  • Umm... does anybody notice that the FARs likely don't apply to these pilots, as the 172 had a Canadian registration. Even though that is true, I don't believe any FARs were violated in the making of this film.

  • Great!

  • This looks fun as hell and is totally legal in every sense of the word and the regulations. I would totally try this if i had two planes, one forme and another pilot, his consent on formation and not-so-straight-and-level flight, and a tempting geographical formation to fly over/under/or through.

However....what if the engine decides to quit?

    Then suddenly, SNAFU

  • Being a pilot who likes flying low, this just straight looks like fun. I used to live in sparse Northern Michigan and other than the few trips over parts of the lake I rarely was over 500ft. Why would you want to. For all you saying they are breaking rules..Your idiots. The FARS say 500ft from any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure. Trees and rivers don't fit in this category

  • Ahhh class G. How I miss real flying! No laws were broken during the filming of this as far as I can see. As a commercial pilot with a flight instructor rating, multi IFR rating, float endorsement and a few thousand hours to boot I would know a thing or two. Formation flying is legal and so is flying low in sparsely settled areas.

  • Illegal- no. Smart-questionable. If you're the only guy that gets hurt when thing go bad, i don't have a problem. I fly at ten feet everyday and wouldn't be crazy about doin this. Youtube- the greatest collection of "evidence" on the planet. Both before and after,

  • This is exactly why you should have to be 21 to get a private pilots license... so all the adrenaline junkies have time to grow up.

  • @jeremyc311709 That would only make for more inexperienced pilot later.

  • Gosh I gate intros that never end

  • I think it's against the FAA's rules to fly that close (unless you have something - don't remember what it's called). Anyways, it a fun video to watch!

  • It's called class G airspace.

  • That does look fun - but you wouldn't catch me trying that except in a floatplane! Don't like getting my feet wet...

  • I don't care what they did right or wrong, I thought it was pretty cool. Thanks guys.

    Peace.

  • nothing wrong here as long as both pilots agreed to the formation flight. But lets remember what ALL rivers have...

  • Professional Flight degree! Lol, that doesn't exist. These guys did nothing wrong according to FAR/AIM. A few students did this at my flight school and were grounded for two weeks but they agree that it was worth it.

  • @mfife11 "Professional Flight degree"?? what the F**k is that? You don't know what you're talking about. These guys did nothing wrong.

  • There are professional flight degrees out there. :/ Anyway. Great video! Makes me want to go out and do that. XD

  • I've been flying for thirty years and I'm well versed in the FARs and I'm here to tell you he did nothing wrong. You pseudo egg head wanna be FAA dorks are just he kind of people who are sucking the fun out of general aviation. So bite me.

  • @portair1 I second this comment.

  • @portair1 DAMN STRAIT

  • I just happened to have an FAR/AIM right nexted to me and 91.517 talks about Seat belt signs and no smoking signs, and 91.119 sub part C says above 500 ft terrain except in sparsely populated areas. Im sorry but no rule was broken in my opinion. The rule that may apply is however, 91.111 but still as long as both pilots knew and briefed about formation flying no rule is broken. of coarse no paying passenger is allowed onboard.

  • not if its your plane and airspace. you can do what ever you want if thats the case

  • which part?

  • BAD ADM

  • The beggining title credit thing was EXTREMELY LONG AND ANNOYING. but the vid was cool.

  • fun fun fun!

  • Wonderfull, young padawan!

  • If you want to skip to the flying part click here 1:03

  • In Australia you're only allowed down to 500' in rural areas, and 1000'AGL over built up areas.

There are designated low-level training areas where you can go below that with an instructor for training purposes (ie simulated engine failures).

Anything lower than that and you need a waiver from CASA, and even then you need a good reason why (ie agricultural work, airshow flying, surveying, etc).

Still, looks cool but. Need to be in HD :)

  • Same in the states. While it may be cool, it is also incredibly irresponsible.

  • That is one cool video. Great editing! I enjoyed reading some of the previous comments debating the low flying. Additional risks, sure, but in an unpopulated area and being familiar with the area, the risks can be mitigated somwhat (power lines come to mind). The shots over the river remind me of a time many years ago, as a teenager taking my first flying lessons. My CFI had me following the winding Sacramento river at 300 feet for turning and altitude practice.

