The shark didn't just explode though. Jake put an explosive into its mouth as he got mauled, which allowed Michael to drive the shark crazy and activate the bomb. The shark roaring is bullshit though and fucked up.

Still better than the other ending that's on the DVD release..at least this one makes sense as opposed to the shark just exploding from sheer will.
