BY 79 the kinder gentler DI's were already taking hold in the Corps.maybe they wore shorts then ...I wasnt there BUT I repeat no DI I ever saw wore shorts in my time at P.I.

@redifreddy14 None of my D.I.'s were...I won't even say it. We wore shorts in '79. The Marines by then had become a little humane because of all the political pressure of the sixties and seventies. To question authority had become the rule of thumb during that era. And many changes were made and wearing shorts was one of them. SSgt. Velasquez was my Junior Drill Instructor and he was damned great with COD. He'd always say "DO NOT let that 7-1/2 pound rifle kick your ass!"

He was all about the Crab-Claws and "Are you gonna' hold a beer like a woman, or like this? "

Then again- it usually "took" us about 10-15 mins to set up the mini-grinder because Sgt. Fuller LOVED playing the foot locker shuffle and "portside starboard side right now." Sgt. Fullers favorite (aside from slaying bodies) was 2 sheets and a blanket.

hey SSgt. Nichols get us some videos of these guys on the parade deck making those heels strike the deck! I always loved to listen to 3rd phase recruits driving those heels into the deck. When I was stationed at MCAS Beaufort I'd ride over to Parris Island and watch the recruits drill. Its a beautiful thing!