  • also, archmedic, correct me if im wrong. regarding below comment.

  • just fyi, to those of you who are concerned about the legal issue here, there is nothing in the FAR/AIMs that says you can't do this. especially in a rural area. not only that, but the tail numbers on those aircraft are NOT from the US.

  • Dude - there are plenty of things that are legal but stupid. I think this is one of them. The pilot's face said it all - invulnerability one of the 5 attitudes in aviation that will kill you.

Lastly, I would challenge you claim about the legallity, remember, it also states that the altitude you fly must permit you from exercising a safe landing should something come up like an engine failure. Clearly not meeting that requirement in this clip!

    Hope you stay safe!

  • I'm sure anyone in the air at 2000 feeet or bleow would opt for the river at the event of an engine failure. Seems pretty close to the river to me in the video...he could have made a safe landing if it happened. Just cause you're low doesn't mean you can't land safely. Also, by the looks of it he looked pretty concetrated before he turned to look at the camera, and if anytime someone smiles while flying means they're "invulnerable" then we have a lot of problems in our skies.

  • I cant beleive you put that on youtube, the low level flying is ok because you are not in a built up area (500 ft+ in built up areas) but the formation flying is not OK. you even put your face on the internet while breaking the law

  • Formation flying is ok if you have the other pilot's permission.

  • Haha - nice video. Bit silly sticking it on youtube though - you have your face and the plane registrations on there!! Oh well, if you haven't been busted yet i guess you're ok.

  • lol nice job

  • "have you been in a cockpit before no sir i've never been up in a plane before" i always hear this over my FsPassengers.

  • I've seen a grown man naked

  • lol

  • I love the opening line

  • sweet low level flying i would hate to lose an engine down there

  • anywhere in that area for that matter

  • They probaly got their licenses taken away

  • Nice flying! I particularly liked the location. Beautiful! I agree you have to bend the rules and live a little. If you kill yourself doing something you enjoy it is better than dieing old and board without a single interesting story in your life.

  • Hey dummy, what if he kills someone else (like on the ground)? By the looks of this, the pilot and his buddies will be doing this again and again until someone bites it. I know this was taken in rural areas, but when will he bend the rules when there are people in other airplanes or on the ground.

    Just stupid in my opinion!

  • I would suggest you take it off you tube as the authority might get a hold of it and...

  • looks fun

  • Comment removed

  • everyone talking about its a bad place for an engine failure blah blah look around its a heavily wooded forest the most practical place to land is probably gonna be along the shore in shallow water any way....pitch for best glide throw some flaps in dont get hit in the face with the yoke.

  • wow!nice video!

  • anyone know where this is? pretty nice place to fly

  • Nice flying :) I listened with the audio muted the first time and enjoyed it more, never seen Cessnas flown like that before. Must try it someday with the transponder off :)

  • If would have been better if there were no Star Wars refrences...

  • lol

  • very cool!!

  • i fly in the southwest desert (usa). i laughed because it was the "film" and the corny story line. good job with the sound track. i have a film of us buzzing cows. that was 20 years ago with some hee haw music. funny

  • Sweet vid man.

  • Why does it not surprise me this is in America...

  • it's not... Those are Canadian tail numbers. US numbers start with the letter "N". Nice video though. However, bad place for an engine failure.

  • Great vid! Funny to me.

The registration of the 172 isn't American. I believe this was taken up in Canada.

  • Yep! I'm fairly certain that matches Canadian registration.

  • where did U guys learned to fly??

  • Cessna Dogfight!!!!

  • yay for breaking "500 feet agl" rule!!! dont worry, lol, ive done it too. the pilots who havent dont have the balls. just keep that tail number hidden.

