I really believe that Ford didn't put all they had into the Crown Vics because for a number of years they ruled the full size rwd police market. The cars were reliable (I mean they had to be) but compared to what Ford could have done they definitely lacked in some areas. Still a nice car and good driving, but too much gas around that turn, gotta be careful with that posi lol.

@xxMRGRENADExx Dude every Crown Vic since 1993 has had the 2V 4.6 V8. You might want to do some research before posting. The P71's had around 235 HP and in 01 I believe they got the Marauder airbox which kicked up the HP to 250.
@Sidewinder9877 210 from 92-97, 215 from 98-00, 235 from 01-02 and 239 in 03. all of which are the same as regular Crown Vics/Towncar/Grand Marq equiped with dual exhaust. the Marauder Airbox came in 04 and made moddest difference in performance. 0-60 went from 9.1 seconds to 8.4 from 03-04 but the 2011 models runs 0-60 in 8.9-9.0 seconds depending on axle ratio. Michigan State police has tested all major police vehicles since 03 and has all specs and info on their website.
I put 150lbs of sandbags in the back of my P71...makes sliding around the corner a little more controllable. The rear springs were meant to have 200+lbs of police gear in the trunk...

@1canadianehhole yea actually it is easy lol. i owned 1. infact it was a 2002 ex state michigan trooper car so it was alot faster. they are very easy to slide sideways and keeps under control, if you know how to drive and not jerk th wheel.

mmm, the vette was badass, but the p71 was even better....i know its not as fast but i still love em. and as for caprice vs crown vic.....neither my '88 civilian vic with the 5.0 or my '91 p72 with the 351 windsor has been beaten by a caprice...the caprice i raced with my p72 was a cop caprice....and didnt stand a chance :)
you will never out run the police its too many against you plus they have better comuncation and there cars are always in top shape new tires and everything else.

Come on, please , it would be insulting to compare crown vic to a 96 LT-1 Caprice. The caprcie would put a fight and will catch up with any car on the road.
dude no offense but the crown vic handles a bit better and depending on year the caprice is also ugly as hell and the 04 on up vics handle even better!...the only drawback is that they need a bit more power....actually quite a bit more power....*stock* vics are s.l.o.w!
It's funny that Ford decides to come out with a car that will compete with the Chevrolet Impala 10 years after the B-Body platform was discontinued. Add to that the Marauder was a huge failure. Still a nice ass car! Also I agree with tooslow01. It's been said the Caprice has always been a more appealing car to drive. 03+ vics can probably outperform the Caprice, but anything before that is a joke.
My 99 is pretty fast...considering...But its all in the gears, I still have a Npi 4.6...I do however plan on doing the Pi head swap and a 5 speed...and the normal bold on stuff like cams..well I guess I cant call that a bolt on since its a 4.6..lol I think that one of the best years for the "whale" is the 2004..
In respects to horsepower & speed, the 9C1 is faster than most Vics but marginally. The handling of '02 Crown Vics and beyond would certainly make a joke of the 9C1. Either way, they are great cars on both respects.
Fully agreed. I like the LT1 as an engine, but the rest of the Caprice is not that great. Plus, I think Chevy had a gem in the Impala/9C1 crowd that could have been big.
And the '03-present Vics are even better in handling and are a bit lighter than prior models. I have an '03, and it's a wonderful car to drive; good handling, smooth ride, and plenty of pick up when necessary. I was lucky that the department I bought it from put new tires on there...will they be that for long? No comment. :)
i agree with the 03 vics and up how much do you know about them i myself am a mechanic for the p71's and i dont have anything older then a 04 kickin around anymore but let me tell u most of the ppl i know dont know how to drive as good as i do i can drive faster backwards then most of them can forwards its the perks of being a mechanic if they can hold up to the abuse i put them through then they are ready for anything

mmm, the vette was badass, but the p71 was even better....i know its not as fast but i still love em. and as for caprice vs crown vic.....neither my '88 civilian vic with the 5.0 or my '91 p72 with the 351 windsor has been beaten by a caprice...the caprice i raced with my p72 was a cop caprice....and didnt stand a chance :)

it depends where you are. In the city yeah you are not getting away, in the middle of no where you odds are a lot better. It also helps to have a bike :)

a) its an automatic arrest if they catch you

Come on, please , it would be insulting to compare crown vic to a 96 LT-1 Caprice. The caprcie would put a fight and will catch up with any car on the road.

dude no offense but the crown vic handles a bit better and depending on year the caprice is also ugly as hell and the 04 on up vics handle even better!...the only drawback is that they need a bit more power....actually quite a bit more power....*stock* vics are s.l.o.w!

It's funny that Ford decides to come out with a car that will compete with the Chevrolet Impala 10 years after the B-Body platform was discontinued. Add to that the Marauder was a huge failure. Still a nice ass car! Also I agree with tooslow01. It's been said the Caprice has always been a more appealing car to drive. 03+ vics can probably outperform the Caprice, but anything before that is a joke.

My 99 is pretty fast...considering...But its all in the gears, I still have a Npi 4.6...I do however plan on doing the Pi head swap and a 5 speed...and the normal bold on stuff like cams..well I guess I cant call that a bolt on since its a 4.6..lol I think that one of the best years for the "whale" is the 2004..

In respects to horsepower & speed, the 9C1 is faster than most Vics but marginally. The handling of '02 Crown Vics and beyond would certainly make a joke of the 9C1. Either way, they are great cars on both respects.

Fully agreed. I like the LT1 as an engine, but the rest of the Caprice is not that great. Plus, I think Chevy had a gem in the Impala/9C1 crowd that could have been big.
And the '03-present Vics are even better in handling and are a bit lighter than prior models. I have an '03, and it's a wonderful car to drive; good handling, smooth ride, and plenty of pick up when necessary. I was lucky that the department I bought it from put new tires on there...will they be that for long? No comment. :)

i agree with the 03 vics and up how much do you know about them i myself am a mechanic for the p71's and i dont have anything older then a 04 kickin around anymore but let me tell u most of the ppl i know dont know how to drive as good as i do i can drive faster backwards then most of them can forwards its the perks of being a mechanic if they can hold up to the abuse i put them through then they are ready for anything
