  • Thanks a lot!

  • Thanks so much, Exactly what I needed to know!

  • Is Sony Vegas Video anywhere near Sony Vegas Pro 8? If it isn't then i wasted my time watching this, because im not downloading another video edditing program.

  • it is dont worry

  • thanxx this helps alot.

    what about adding objects though??

  • what program did you use? also the crazy cat thing is corny lol

  • This was done with Sony Vegas Video and yes, the cat is corny.

  • hello can u make a vid for me on how to make a sony vegas

  • I like Mac Better they are faster better for video edeting i like them better

  • macs suck burn ur pc and also they are slow.

  • What if the person moves his head to the other side of the screen, away from the censor? Does that mean I have to do the whole thing over again every time the person moves!?

  • Yes, you would have to follow the section of the screen you want blurred out unless you wanted to blur everything on the screen.

  • Can I do this with windows movie maker?

  • Unfortunetly no. Movie maker is pretty limited.

  • ummm program?

  • Sony Vegas Video.

  • Or, you could buy a decent program like adobe after effects and motion track the face!

  • I have tried adobe and it totally rocks. Bit harder learning curve though but worth it for the features.

  • I managed to blur the portion I wanted, how do I saved the full video because there are two separate tracks?

  • I'm not sure I totally understand. When you render it should render all tracks at the same time.

  • Unfortunately, it didn't. I did render it but the file ended up being so small and there was just a black screen. I'm really frustrated here.

  • Okay. Lets check a few things. Did you mute the other tracks? If so unmute them. Also, when you rendered did you uncheck the render loop region only?

  • You said the file was really small. Do you mean the video was small or you could only see the portion you rendered?

  • I don't even know where that check is. I had to shut off my computer so it was lost. I could have saved it but I didn't. I'll try it again.

Aside from making sure to uncheck the render loop region, is there anything else I have to do to save both tracks?

    Thanks for your help. :)

  • No, not really. As long as none of the tracks are GREYED out (which means they are muted) it should be fine.

  • Thanks, I'm crossing my fingers.

  • thanks for the vid..but you tone is extremly annoying

  • Umm, thanks.

  • lol, sorry just had get get that out... geat video never the less

  • Thank you very much, I recently got a black mark from youtube due to a video of mine. Now I can get it reuploaded xD

  • thanks so much! ive always wanted to learn how to do this, and now i can use it in my new video! <3 I'll credit it you in it as a token of my gratitude lol

  • NP, glad you enjoyed it!

  • ucan get vegs for free lol

  • lol i thought that was mt cellphone

  • hehehe.

  • awesome guide,vegas rules

  • Thank you.

  • awesome guide,vegas rules

  • Is this Sony Vegas? becuase i need something to blur a portion of info for a game id that i have that im making a tut for people! haha so can u help me out of tell me any other good ones that r free or free trials?! ty and byby

  • Yes, this is sony vegas. You can download the trial version for free. Also, since this tutorial I've found that Mask works much better but it does take a bit more time to use. As for free software there are several apps availible but I don't know that any will give you what you want since I haven't really tried them.

  • Oh geez. Shouldn't you use keyframes rather than split to event every time the size or location needs to change?

  • Using keyframes is the much more effective way to do this, however to keep things simple I did not to go into that much detail. You can use the hold and you could also use masking to make it more precise as well.

  • ok. thx anyway

  • Can you do this with windows movie maker 2?

  • Not that I am aware of.

  • He's using Sony Vegas. You can probably find a new copy of it on Amazon for under $30.

  • lol u wish...

  • i think he means movie studio, not pro!

  • I looked through at least 4 differen presentations and none were as good and detailed as yours...

    Thanks

  • Thanks. If you haven't already you may also want to look at the blur tutorial revisted. It's easier to understand than this one.

  • Nice tutorial (: Needed this ^^ I'm going to try it right now, hope it won't be too much work since my object moves like crazy (;

ps. I grabbed my cellphone while yours bugged your speakers a bit :x ahum.

  • I hope it works well for you. Yeah, the cell phone has caught me a few times too!

  • omg same here! lol Im like wheres my cell! and then hes like oh thats my cell lol. nice tutorial

  • what program is this?

  • Sony Vegas Video.

  • Hello, First of all Id like to say thank you for such a great tut. I have a question though about the censoring. Could you censor more than one object like a face and a t-shirt. Sorry if you have already stated this but I'm kinda new to this program and don't understand some of the features ^^;.

