Why does everyone say that this level is so hard? It's like "Tubular" in SMW. It's not that hard.

Even with Luigi and his lack of traction, this level never gave me any trouble. I'm not saying this to sound superior or anything. I'm just confused as to why everyone says this is the hardest level in the game.

@Ashanmaril Unfortunately, you DO come off as pretty smug, as "Tubular" is widely considered the toughest stage in Super Mario World. I will give you the benefit of the doubt though.

@Overhazard Outrageous is probably the hardest, but it's not that bad either. I've been playing SMW since I was about 3 or 4, so I've gotten a lot of time to figure out how to game's engine works. Once you get it all figured out, the game becomes a lot easier. I actually don't even play SMW that much any more, as I've started playing ROM hacks, and I've even made a few levels. (You can see a level of mine in a video I recently uploaded called "A2MT Level Update".)

2: only 100 coins, solid instead of spinning platforms, less timw. (I think theres cosmic clones too)

My choice is SMG2 though. Pretty hard!

well I relate. I got luigi's purple coins in 1 try, and I had 120 stars when I completed the smg2 one (it was my last star I got, in other words). the mario squared galaxy one was so hard... it was mostly death by cosmic clones. I had to backtrack a lot. but I took the same route that overhazard did on LPCs. I rocked it XD

I just beat this board on Super Mario Galaxy 2 - they have some throwback boards to SMG and SMG64 after you beat Bowser. On this one though, there are only 100 coins, you have to get them all, and get back to the beginning where the star will be - in ONLY 2 minutes this time! I'm not sure which was harder - I think the SMG2 one - took me like 30 tries over 3 days to get the timing, pattern, and clock management down - oh yeah and the floor keeps vanishing! Heheh.

If you have trouble completing this level here a few tips:

1. Don't walk everywhere try to avoid tiles that doesn't have coins on them.

2. Learn the steps play the level a few times and learn which places to avoid.

3. Master all jumps know how to long jump, spin jump and long-spin jump.

4. Remember missing a coin isn't a problem because there are 150 purple coins.

5. Don't get frustraded this is the hardest level you can get in the entire game!

@daximon Doing this as Mario is a bit easier as he doesn't slip and slide around as much. On the other hand, Luigi is better at the points where you need to jump because he jumps further, so you need to time Mario's jumps very carefully.

@KooKookid520 this one to me is much harder. there is a sling star shortcut in a very spooky sprint that really helps you.

The two keys two this level are not worrying about time... there's enough, and making those two long jumps for lots of coins, if you can make both of them then you don't have to be too picky about the coins you get afterwards, if you miss a couple zig zagging, there's enough along the way to make up for it.

This level sure was harder as luigi though since he can't stop on a dime like mario can, although the positive was the longer jumps.

Do you mean playing as Mario rather than Luigi? It sounds like you mean the Mario side of this platform rather than the character you're using. There is no Purple Coin mission for that--only the Luigi side.

Yes, there is. The Mario side is used in Mission 2, "Mario Meets Mario," and you collect 5 silver stars. The Luigi side is used in Mission 5, "Luigi's Purple Coins," and you collect 100 Purple Coins.

That's why I mentioned that it's impossible to get the Purple Coins in this mission and see lava.

This is hard because

1: Unlike marios side, luigis overalls are made out of black dark matter quicksand, while marios are made out of lava, which you have a chance of living from, but the quicksand automaticly kills you,

2: some of the purple coins you must jump off and then spin correctly to get back on it.

3: It makes no sense that you die if you fall off, i mean, isnt 8 bit mario on the other side?