  • yay, I've done it too! It's awesomely fun like :P

  • not sure where your from but up here there is no 500 feet agl rule. As long as you are over an unpopulated area you are allowed to fly as low as u like here in washington. Over tree's water you name it. This video isnt american btw

  • american FAA rule states that you are not allowed to fly lower then 500 feet above any person, buildings etc...in this case, where u arent over anything, you are supposed to fly high enough where an engine failure or emergency, you may make an emergency landing without undue hazards to persons or property....that includes the plane...but thats in gay ass america, where they are tight about that..i still break that reg once in a while...just turn the transponder off

  • or to stby in which case it will only send out your code and not your altitude

  • good point

  • stdby sends no info, mode A no altitude, mode C sends altitude

  • natural selection is letting us down

  • great vid guys, looks like you were having fun in a place where your probably the only planes that have used that space for 10 years

jdlemme is probably a overweight fat bastard who does nothing but use his time to fabricate some lame ass burn, these guys were having fun, really, i would do it if i had a plane! get a life dude!

  • lol, youtube comment wars, a vid about planes, and 4 freinds having fun with them,i scroll down to read comments like "hey ive done that!" or "hey you guys be carefull!" and there are these two morons,a 15 year old and some old guy dukin itout over a bus or somthing, analy rape eachother elsewhere this is a coments section for videos, not for two guys who dont have enough balls in real life to actually say these things to poeple, and need to think about it for 10 mins to make some lame ass burn!?!

  • hey jackass get a fucking life, your the mistake here, you dont have any fucking manners, jackass, and who agrees with me and the whole getting hit with the bus thing with this guy >:/ aslo im probly smarter then you you piece of shit, hell your brains a fucking shrivled nut, probly bc its not being put to use.

  • also i bet you dont even have a fucking pilots license bc you FAILED so much, hell they probly dont even let on an airline jet bc they are afraid you will make the plane fail just bc of your presence.

  • These guys are fucking stupid for even trying this shit. If they even DO have FAA pilot's licenses, they should be REVOKED and never allowed to fly again....this shit is why people die in air accidents. Morons

  • hey douche, stfu they r just having fun besides, this is not y people die jackass, its bc of the pilots who think they are better then everyone else and loose consentration. so y dont u go fuck your self in a corner and stop judging people for wat u cant do :P

  • Yeah, ok...retard, and I guess you took YOUR FAA Flight Examiner on this type of flight then huh? You ain't shit, so go fly your fucking FLIGHT SIMULATOR cock-stain.

  • um im 15, dumbass :P, now whos the jackass (YOU) god i hope u get hit bya bus and i bet u everyone agrees wiht em on that 1. also work on your fucking manners douche.

  • EXACTLY.....You're 15 fucking years old....You are just a cum stain in your momma's panties....Why don't you go back to school where you FAIL everything (cause you are in Special Ed) and fly your piece of shit Cessna in Flight Sim X, and talk to me when you actually hit puberty, you no-good MISTAKE of a CHILD......

  • i give you guys props for flying this low...i would do it...

  • lol

  • GCKA your callsing has been noted and reported to the FAA/NTSB lol.... Nice vid!

  • why didn't you shoot him down? You had the chance!

  • lol

  • Crazy and stupid, but exciting! I should do something like this at some point. When I have A LOT more experience. :-)

  • Jaja Great Video! I`m pilot to. Fly Lo, enjoy, but be careful! jaja

  • lol sweet as i love the way how uv made the video with the star wars theme lol

  • Hmm....I doubt a paintball gun would have the muzzle velocity to reach the other guy...but hey go for it! Need to animate in some tracer fire.....it may be possible to hang some "police tape" out the window and let the props chew it up....this was done with R/C planes back in the day.

  • THE CESSNA EXELLENT AIRPLANES.

  • Of course, you very right.

    For me only Cessna!

  • ^^ I Make it too here on Brazil, but more you can put your life and in other hands

  • Looks like this was a fun day of shooting... good thing you didn't lose an engine at such low altitude!

  • their number starts wth C- i think thats a canadian airplane. I would love to fly there

  • i enjoyed this clip. well done

  • try a cirrus

  • what i have thought is to install paintball machine guns on the cessna that i fly and play dogfights with other student pilots.imagine that!that would be so fun don't you think guys?

  • cool vid, too bad 3/4 of the comments are from NTSB and/or FAA wannabies ;)

  • Dumb .. but classic .. I have seen 70s movies that are the same quality ..

