He's not trying to teach us about speed right here, we all know he's godly fast, the man picks 13 notes a second at the end of This Dying Soul for a straight minute and takes maybe one short break in it. He's trying to teach how to use different picking patterns to get different feels for a a riff. While it is awesome, there's more to guitar than playing fast. That's why Slash sells more than MAB (even though I love him)
