@meursault48 Actually, if you read the book by George Crile III, it describes him as a lobbyist for Pakistan following his retirement from Congress. This was years after the war ended...AFTER he had lobbied hard to get help into Afghanistan by proposing a multi-million dollar relief package that was tossed aside. Since the Cold War was over and reshuffling within the State Dept. was a main priority-and eyes shifting towards Eastern Europe, Charlie did what he could.

He also advocated money to be spent ($1 million) for the reconstruction of schools after the war was over, he never got that money. Hence the weapons that he had "funnelled" were in the hands of people who didnt know what to do next. I dont think he can be blamed for that.
