i worked at a pool as a lifeguard this summer and there was always this baby and her father would come swimming for for what seemed like every other day and the little girl was always so comfortable in the water and this is not different

@stepeanielove638 babies have a natural reflex to hold their breath underwater cause they used to doing it the whole 9 months of pregnancy and the babies you see in vids like this had alot of practice and are very supervised as you can see
I don't think some of the commenters realize that this obviously wasn't the kids first time in the water. You start out small, teaching the infant to hold their breath by doing things like saying 1, 2, 3 and pore a small amount of water on their head while in the bath tub. Doing this every day a few times until the understand that 3 means to hold their breath. Once they get it there, you can do quick submersions, then you can teach them to kick, float and roll over. Doing this can save lives.
@TLprincess actually its an instinct all land dwelling vertabrates have, in our case only as infants. Water on an infant primates face will cause it to hold it's breath everytime, you can stimulate the same reflex by blowing on a baby's face.
@TLprincess babies have the ability to hold their breathe underwater for the first couple months of their lives. & they know how to kick. So they they do start off small, but if you put a baby in the water for 2 seconds to swim it will be ok, they just can't stay under for longer than that

@stepeanielove638 babies have a natural reflex to hold their breath underwater cause they used to doing it the whole 9 months of pregnancy and the babies you see in vids like this had alot of practice and are very supervised as you can see

I don't think some of the commenters realize that this obviously wasn't the kids first time in the water. You start out small, teaching the infant to hold their breath by doing things like saying 1, 2, 3 and pore a small amount of water on their head while in the bath tub. Doing this every day a few times until the understand that 3 means to hold their breath. Once they get it there, you can do quick submersions, then you can teach them to kick, float and roll over. Doing this can save lives.

@TLprincess actually its an instinct all land dwelling vertabrates have, in our case only as infants. Water on an infant primates face will cause it to hold it's breath everytime, you can stimulate the same reflex by blowing on a baby's face.

@TLprincess babies have the ability to hold their breathe underwater for the first couple months of their lives. & they know how to kick. So they they do start off small, but if you put a baby in the water for 2 seconds to swim it will be ok, they just can't stay under for longer than that

@littlemisDana They don't hold their breath. They first fill up their stomaches with water by blocking off their lungs and then use the oxygen from the water to 'breath'

And obviously you haven't taken child developement if you haven't learned about this. I've seen with my own eyes newborns swimming with their heads underwater. So wherever your getting your sources from, is incorrect.

@TLprincess babies already know how to swim when they come out of the womb because they are in water for nine months so they use those same instincts they did when they were in the womb to hold their breath. but as they get older they lose their knowledge of knowing how to swim and hold their breath so they have to be taught again

@KeeshaStyle22 Well that's you and you can do whatever the hell you want with your baby. This, on the other hand, gives a baby more of a chance of surviving in water. All babies are born with the natural instinct to swim. A baby is carried in the mother's womb for 9 months. And in case you didn't know, it's kinda wet in there.. Also, in the womb, the babies lungs are filled with embryonic fluid. You're 14? ..Maybe you should spend more time in health class and less time on Youtube complaining.

@gracie30000 Cruel? So you prefer that the baby drown? I think THATS cruel... They are teaching him what to do if he ever falls into a pool... The baby isn't in pain and when he comes up he isn't crying or anything. There is nothing cruel about this.

Its amazing, people think that by overprotecting their children, they are doing right. I guess you wouldn't know the good in this until you go through something where your child would be put in some kind of danger. Ask a parent who's child drowned if they would of liked to have taught their baby how to swim.
