mpcp13: The whole concept of the "Time War" is a joke, anyway. Who really isn't meant to be dissected like that. I mean, if we assume that all the Daleks and Time Lords were wiped out from *time* -- as was originally suggested -- then the Doctor televised past should be completely different... yet anyone who was around remembers it going down exactly as seen on the screen (see SJS).

Hey, I'm just posting the reasons why even I got tired of seeing the Daleks. And explanation of why I considered said reasons a Deus ex Machina after someone said they weren't technically a DEM.

My opinions, stated to clarify after someone else's reply. No one has to share 'em. Nor does that mean I don't enjoy the show as a whole.

Seriously, they've been overused as a plot device. It kinda cheapens them since, time and time again, blatant Deus Ex Machina is the excuse as to why they're back.

Oh dear you used the D word - DEM refers to the resolution of a plot, not the mere inclusion of a story element. As we haven't seen the episodes yet, how can you know it employs a DEM?

Using the modern meaning which states that it "is a plot device whereby a previously intractable problem is suddenly and abruptly solved with a contrived introduction of a new character, ability, or object."

Intractable problem = the Doctor's supposed to have eliminated all of them in the Time War. Then it turns out one somehow survived to be captured by van Staten. Then it turns out an entire Dalek fleet was hurled out of the destruction of the Time War. (continued)

Then come the Cult of Skaro with the heretofore unmentioned ability to create a void ship and exist out of time, as well as having the ability to "emergency temporal shift." Then Caan somehow managed to force his way through a time lock, which was first stated to be "unchangeable." Then after Caan pulls out Daleks from the time lock (also previously stated to be undoable), he propmtly plans to wipe the Daleks from all existence. Now, somehow, they're still there in the next season. (continued)
