OMG i dont what to say I agree with some of what tsayoga7 is saying i also have concerns .But at the same time you need a guide in making an regalia-not a costume....... your heart is in the right place & i thank you for your
@44Thekhan Eagle feathers carry very high honor among my people and are gifted to someone of special character or achievement. You obviously have very little knowledge of Native American customs or the honor that they carry. How many eagle feathers do you carry around with you?
@lonewolf13scott umm i dont carry them around with me, i keep them PROPERLY put away when im not using them at a POW WOW and eagle feathers are given to people who earn them, ive been a northern traditional dancer for over 12 years now been across the country to numerous pow wows so dont wanna go there with the native american customs oh and the number of feathers i have.... i have 3 different bustles, 2 eagle wing fans and random loose ones for my roach and staff etc.
@lonewolf13scott Both doyigodvi and I share some of the same concerns about your channel and videos, including: the regalia you use; the naming ceremony; the unusual spelling of Cherokee words; and your taking an elder's role by giving guidance. At least you admit that you're following your heart rather than the ways of a Cherokee tribe. BTW, I've known doyigodvi and his family for several years. He doesn't have a CDIB and never will. His 7/8 comment is based on information from his part
Irish American grandmother, who is a genealogist. Until he returned from Iraq, he followed his parents’ teaching to never take money for his dancing. He now donates all competitive pow wow prize money to a fund for family members of U.S. service members killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, and encourages others to do the same.
@lonewolf13scott You posted your tirade in response to what @doyigodvi wrote but refuse to let him respond. Is this what you do whenever someone questions your being Cherokee or challenges your so-called knowledge and authority? Some people will go to any length to save face, including blocking accounts. I pity you and anyone who believes the nonsense you spout. I fully expect you to post something about this comment dishonoring the "true spirit" and block me, too.
@tsayoga7 I corresponded back and forth many times with DOYLGODVI. He chose to not only insult me but my Grandfather and to be honest he insults all 1st Nations people by using his Government card to identify himself. I choose not to believe what the government calls me but what my heart speaks. He dishonored my family I have no more words for him. I will not block you by the way unless you do the same as him. It is not nonsense to listen to ones heart
@lonewolf13scott Thanks for your reply. Intertribal pow wows do have different dance styles (Northern, Southern, jingle, etc.) but people don't wear regalia or traditional clothing that looks something another tribe wears. Whoever taught you that was wrong. It's disrespectful not honoring. I’m 7/8 Cherokee and an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. I was brought into the Circle when I was very young. My elders, tribe, clan, and family taught me Cherokee ways.
Some of them also taught me about pow wows. Nobody taught me to wear clothing resembling what other tribes wear or dance a style that wasn’t right for Cherokees. They taught me the exact opposite. I’ve danced in at least 150 intertribal, traditional and competition pow wows in the U.S. and Canada, and haven’t seen anything like what you say is done except in boy scout and other non-Native events. The videos you posted show you participating in events held by social organizations not tribes,
which explains all the turkey and fake eagle feathers. The social groups include: the Anderson hobbyist group; the non-profit group calling itself the Miami Tribe of Indiana; and the National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture, a non-profit organization. These groups only require an interest in Native American culture and fee payment to join or participate in their events. I doubt you or your costume would ever be challenged at that type of event. You'd be thrown out of real
Native American pow wows if you wore your bustle costume and told people you’re Cherokee. The bustle costume and your claim to be Cherokee are annoying but your attempt to name others is very offensive. The video shows you with fake eagle feathers announcing the names of “Thunder Fox” and “Strong Wolf Warrior”. This isn’t how Cherokees are given a name. We don’t reveal the name to everyone like you did by posting the video. We also don’t say what you did when you tried to speak Cherokee.
@doyigodvi Your words are a dishonor to the Cherokee people as a whole. I assume you are a CARD CARRYING CHEROKEE. By this I mean that the US government (the same government that tried to destroy the Nations recognizes you) Congrats on that. Sorry I dont owe them my loyalty. By saying what you said you dishonor the memory of my Grandfather. Something a person true of spirit would not do. By the way competitive dancing is a dishonor to all tribes. Showing off is not the Pow Wow spirit
@doyigodvi I do not PLAY Cherokee. It is what is in my heart. I spent 12 years in private schools getting my butt kicked for trying to live like my Grandfather taught me. There are many bands of Cherokee I am sure you CHOOSE not to recognize. That is your business but DO NOT EVER insult my family as you have done. The pride I have and share is of all Native Nations as a people. I do not carry false pride in my self as you do. Good luck competing.
@doyigodvi By the way I trace my Cherokee heritage back to the 1st Cherokee Mtd Rifleman of the Confederacy. I know the names of my relatives that fought for them. I'm sure if I went to a Civil War re-enactment you would object to that too. To be honest I choose to believe in my Grandfather and my heart. Not some pissed off Cherokee that dances for prizes
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE CHEROKEE MESSAGE IS. FOR ONE THING TRADITIONAL CHEROKEE DO NOT WEAR BUSTLES AND AND VERY RARELY DO YOU SEE US WEAR FEATHERS AT ALL, UNLESS IN A TIME OF WAR. SO FOR YOU TO SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT IS VERY INACCURATE.
@1HONDOWHISPERINGBULL Daaannnggg! I keep forgetting to wear my genuine "Cherokee" bustle when I dance. That thing's great for wannabe dances but I'd be thrown out on my ass if I wore that in a real pow-wow. There's no reason for a Cherokee to wear a bustle; we don't dance northern style. Cherokee, NC tourist shows excepted. Besides, the bustle has LAKOTA colors in the center. The Cherokee/Lakota confusion seems to be a very common wannabe thing. Take a look at his "Pow Wow Preparation" video.
@1HONDOWHISPERINGBULL The Lakota/Cherokee mash-up is also in his Anderson Pow Wow 2010 video. He's wearing a bustle and dancing a so-called southern round dance.
@doyigodvi Inter-tribal Pow Wows most often have everyone dancing many different types of dancing. It is a way to share our experiences. Sorry that this offends you. Tho the Pow Wow is not even a part of Cherokee culture my grandfather taught and encouraged me at a very young age to participate and embrace all 1st Nations traditions. I lost him many years ago and struggle to remember his words but I try to honor him at these events
I can't believe you MADE these! they are great! I love them both! I like the new one best, its got a lot more color in it, but the old one is amazing too! I truly love them both :)
i love the colors of the new one and the paw prints. Much thought and artistic ability...very beautiful. The music is great, thanks for telling who the artist is + the song name. Peace + health to you and your family.....
agree with thenumber1iceman, real feathers, your new bustle looks great. i like the colors but on the bottom you could fill in that little gap there. Just so it doesnt look like wings. Other than that. awsome
The new bustle appeals to me more. ~ It looks like you've got a little dot of something on your camera lens, located in the lower-mid part of the lower-left quadrant of the screen.
I would just throw them in the trash and not tell any real natives that I would make something so dreadful!!!
