  • This was such a sad video when I first saw it. Now I'm so happy for you that you are back in business!!!! Rock on John!!

  • Well if theres anything else you haven't done a video of please do as many as possible please!!!!

  • Nooooooo, I watch these videos all the time. Sooo sad. Where I live these sort of garages have all gone long ago, and I just joined a mgb club and the only people who actually do work on their cars are in the late 70's.

  • Sorry to see you close. Unfortfortunately I only just found out about your videos. Thanks for posting all your videos. At least these will be around for posterity. Fortunately my local British car garage in Southern New England is very busy, even these rough economic times, otherwise I would not still have my MGBGT. Good luck on your future endevors, and maybe I'll meet you at one of the shows some day

  • what a pity ,garages like this should be saved,,but that is progress i gess ,well good luck lads

  • sorry to see this great team close the garage, best wishes from great britain to you all.

  • Unfortunately this proves once again that "Good Guys Finish Last". John is the salt of the earth and as honest as the day is long... and he can't make a living! On the other hand... the crooks that we stand in line to get our service from are raking it in. Such is life...

  • Thanks for all your help, good luck

  • Hate to see your business close! Are you still gonna work on MG's?

  • Hi John: I was truly shocked to hear about you closing shop! Your passion and expertise for MG's is second to none, and sharing your knowlege so freely makes you a very unique individual and entrepreneur. Best of luck in the future.

  • Thanks for uploading these great videos which I have learnt alot about MG's. I dont own a MG but I have a 1967 Morris 1000but the basics remain the same. It will be sad not to see any more new videos which some of them made me laugh - by the way you have a great sense of humour!

All the best at U.M wishing you well for the future.

  • John, thanks for the vids. I'll miss the help. Cheers for the future. Ray

  • Hi John - I just received my Octagon magazine in Toronto and saw the notice that you were closing. Many years ago for a birthdday present my wife sent me down to Ada to attend one of your weekend courses. It was a privilege to get to meet you. I still have my 1963 MG!!

    Good luck in the future.

    Stuart Auld

  • Go well and safely John.

Just this very day your SU carb video was instrumental in getting a poorly running Rover back in fine fettle. All of the best mate, K in New Zealand.

  • Sorry to hear about this John. The videos show you as being a true gentleman and you helped me enormously with your videos in getting my MG running right. I only wish I could have given you my business. Best of luck in all your future endeavours.

  • Dear John, Best wishes and thanks for all you've done for MG and all your help throughout the years. Stay active and keep in touch. Hope to see you at shows and gatherings in coming years. You are one of a kind and you will be missed! Best 2 U,

    Fred Emig, Richmond, VA

  • Just saw this.... It´s a real shame you are having to close down sooner than expected. I loved watching your videos, your expertise and passion on such a great name as MG. I hope you have the best retirement possible and thanks for so many years of service.

  • Sorry to hear about the business John - good luck to you with future endeavors!

  • Dear John!!

    Sad to hear about that!

Anyway, many, many thanks for the great videos, your enthusiasm and the perfect informations you gave.

    God bless you!

    Karl from Austria

  • God Bless and God Speed.

  • John, Farewell to you and your crew. Totally appreciate the help you have provided. I bought ZS 175CD Airpiston with Needle from you (about a year ago).

    Aloha, UC

  • what a sad, sad day.

  • John, Just to add my thanks for a superb set of videos. I have followed you for a long time... You have been my inspiration & friendly mechanic during my '69 GT strip /rebuild. You clearly love the MG and hands on & I hope you continue to get many years more enjoyment in your e.retirement. Wish I lived in the US to be able to shake your hand and wish you all the very best. If you are ever in the UK. Come find me...

  • Thank you so much for your superb informative videos on MGB maintenance. Your contributions will be missed throughout the world.

Very best wishes for a long and happy retirement.

  • Thank you John and your crew for everything. God bless you.

  • Thank you thank you thank you for all the great videos John. I did a complete rebuild of a tatty 69B - and every time I got lost - you saved me! Your legacy is tremendous!

I am so sorry for you that the business side came to and end - but I am sure that you will continue to help others enjoy your passion and find comfort (and proifit) in it along the way.

    Warm regards,

    Andrew in Ottawa

  • John, Thank you for sharing so much MG knowledge with us sir.

  • Sad, Sad Day. I am UK and had my 'B' Roadster since new in 1978. Although only 30k miles and not needing a lot of work, age takes its toll nonetheless, and finding your videos was a real comfort and it now feels like I am left all alone now! I hope you can still contribute your knowledge with us all who aim to keep the Marque alive!

    All the very Best!

  • Like most of the other comments, its sad news to hear the shop is closing down. Your videos will be missed - they've been a great resource for this learner mechanic :-)

Will keep an eye out on MGB Experience for any updates of what you do next!

All the best for your future endeavors...from Ginny - Down Under!

  • A note of sadness from Denmark also; I have been enjoying your videos for a while before eventually buying an MG, and now have a beautiful GT. I hope your videos will on here to learn from in the future. Otto from Denmark.

  • John, Very sad to hear your closing down, I have followed all your work on Utube - what a wonderful resource you have been. Make a compilation video and sell it on Ebay. Thanks

  • I learned a lot from your videos, thank you so much for sharing. You are a good man.

  • Your videos will be sorely missed, each one is a gem.

Thanks for everything and good luck in whatever you do in the future.

