In April of 2001, in his budget for 2002, he states that the GSE, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are "a potential problem" because financial problems in either could "cause strong repercussions in financial markets" In 2003, Bush states a more stronger point for regulation to congress by saying teh GSE's are a "systemic risk" that could spread beyond the housing market. There is more but I am having difficulty with fitting it all in.

As eager and passionate as they were to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, they didn't do it. It was President Bush and the Republicans who ordered Fannie and Freddy to increase subprime lending.
It took the Democrats taking power to reform it, and by then it was too late.

The bubble was caused by loose regulation and far too cheap money and credit available after interest rates went to nothing after 9/11. Bush raised several red flags about the sub-prime regulaions. In April of 2001, in his budget for 2002, he states that the GSE, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are "a potential problem" because financial problems in either could "cause strong repercussions in financial markets" In 2003, Bush states a more stronger point for regulation to congress by saying teh GSE's are a "systemic risk" that could spread beyond the housing market. There is more but I am having difficulty with fitting it all in.