(just letting you know I started video editing and stuff today lol)

  • First, thanks for the comment. Second, it is possible to do but would require multiple layers. So in this tutorial I just had two layers. One for the blur and one for the clear area. You would need to add a second blur layer above. It might be helpful too if you check out the blur tutorial revisited that I did. It goes through the blurring a bit better than this one.

  • duuuuuude thank you soooo much 99999 stars!

  • You're most welcome. Thank you.

  • rendering all day for me this will take, suspecting even longer adding more than 1 duplicate video, as another answer to devo's 2nd question, then in each duplicate you can fine tune another area and shape for your blur.

  • I think it's safe to say it's this video is a bit difficult to understand because both tracks are the same. I'm going to make a quick sample using a solid screen on top for the blur. It should make much more sense.

  • I understand a little more now, transparency instead of black out in cookie cutter comes from the duplicate video track when not soloing the track you edit, blur not outside the border also may be from the duplicate whole video still showing, still working on it hopefully rendering will pick up clear video where intended unaltered by cut out blackened blur, but only the right blur where intended.

  • Good video I'm a bit confused still also though, it blacked out instead of blurred, then when trying to blur it blurred the whole screen instead of only in the border. Copy and paste I knew but thorough exact every click of the way I need at blur section time, I see a similiar confusion and answer so I'll try again.

  • I'm confused on how you get the inside of your shape to be transparent. You have a yellow bordered circle that doesn't have any color, it's transparent, mine is not. I can't figure out where I can change from a black fill to a trasparent one. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, is is possible to make custom shapes? I like the rectangle but I want to blur out and very small area. I put my rectangle size at 0.020 and I want to half it, not just make the overall size smaller.

  • As to the first question if you add blur to the top clip first it will give you a better idea of the space you are working with. Then you can actually see the blur as you change the size of your cookie cutter.

  • To the second question, Vegas doesn't have enough options when it comes to cookie cutter. You can't make a custom shape using the cookie cutter but you could use a paint program to create the shape you want blurred out and just lower the opacity to make it translucent or semi-transparent. That would give you the flexibility to make a custom blur area and to make the size anything you want. Msg me if that doesn't make sense I can send a more detailed explaination.

  • HAHAHA!! lol...i stoped the sound because i thought my phone is making the sound! :D ..anyway..cool tutorial..i subscribed to you!

  • hahaha. Hey, thanks for subscribing and the great comment.

  • I've wanted to do this lots of times man, but didn't know how. Now I do...thanks for the tutorial!

  • Very glad I was of help Daniel. I hope the summer is going well for you.

  • I amforever being told to up-grade my software but am concerned I will get carried away with the effects!!

  • To go out, and have to reinvent the wheel, just to make videos certainly isn't for everyone. You already do a great job with movie maker. Upgrading would give you more choices to be sure but I think the biggest benefit would be the improved image quality and the multiple tracks. Movie Maker already has tons of transitions so if you like what you're using stick with it.

  • The new verson has even more which I haven't played with yet - so will get my head around that first I guess

  • aww man this came in so handy! MaN i LOVE your tutorials, keep them up!

  • I really like hearing that!

  • Thanks so much!!

  • Thanks budd!

  • Hi Pookie. I don't have that software but I've always wondered how that technique was accomplished. Thanks. -jim

  • No Problem

  • This is a great help for a lot of youtubers, wicked!!

  • I sure hope so, dudeanwalker.

  • it's interesting to see that done in a very different program. In the one I use, it's done with something called object curve effects where you adjust the movement and size of the concealer on the timeline.

  • What program are you using David?

  • Magix Movie Edit Pro 11.

  • I'll have to check it out.

  • err got any beers

  • Yes I do. We always have a stock of beer on hand!

  • Great video, Pookie! Thanks for using my video as an example! Yay!!

    -- Matt

  • No problem Matt. I appreciate you letting me use it. I had to put Crazy Cat Pete at the start... I really like his character.

  • haha when the cell phone interference came in i moved my phone, i love watching these even though i dont use vegas

  • ROFL! I wonder how many people will do the same thing?

  • Thank you! Now I know what I've been doing wrong; in some of the videos where I have tried to just blur my face, I've done really awful things TO my face just - sometimes my nose and eyes look really really wierd - thank you for this technique; I had not yet mastered it!

  • No Problem MotherReiver. It was a rather simple version of how to blur but once you get this down, then you can play around with the settings to make it suit your needs better.
