  • marxist rule is coming........pelosi will be unelected and refuse to give up her seat and then invoke marxism in the usa!!

  • How's that one-party rule working for you these days?

  • It's the independent vote that matters and come November this year the democrats are going to be in serious trouble. It's been much worse then i thought it would be.

  • Shiiiitt I guess that guy would have lost his 401k, huh?

  • the United States already has, effectively speaking, a one-party system. It doesn't matter if it's the Republicans or the Democrats, as long as the United States has what poorly passes as a two-party system, the effective reality is that the dual monopoly the Republicans & Democrats have over American politics allows for little outside opinion.

  • The term one party rule is meant to imply that one party has the house, the senate, and the presidency.

  • The risk?

    Things will actually get DONE!

  • Things got DONE alright.

Unemployment went from 6.85 to 10%

Deficit went from 500 billion to 1.4 trillion.

How''s that HOPE and CHANGE working for you a year later?

  • @dalmatian847 Well, if disagreements were resolved by snappy, simplistic one-liners, I guess then you would win. However we live in a world that still accepts facts and argument as a way of getting to the truth. You claim that the deficit has increased from $500 billion to $1 trillion; however, you don't show from when to when. Are you including the Bush administration? Since I know that he increased the deficit tremendously, by cutting taxes for the rich and ramping up spending.

  • @Toocold I live in a world of reality where the unemployment ratewhas gone to near 10% and holding for a year AFTER Obama promised it wouldn't go over 8% after his stimulus package was approved. This spike in unemployment was achieved WHILE adding anther trillion to the deficit. Nice trick.

What world are you living in?

  • @dalmatian847 The ongoing financial crisis, which Bush responded to by giving $700 billion to banks and businesses (the biggest gift of taxpayer money in U.S. history), was also a major cause of the massive increase in the deficit. (If it had been up to me, I would have let the irresponsible bastards drink strychnine.) Considering that said crisis has caused massive unemployment, and how we are still in its grips, I don't see how either of your points (if true) are the current president's fault.

  • @Toocold Wouldn't those TARP bailouts be what Obama likes to take credit for? Why I do beleive it is. In fact, the only things that have actually worked under Obama have been continuations of Bush policies. What have been abject failures, like the so-called "stimulus" package that's stimulated nothing while adding another $trillion to the deficit are all Obama's handiwork.

  • @Toocold BTW, this just in from AP, the Obama job stimus continues to work it's magic.

WASHINGTON - Job creation by private companies grew at the slowest pace of the year in May, even while the hiring of temporary census workers drove overall payrolls up 431,000.

  • Unnecessary Debate? DEBATE IS NECESSARY.

What on earth do they need to get policy through for? They aren't there to pass laws every day of the week and twice on Sunday, people. Lack of action isn't necessarily a bad thing, and neither is conservatism. This Party vs Party war they've got you participating in is keeping you all away from the real issues.

There should be more than 2 parties so we CAN have real debate and so that they can't collude as easily as they do today.

  • Dems still won't control the Judicial branch so it will never reach the kind of monopoly that the Bush Republicans had up until 2006. And since then it has pretty much 50-50, and look where that got us?

  • Yes, it got us from less than 5% unemployment to over 10%.

  • One Party Rule over Congress, Senate, and white house = End of America. the end of a voice for the normal citizen

  • You been living in a cave for the last 8 years? We've had one-party rule since 2001 and have only had a bi-partisan government for the last two, but the GOP simply voted as a block.

  • no i haven't lived in a cave. I am a libertarian and i just don't simply trust either of the two parties. Also, i might add, not everything that has occurred over the last years is simply the fault of one man. A president isn't the same as either a dictator or a king.

  • One party rule is never a good thing, no matter the political party. Bush and a Repub Congress spent like drunken sailors. Do people really want an Obama and Pelosi government without checks and balances? They will legislate to the advantage of radical fringe groups and will fuel the flames of inflation as they spend freely on entitlement programs. Wage earners will be subsidizing the lifestyles of the work-averse through higher taxes, "spreading the wealth".

  • Obamanomics cant be nearly as bad as Bushonomics.Iam sick of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.Iam ready for CHANGE

    now.

  • I was wondering....do you think we still need that windfall profit tax on the gas and oil companies? It will be a bitch slap for sleeping and doing drugs with the Bush administration, but gas prices seriously went down already and it keep on going down and down and down....

  • to answer your posit...."Heres my question to you: Whats the risk of one party controlling Congress and the White House?"

It depends on the morals of the people that take control. I think it is grotesquely unfair to tar the Democrats with the brush the Reps created with their drunken sailor on shore leave imitation during their recent stint. There may be a down side to their controlling everything, but I know that it could never be one tenth as bass-ackwards as what we just suffered through.

  • Good. That's the half of the country responsible for the economy, war and our lowered standing in the world.

  • Republicans will make a fantastic loyal opposition. They've been drunk with power for 8 years, and Americans are serving them up the humility they need.

If W/Cheney had never happened, I might feel differently, but they did happen.

  • I'm not American, I'm (slightly) pro-Democrat, but I find this news concerning. It's very important that all laws passed have at least some semblance of bi-partisan agreement. To see only Democrat laws going through the Senate and the House of Representatives would almost seem to negate the fact that some people, a lot of people, voted Republican... Almost half the country is being ignored. And that's Democracy?

  • So what. It will take such a situation to reverse the damage of 30 years of deregulatory insanity.

  • Don't worry. They won't be able to be in complete control and the judicial branch will still be half-half essentially, no matter what Obama does. Hell, Obama is not even an actual hard core liberal. Look at his health care policy for one thing.