  • Oh- Canadian registrations... that explains it.. Lol- JK great vid!

  • we love f'kn' around in the interior. :)

  • Funny, but stupid.

  • Thats and Edmonton Flying Club a/c. or at least it used to be.

  • lavosa: adobe premiere. this was made over 5 years ago.

  • haha great vid buddy!:D

  • what is the program of you use to edit the video?

  • Ya i saw a wheel good finding braniffstyle

  • What?

  • Jesus 2:19!

  • That looks like amazing fun! Great flying, if a little dangerous. I'm pretty sure they're not violating anything by it.

    Fly Safe!

  • Ahh, that brings back some memories. Being young pilots, some are more susceptible to having their sense of reason trumped by the sheer adrenaline surges that flying produces, especially at low altitudes. For me though, the FAA suspended my Pvt. Cert. for 1 year. Even afterwards, only until I veered away from a slanted radio tower support line @ 300 AGL at the last moment did I finally tell myself I was done. Although there's no denying low flying is fun, I wouldn't gloat about it online.

  • Unfortunately, especially in this day and age...

  • Hmm... after the war is over my friends and I are gonna try this. One of my buddies has a 172, One has a piper cherokee, and I have an Ercoupe. I think i can outrun them with 2 engions. still great vid man, ballsey flying.

  • Ercoupes don't have 2 engines; Hell, they don't even have rudder pedals!

  • OMFG!!! It's Darth Maule! *Groan*

    Use the GPS, Luke...

That's not Montana...the plane was Canadian. That must've been Alberta or something...Skimming the mighty Athabasca! *Sigh* I love Alberta!

  • lol cool

  • LMFAO

  • proof you dont need a fighter plane to have fun!!

  • That 's some pretty stupid shit...... Ever think you might have your LIC taken away!

  • yup, got that tail number alright. let me know when you get something in the mail telling you whether or not it's legal :D

  • first of all nothing was illegal in that video I suggest you consult the most up to date far aim. second of all even with a tail number that plane could have ben rented/sold many times since this

  • Atleast they're not in a residential area. The only people they can hurt are themselves. Relax

  • ya im pretty sure the rule is 500 feet from populated areas and buildings

  • Actually it is 1000 feet above the highest obstacle in Populated areas. 500 feet is in Rural and sparse areas.

  • this whole state is rural so 500 hundred it is...welcome to Montana

  • Witty response! Thumbs up for you!

  • I admit this was a pretty damn funny video, but be careful pressing your luck....try flying that low and having a mechanical failure or hitting some power lines..

  • sweet

  • I believe the FAR's (i know they were in canada) state that in a sparsely populated area you have to be 500' away from any person, vehicle, or structure. If they wanted to they could have splashed the gear in the water and still have been legal. That is as long as that rule is the same as in the U.S.

  • I enjoyed watching it! When you're young you don't worry about all the dangers that the CFIs and other pilots seem to be worried about. Every pilot knows it's safer never to take on flying in the first place. Each and every one of them, at one point in time or another, has felt these dangers. Post more videos!

  • Canada, Eh?

  • As a CFI, there is nothing at all illegal here or unsafe here. It is actually pretty lame and not worthy of posting here. I thought it would be much better.

  • Surley this was illegal? Don't you have some sort of 500 feet from any person, vehicle, vessle or structure rule like in the UK?

  • over more populated areas

  • In England that Rule applied everywhere. Over Populated areas you must fly at 1,000 or high enough to land clear, whichever higher, and anywhere in the country you must be 500 feet from any person, vehicle, vessle or structure. In this video the two planes are closer than 500 feet, and there are people on the ground which the planes must be 500 feet from at all times. Is this the case in the US?

  • Yup

  • you have two ways of flying close like that...

    1) You could fly in formation with the other aircraft

    or

    2) If you are under the radar... no one will ever find out, therefore you are in the clear.

FYI : You could fly 100 feet over the ground if you wanted over a non populated area, but there cannot be any caribou, in Canada that is :p hehehe.

  • or fur farms...gotta watch out for them fur farms...

  • That is true kid! 500 feet over fur farms, you could tell by the Yellow/Black roofing pattern!

