this video - humming it all day!

  • lolz when the dog with the magazine

  • great! but - as someone said - the ad industry only has itself to blame = we lost (self) respect. (Y&R used to have a pic of a backbone on the wall where i worked...)

none was better positioned to take the lead in the d-revolution than we were

well, maybe the lead was taken and maybe it's by definition and appropriately 'everyone'

and the copernican communication revolution is not something that could take place on the avenue or its many sidestreets in diff lands ...

    :-/

  • Great Job!!! 5***** and faved!

  • Does anyone know how I can get a copy to show in my company meeting.

  • awesome job

  • Beautiful.

  • AWESOME, go digital media and distribution.

  • I worked for a while in the late 90's designing phone book (remember them?) ads for a large telco. I also worked at some agencies as a freelancer so this song really hits home, but in a good way. I think it's hysterical.

  • This is truly one of the most intelligent and humerous parodies I have seen in a very long time. You get a very big thumbs up from me :)

  • love this song!

  • Ahh the good old days.....

  • Just too cool. Trying to zero in on my dissertation paper on new media and chanced upon this... enjoyed it a lot.

  • I laughed, I cried, I forwarded the link...

    and therein lies the rub.

  • this is hilarious and amazing! only 122k views? what happened?

  • Excellent! Great video.

I am sad, pained, I majored in journalism in college, painful to watch it go... but I welcome new media and the many platforms it provides.

Still just wish we had a few Walter Cronkite's around.

  • btw: there is a site chronicling the death of news-

papers; people who like this parody might also

like that; "newspaper death watch"; very civilized,

    relaxing and sometimes funny

  • Great! - Poland

  • IT BURNS, IT BURNS, oh the humanity!

  • Sad, but so damned true! Thumps up!

  • I like it!

  • Thumps up, ekstreamely well done. LOL :)

  • Excellent LOL

So well down, as well as the Wall Street Meltdown. :)

  • nice and VERY true song...could be used in Mediaschools to get the real inside of the damn ad biz

  • Love it! also your featured on one of the creators of YouTube profile, Chad!

  • Haha.. Funny one. Remember that Internet per definition also fits inside Media. Also, brand awareness will always be of interest. Soon there will be ways also to measure time spent in front of a banner. Before Internet, there wouldn't been any advertising in print when telemarketing boomed back in 90s, purely result-based - there still was ads in print.

    Cost per watched second of ones ad/brand attention-time, eCPM=eCPMinute . :)

    Yes. A brilliant song!

    //K

  • BRILLIANT!!!

  • Five stars from me.... hilarious!

  • This video is truly truly classic, and hilarious. Must be very very talented in order ti squeeze the message into Don McLean's lyrics. Brilliant!

  • LMcDuff.....genius creation

  • Absolut great work, dude. Working at several online publishers since 2001, so I know what you are singing about. Outstanding work!!!

  • Amazing understanding of the ad biz - beautiful

  • excellent!!!!!! !!!!

  • Also been a journalist once. It was interesting, but

was also glad to get out of it.

When searching with "circulation down ad rates up" one comes straight to a number of articles, from 2004, ... the media never tell or mention some aspects. Have fun getting a proper explanation as to why and how.

  • Epic...

  • Just terrific.

--Retired newspaper guy, and just in time

  • well done!

  • Midia nojenta sendo substituida pela Web.

    Não muito engraçado, mas, trágico.

    será ?

  • Oh my god....everything true...brilliant

  • Freakin' brilliant...and sadly true....

  • Loved the video!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, we can, desde España.

  • Love it all the way over in Norway :-)

  • Le sigh. And all I want to do is be a content producer...

  • Outstanding!!

  • Love it - I work in online and its not so big in SA yet, so the TV & Print guys are still loving themselves.... but the wheels are turning.

  • watch it...the ice in your Martini is melting... no more bottles in the bar...

  • I have no idea what you're talking about...

    I'm still drinking Martini!

  • Frigging brilliant and hilarious, man! Great choice of song & pics, and the lyrics were funny and so spot-on! And you did it in one day? Amazing! Really appreciate the time and effort you took! Cheers!

  • What a hoot. One more reason for us to keep scrambling. Scramble energy is great. I can't get away from it.

  • brilliant, very well done video. Love anything that mentions Google.

  • You don't know what I watch. A huge lie. Does traditional advertising work. Yes. Does it work well. NO!!!!!

The president of the Ad Federation of America told a convention about three years ago that advertising agencies get a poor return on investment. Most agencies suck at messaging, so even if the message is seen, it doesn't matter. It is a dying industry. Get used to it. --- I hear there are waiters jobs available in NYC, Chicago & LA.

  • shakes his head in shame at greencheesemedia. "poor fella" he says. "Whats wrong with greencheesemedia, daddy?" says his clueless son. "Boy, he's gone to rest..."

  • Why don't advertising agencies advertise. They know it does not work. It is a huge scam. That's why our business is booming.

  • They do, but since you are not their target group, you do not see their messages

  • do something funny

  • That was brilliant....and sad. Very well done

  • very well done. thanks!

  • You made my day, congrats!!!

  • I love it!!! Thanks for the effort to make it, it's absolutely brilliant!

  • AWESOME JOB! LOVED IT! :)

  • An amazing song, with incredibly good lyrics. Good work!

  • Adorei!

  • Bye old ad boys...

  • Amazing!

  • Awesome - thanks!

  • Love it. Love it, Love it, Love it. Im going to watch this everyday to get motivated for work. ROCK ON.

  • bye bye big upfront buys! ha! quality...

