this album came out my freshman year of college...I was already hooked on them from their debut album....glad I found this...great memories....great band:)
@doxielov in college in Rochester,NY in the early 90's, this album did, and still does move me ...this album transports me back to listening to this drinking brews on the banks of Lake Ontario...
I have always loved this song -- first heard waaaay back when I was a teenager. Now I'm almost 40, and it speaks to me now more than ever. Thanks for posting.
Normally I'm more of a synths person and drumcomputer cheesy popmusic. But this song and more of their stuff is great. They play and sing with so much emotion. I really love it.
This is one of those songs that I didn't notice much at first, but it grew on me and is now one that moves me deeply.
They (Karen and Don Peris, in particular) don't tour much since they started a family, but I sure hope they do at least a limited tour when their next album comes out. I have family back east, and I would happily plan a visit to coincide with tour dates in their neck of the woods.
If Plato's philosophical concept of the "Form" of Beauty has musical embodiments in this world, this band is surely one of the most accurate of them. Thank you, God, for the Innocence Mission.
Me too, saw them in Baltimore about a decade and a half ago and just thought of them tonight. She's still got the best voice out there, such a sweet, good person. I wrote her a fan letter: she wrote back! :-)))
OH MY GOD!!!! i wrote to her as well....this was around the same time as you. she wrote me back on fantastic stationary that was cream colored with leaves on it. she talked about my hometown and places she had visited there. sooooooo wonderful to hear your story as well....
Aren't you bursting with butterflies on the fourth of September? (Hey that's today) I have a hard time saying what is my favorite song by TIM but this is definately right up there. Just great!
god, he gave me a brave heart but god, he gave me a chicken head and I felt I'd failed I am always beginning the world beginning the world aren't you bursting with butterflies on the fourth of september? like you'll have to get on the bus in your tartan dress, with your lunch box though your body is twenty-nine though your mind is an old thing I mean, don't you ever sigh?
I am always beginning the world beginning the world I am always beginning the world beginning the world always the same underdog stance under the same happy-sad sky eternally crying, am I still shy? I am always beginning the world beginning the world I am always beginning the world beginning the world beginning the world

This song is the my favorite track and the reason why I bought the album. Bought it my last semester in college and the song was very fitting.

Was lucky enough to see these guys in Atlanta around '91 when this album came out. These are such heartfelt, soul-bearing lyrics.

BEGINNING THE WORLD
I was home by the winter
I was home from the school town, undecided
and questions came, like:
"what did you say you're doing now?"
well, I, I had hopes for my music
and I imagined their faces said:
"well, you can't do that, you silly thing,"