  • hehe, looks a tad scarey (coming from a PPL student) but awesum fun! Me wanna try ;)

  • really people...whoevers says this is dangerous needs to shutup. No i'm not condoning what they did just that if you think about it, it's more dangerous to go out and drive your car than this. at least we know what we are doing up there. any idiot can get a drivers license.

  • that looks like a blast!

  • and in the event of an engine failure they could have easily ditched in the river and probably walk away

  • wow u guys are bein pretty rough on them

look at it this way, think of how different aviation would be if no one ever had the balls to push the limits of an airplane? hell with that sort of thinking wilbur and orville would have just stuck to building bicycles

they definitely did get a lil closer than 500' to the surface but lets face it they were out in the middle of nowhere and put no one elses lives or property at risk which is the important thing

  • Idiots.....

Oh how I wish you would have had a nice wind shear over that river.....

  • There was windshear over the river, and the aircraft buffeted +/- 5 feet quite often. It was dangerous - this has been established.

  • i soloed my 16th birthday a month or so ago, its the best feeling ever.

  • Honestly the people on here who say these "punks" are dangerous etc are just a bunch of whiners. nothing wrong with what they were doing. I thought it was a funny video.

  • i can see you are canadian by your planes tail. Isn't flying that low in contravention of the CARs?

  • Pretty cool, but very stupid. These punks shouldn't be allowed to pilot aircraft.

  • Gosh old men never stop com-plane-ing!

  • who cares if they don't mind taking a chance...it is their lives. And I didn't see anything illegal about that. Be awefully boring taking off and going up to 5000' all the time.

  • the neginning of this is great!!!! nice flying!!!!

  • You people claim that low maneuvering flight might not be illegal, but that kind of flying is really a stupid thing to do. What happens if you loose your engine, go into an accelerated stall or strike an obstruction?

  • @cessnaN89358: I absolutely agree. Losing the engine at those altitudes, and over that type of terrain, would definitely be fatal. It's a good example of why many 19-year-olds shouldn't be allowed to privately pilot aircraft.

That being said, it was one *hell* of a lot of fun at the time. And I was hung over, even. Luckily, I wasn't piloting the aircraft. :)

  • ITS NOT ABOUT AGE I SOLOED AT 16,and maybie buzzed a flat cow field once. Its these certain guys are immature for their age. I will say he had good maneuvering skills to keep it in the river

  • Without creating hazard and within gliding distance to a safe landing area. If transport saw that youd have CARS so far up your backside you wouldnt need to worry about the 500' rule. Technically pushing the rules

  • haha awesome video!

  • Next time shoot them down.

    Marian Blakey FAA.

  • Kids: I have been flying light aircraft for 27 years, Lots of time in Cessnas,Beech,Piper over 2 K hours now, instrumnet rated, with much actual...some acro.... You want to know how stupid this is??? Have a close one and you will wake up...

  • I love all the posts pointing out the FAR's last time I noticed an aircraft with the designation starting with C (Charlie) was a Canadian aircraft....

  • Charile-Golf Charlie Kilo Alpha

  • "maintain an altitude that allows for an emergency landing" comes to mind....

  • awesome video. unfortunately, i'm going to have to report this to the FAA.

  • Get a life. The FAA has no jurisdiction IN CANADA!!!!!

  • i love this video. haha.

  • Aweomse video, you're a bit crazy aswell.

  • U guys must be crazy!!! ;)

I saw ur vid via a net!

  • I didn't note anything dangerous in this video. It all seemed very benign. The editing, replay of the river scene and the music make is seem far worse than it is. Formation flying? Big deal!

  • I agree..all sound and fury signifying nothing.

  • I spent a lot of years flying SAR missions in the Civil Air Patrol looking for pilots just like you. I all about having funwhile flying, but not at the ex!pense of safety

  • ya that was several corny but pretty funny

  • i see an aluminum shower in your future

  • Thanks, you guys keep the Civil Air Patrol in business!

  • hahaha fantastic!! like the other person posted.. good use of imagination...the music really fit with the action taking place!!.. hats off to you boys. plz make another!!!