  • simplemente ...Genial !!!!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Brillant concepció, interpretació...

Amb aquesta creativitat, els mitjans no estan del tot morts, oi?

  • Briliant. But agencies, press and TV's still don't get it. There are always different reasons - price of paper, crisis or that people do not read anymore :)

  • The video definitely demonstrates the changing landscape of how, we as individuals, get our information. This has huge implications, especially with the next generation set to come of age with iPhones, Kindles, computers - all digital. Maybe I'm old fashioned, I do like the paper on a lazy Sunday. The good old days!

  • Good effort, but message not clear enough and too long for me.

Wish someone would make a video conveying to journalists the importance of their work and how if done right can make our world a better place. Too many journalists and editors turn out nothing but hype and sensationalism. Thank goodness for Indy Media and a few papers that are worth reading.

  • VERY NICE

  • Well done but over 9 minutes is too long.

  • Excellent

  • They did it to themselves by completely abandoning objectivity.

  • Think i´m gonna start a martinibar! Wow this really rocks!

  • I think this is brilliant and will be featuring in it in my next blog on Brand Republic (UK).

  • Brilliant. It's a pity only a select few will actually get it.

  • with references like "Viacom's lawsuit was denied" (??), is it any wonder?

  • Well done! But as I sit on furlough from my media employer, it makes me sad, too.

  • Very well done.

  • I love it. Do you an mp3 available?

  • Very well done!!!

  • Very cool! Well done! Posted the link on Twitter...

  • Nice presentation but the internet is part of the media as well right?!!?

  • very clever but some people clearly have too much time on their hands. Former ad salesman?

  • righteous! :D

  • amazing !

  • So good!! Gracias!

  • Great job on the lyrics. Amusing visuals. Painfully funny.

  • Well done!

captured the issues regarding the media industry superbly.

  • Just more of the same - negative media propaganda!

  • Very well done. I worked in advertising (on the creative side) and this hits the target. acro47, if you have been hearing this message for years, why haven't you adapted accordingly? Newspapers, etc. have always been content providers with some ads thrown in. I ignore the ads in magazines just like I ignore the ads online or on TV. If I want to learn about a product, I'll do my homework. I don't need some "Mad Man" telling me what I need to buy.

  • fantastic! absolutely brilliant!

  • content wants to be free

  • Perfect! And I speak as a media industry refugee. I'm sending this to all my friends still in the industry.

  • Very creative - and informative. I have passed the link to this along to many people. Not only is it informative, but it is a good jam. Well done, sir(s)/ma'am.

  • brilliant. On the money... or at least on where the money used to be. Insightful and intelligent. Thank you for sharing!!

  • Really well-done! Excellent use of the lingo, and a good history lesson too. Thanks.

  • I loved it. Would have loved it even more if I understood it ...

  • well if you have this message on table for few years, how comes it didnt get through? Think about it.

  • Genious XD

  • Bravo McDuff!

  • This is cutting, sprawling, fantastic and outstanding. If you are taking on this kind of a song, wow! It is also a 15-year-review of what has happened. Really smart. Thank you.

  • nice! so many great industry terms & issues worked in...super impressed

  • I loved this, except for one glaring thing: "American Pie" is a well-established rock'n'roll standard. There's nothing Blues about this song, neither the rhythm nor the chord progressions, calling it Mad Avenue Blues is as wacky as calling it Mad Avenue Rap or Mad Avenue Light Opera.

As for theme & lyrics, that part is a real treat.

  • Dude, its called that way because blues is regarded as a sad song where the "singer" is complaining about things is his life that went wrong...

  • Brillian!! The lyric is just perfect and so creative! The only thing is that I don't find that the video/image is at the same level, you should had work this more... for instance don't repeat images, it doesn't work.

    Congratulations!!

  • And only true media people would compliment and critique like this. :) Gotta love it. LOL

  • Phenom job!

  • Great video

  • Well done.

  • I loved your Mad Ave Blues. I don't think there was a topic you didn't touch as far as the state of media-advertising-technology is concerned. Amazed.

  • Brilliant! Simply brilliant. :)

  • that was sad and funny at the same time :-) great job check out my videos they are so cute

    nice job

    LMcDuff08

  • Nice job, for sure! That gives me an idea...digital media buyers hit me up :)

  • Perfectly, delightful!!!!!

    I like it!

  • Thanks for my first chuckle of the morning!

  • great stuff. i work in the media ad game, and these insights are spot on.

  • this is just sheer genius - some fantastic insights...

  • lol, nice job

  • Hilarious!

  • Brilliant. Simply brilliant.

  • It's awesome.

    Really enjoyed it!

    Can't wait for the sequel!

  • Very funny!

  • Spot on, and WELL DONE.

  • Newspaper gone, broadcast falling...go spot cable, banner ads, VOD!

  • This is great and so appropriate!

  • Fantastic, thankyou + tweeted

  • Love it Terry!!

  • excellent, cheerio!

  • just fabulous - congrats! and you did justice to don as well, including the trills - great work & contribution!

  • thanks for a moment of humor and self reflection when you released this #cmsummit

  • Good stuff.

  • So good....

  • Funny as hell! Good work, McDuff, who ever you are.

  • Love the parody... Good vocals too...

  • I've been in advertising for over 20 years and this is brilliant. Loved it.

  • Really good. Could be truly great with a little editing. Might you excise the more arcane references and consolidate the familiar ones?

You know it's MacDuff not McDuff, right? Of course you do.

  • This is awesome: totally, completely brilliant.