  • John. Thanks for the many videos, sharing your knowledge of the MG marque. Never have I felt so at ease calling you on the phone during the technical hour to ask some really embarrassing questions. Why don't I have oil pressure after a rebuild....you nailed it....wrong oil pump gasket....as two types come in the rebuild kit...and on and on. My carb somehow ran better after your rebuild, rather than after mine. Thanks again as your shop and employees will be missed. Mike S Chicago

  • John,

What a sad note to find in the mail! I had hoped a business such as yours would be around for a long time to come, I guess I was just younger than I should have been and really enjoyed coming to your workshops for the last few years. You were so nice and knowledgeable, and I talk about your dedication to MG's all the time with my car friends. Best of luck and wish you were able to continue. Enjoy retirement and being able to travel more to MG events.

  • JOHN - This is truly a sad, sad time...

Thank you so much for all the mechanical work you did on our "A" and also for all the advice you have offered via Email & phone.

Hope to meet up sometime in the future AND hope to continue to see you in the "LBC world"!!.

    Regards, Chuck

    Auburn NY

  • John, I want to thank you for your dedication to the trade and sharing your knowledge with us. You're a great mentor and an inspriation for everyone who has the desire to work on their on MGB and other LBCs. Your explanations helped in many situations where Bentley failed.

  • Thank you Mr. Twist. Thank you for your commitment to the MG brand. It saddens me that University Motors is closing. I had hoped to see it one day. I know that your interest in MGs will continue. I certainly hope that you continue with the important technical information we all need. Good luck in all that you do John.

  • John, much much appreciated your youtube contributions as it helped us a lot while restaurating an '64 B (I drive a '74 GT on LPG for daily use). Hope you will do well.

    Again thanks,

    Marten

  • John,

Thank you for all the great info about these fun cars! (thanks to you I know how to properly shut the bonnet on my MGB). Please keep in touch and hope to see you some time in Sunny Florida.

  • How very sad!! I hope you'll all be ok, perhaps you should make instructional videos? Or perhaps talk to Discovery channel? An MG version of American Chopper/Hotrod could be good - or an American version of the UK's wreck rescue? I'm sure I speak for all UK MG enthusiasts when I say your videos will be greatly missed (even if the steering wheels were always on the wrong side :0) !!)

  • No, THANK YOU!!! For the amazing video's and really clear directions! All the best to you!!!

    Kind regards, Thomas

  • It's a sad day for the British car hobby. I've had the pleasure of visiting your shop a few times and it will be missed. Best of luck to you and yours John.

  • Wow! That's just terribly sad to hear. It's sometimes hard to imagine how bad the economy is, until it hits home. John, you are very inspirational and will always be looked up to by owners and enthusiasts of British cars. I can only hope that more young people will get into this hands on, pre-computerized mechanics trade. I know you will still stay active in the MG community and hope to see you at some upcoming shows. Good luck, and thank you for all of your teachings.

  • I had the pleasure of bringing my MGB gearbox in for on one of John's "combat course" rebuild seminars. A terrific experience, and not available anywhere else... Sad to hear the shop is closing down.

  • John, It's a sad day for all LBC people. Thank you (and your staff) for giving so much of your time and experience to cybermechanics everywhere. Hope to see you start up another enterprise after you get a long vacation.

    Good luck. Greg

    Santa Maria CA

  • I'm saddened to hear of this, John - you've been a tremendous help to those of us who own LBCs and do our own work.

Thanks for everything you've done to pass on your knowledge and experience! I'll cherish the videos you've posted!

  • All the best to you and you staff in the future John. Hope to meet you at MG 2009.

    Paul

  • I am very, very sorry to hear this. Without mechanics (and teachers) of your caliber I fear future generations will have nobody to keep their MGs alive. I wish I'd known you were going to be in Maine this weekend, I would have liked to meet up with you and shake your hand.

  • NNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

  • John,

I have never had the privilege to meet you or send you any business due to distance (I'm in western Canada). But I was really sorry to see you guys go. University Motors has been, and will always be, a pillar of British Motoring. I wish you and the folks in U.Motors all the best in your future and I hope one day I will have the pleasure in meeting you in person. Thanks again and all the best.

  • I can't believe this! You guys have a great thing going there, it's very very sad to see it go.

I still hope you'll do some more video's John, they are of the best on youtube. Thanks for all your dedication!

  • Thank you so much for putting all of this information online. I'm in FL so there's really no way to bring in an MGB or Spitfire so your videos have been great and will continue to be a source for the British Car DIY.

  • WOW, I am so sorry to see you go! I was so hoping that over the next year i would have saved enough money to send out my 1968 MG Midget, and possibly when that returned i would have saved enough to send out my 1967 MGB. This is a great loss to the community, Your expertise is reknown!

Enjoy your retirement John! you deserve the best!

  • Thank you so much for all of the videos. I have learned a lot and enjoyed watching.

  • Sorry to see you go, I have learned so much from your videos and it has helped me immensely.

  • sorry to hear you go. I had hoped that one day I'd have enough money to send to you along with my midget so that you could save it. Now it looks like I'll just have to do it myself and learn how to do body work.

  • Sorry to see you go. Your videos have been a godsend in the never ending mechanichal upkeep of my MGB. Thanks again and enjoy your retirement. Good luck from Vancouver Canada

  • What a shame.Where to find expert help now..? Thank you so much for your videos, you should have them published on DVD!

  • Sorry to see you go - Best of luck in the future. I know many many MG Enthusiasts who have gained huge technical ability by watching your videos. K

  • agreed sir. take care, and good luck perhaps one day you can open up again maybe a bit smaller, btu one can hope. take care and good luck

  • :-(

  • Wow, i was the first to watch this. Sorry to see you go. I live in AZ, otherwise I'd be down there with my Sprite! But I have had a few questions answered on your tech line, and I appreciate all you've done for the LBC community! The youtube videos are priceless. Thanks again.
