Updating a post from about a year ago my 2000 dakota now has 247,000 miles and I finally had to replace the oem clutch at 235,000...this truck is bullet proof with the 3.9
Hi all, I have an 87 Dakota that has a couple of issues with it and I hope someone can help. First, when I start up in the mornings I have to let it idle for about 10 minutes before I drive off or it will stall. Second, no air blows out of my vents, it just recirulates. Does ANYONE out there have any idea what is going on? Please oh please help!!! I greatly appreciate it.
I have a '98 with the lil 2.5 L 4-cylinder and a 5-speed transmission... Funny, I was wanting a truck with a trailer hitch and a cruise control and 5-spd and I got it! I've had for 4 yrs now, it has 194,000 miles and it's had its issues, mainly just stuff wearing out... Still gets over 20 mpg, and after I tune it up I expect that to go up! Biggest complaint is how hard it was to replace the oil pump, I didn't want to raise the engine, so I worked around the (partly) dropped oilpan, oy!
@luis5462 The brake light circuit is shorted to the tail lamps, try removing both rear brake light bulbs and see if you still have the problem, possible causes: incorrect light bulbs, bad bulb socket, trailer connector / wiring frayed shorted pinched wire harness.
2004 3.7 v6....5spd...2wd. good times. i am looking for an exhuast, anyone know of one i can get that doesnt get to loud. from what ive heard they all get to noisy around 2k
@oxymoron2727 Try the Dynomax Super Turbo, Bettler flow quiet an cruise with some noise in the gas, Also sticking the the stock tailpipe will help, If you choose dual exhaust tailpipes then dont put the huge chrome tips on it as these amplify any sound
@oellrichm hey its me again, the other day i did just what u said lol swapped the muffler for the super turbo and i could not be happier. thanks for ur help
hey question for someone who really knows dakotas. I got a 05 4.7, club cab with a K&N air filter, just took the exhaust off cuz it was way too quite. Anyway my question is what is some of the cheaper/easier things I can do to make my truck faster? Its pretty quick for a truck right now but I would like to get a little more acceleration, not really looking for top end speed.
@Jbeetle44 best way to find stuff is go to summit racing web site and searcxh by vehicle and engine and then broiwse all the results, you can get throttle body spacers, under drive pulleys, high flow mufflers, your engine will actuall make more torque with mufflers on it so pick out a nice dynomax super turbo or the ultral flow welded, the ultra flow is louder, and also looking into a pcm re-programmer
2000 Dakota Sport 2wd standard cab, 4.7L 5 speed, 9.25 differential with 3:92 posi. Lowered 1-2, k&n cold air intake, dual exhaust with series 40 flowmaster.
K&N air filter and an high flow exhaust muffler for starters or you could always trade up to the R/T model eqippped with the 5.9 engine then the possibilities are plentiful
i have a 89 dakota 340 sb i love my dakota got little odds and ends to finish on it then i can finelly drive it after rebuilding it for the last 5 years
I can glady say yes to all of those questions!!! i love my 2000 dakota. V8, 5-speed, limited slip rear axle, 2x4. what more could a guy want. plus the 3in. magnaflow cat-back is nice too!!!

i have a black 2001 dodge dakota sport with a 3.9 liter v6, cold air intake, glass packs, roll pan, its a 5-speed and its quick as hell, it'll put about any foreign crome fart-burners into the ground!
