That's honestly terrible. What a horrible way to end your life. I don't think that anyone should have to end their lives like that. It's not something we should joke about or talk lightly about. It's a serious topic, and it's honestly frightening that someone could be pushed to the edge to kill themselves. My heart goes out to all of them and their families.

Here in the U.S. we would definitely make it illegal to go into the forest, perhaps patrol it, and threaten people with fines. Japan has wisdom enough to simply understand the nature of things much better. There are some things you can't control, and so there's no point in trying. There is no problem to solve by posting guards, fences and laws. If you want to solve this problem, look at what we are.

I am planning to commit sucide in that forrest this summer, I live in scandinavia and want to die in a peaceful exotic forrest. I will use sleeping pills because I think hanging is brutal but I think the experince will be very peaceful and full of suprise.
Nothing wrong with sucide and death if the person chooses it himself, last months before the trip to Japan I will try to enjoy life as much as I can. Drink beer, read books and so on.
Let's hope there is something intresting after death.

Here in a part of Mexico are legends, some take them as true, of people who have terminal illnesses like cancer and go into the forest/mountains to die there and within months they come back healthy and cured, most likely because while their exile into the forest they ate whatever kind of herbs and roots or just because they attribute it to nature or something. My point is doesn't it happen here in Aokigahara Forest?
@zervver Aokigahara forest has just about always been a place of death. Poor families, i would assume in past centuries would abandon elderly people there to die, and young children whom they couldn't afford to feed. It has long been rumored as haunted by demons and goblins, pretty much, no, it's a place of death.

My uncle passed away about 3 months ago with Pancreatic cancer, seeing him suffer in pain for months in a hospital bed and ask every day if there was anything that they could do to save him makes me sick to see people want to end their life. If you are thinking of killing yourself, because you think you have it bad go to a hospital for a day and visit with someone who was just told they have only a few months to live and sitt and watch them tell their family goodbye and still smile at everyone.

The Tokai nature path runs right through the forest and school groups and others use it all the time. The forest is beautiful.
When you have terminal illness like I am, you will understand that life is meaningful and life worth every second to live for...Life is the most precious thing in this universe, not all things were created to live to love and for that we need to respect and live our lives to the fullest. If you are thinking about suicide, talk to the three closest people to you. Explain your thoughts deeply and let all of them know exactly what you are feeling. Then, talk to two people outside of your normal circle. The best would be a counselor, therapist, or social worker. Someone who can listen to you and connect with you and your soul in a new way. Only then will you truly know if life is worth living, and I believe in every case, it is.

Here in a part of Mexico are legends, some take them as true, of people who have terminal illnesses like cancer and go into the forest/mountains to die there and within months they come back healthy and cured, most likely because while their exile into the forest they ate whatever kind of herbs and roots or just because they attribute it to nature or something. My point is doesn't it happen here in Aokigahara Forest?

Poor families, i would assume in past centuries would abandon elderly people there to die, and young children whom they couldn't afford to feed. It has long been rumored as haunted by demons and goblins, pretty much, no, it's a place of death.

My uncle passed away about 3 months ago with Pancreatic cancer, seeing him suffer in pain for months in a hospital bed and ask every day if there was anything that they could do to save him makes me sick to see people want to end their life. If you are thinking of killing yourself, because you think you have it bad go to a hospital for a day and visit with someone who was just told they have only a few months to live and sitt and watch them tell their family goodbye and still smile at everyone.

I am sad to see people commit suicide because of temporary problems like bullying, but when someone has something like a mental illness or scars from abuse that will never fade, all they are trying to do is end the pain that will last them a lifetime. I am not saying suicide is the answer, but try to be more understanding and sympathetic to their plight.

@Chocolatrazz It's crazy to think of abandoning a loved one as a solution to anything, but I'm not sure this actually happened on a large scale. From what I've read there are a few poems about this phenomenon & many people took them to mean that is was a common practice. In school we learned that the Cherokee Native Americans did the same thing, but I've never heard/seen/read anything about this since Jr. High, so I doubt it's true.

The Yakuza does not pay anyone to come here, and the people who die here do not leave anything like money. The people who are perpetuating the "treasure box forest" myth are full of BS. Actually there are quite a few people who do think this is a good place to commit suicide and the local government and self help groups routinely canvas the area to try to help people. The Tokai nature path runs right through the forest and school groups and others use it all the time. The forest is beautiful.

It's pains me to see people that committed suicide, especially when they are 100% healthy, because they could help the world and do so much for this planet. If you are thinking about suicide, talk to the three closest people to you. Explain your thoughts deeply and let all of them know exactly what you are feeling. Then, talk to two people outside of your normal circle. The best would be a counselor, therapist, or social worker. Someone who can listen to you and connect with you and your soul in a new way. Only then will you truly know if life is worth living, and I believe in every case, it is.

You may not want to accept it, but people love you, and need you, even if they aren't as readily available when you need them. Take a deep breath, watch some videos of kittens, and talk to someone when you can properly articulate your thoughts. You'll be glad you did.
