  • awesome

  • I made one in 1979. It used a wire mesh rolled into a cylinder of 1' tall. This was tacked to a round 3' wide plywood base and turned via a motor. This was the imparting of angular momentum to the flow. Then an old vac cleaner up top in a cardboard barrel I found. Can't remem if I got sub-vorts. :) There's a sweet one in Wichita KS 'Exploration Place". It's free standing, with vanes to impart the correct 'swirl ratio'. You can wave your hand and cause 'vortex breakdown'! Have fun. Shaggy
  • Christian morales is soooo mlg pro.

  • did you just check every single video and commented??

  • der dreht sich irgendwie in die andere richtung als ein tornado eig drehen soll!

  • ive seen hundreds of these but now try to make a multiple vortex tornado with this

  • I was gonna say the same thing :) lol

I'm working on plans for a new tornado model at the moment and I'm hoping to start work on it in the new years once I can get some space cleared in my room as this one is a bit more advanced than the alot of the basic models people make at home.

I do plan on making it capable of generating multiple vorticies as well and so, it'll be interesting to see how that pans out.

I should mention that the video is sped up from time lapse with wind sound effect.

  • i think i have found a way that works

    with out the complex designs

but i havent tested it yet

  • Nice one :), once you are able to get your machine up and running, it'll be great to see a video clip or 2 of it in operation :)

The idea I have will actually be the most complex I've done, but so far, I've made a tornado as tall as 7.5ft and the widest was about 5" across as had a real nice "Dust whirl" inflow layer at the base :)

There was a much larger and more basic version of the idea I had, but it's be too big to set up at home :) lol

  • my video camera is broken :(

nothing will be up for a while

    but this is my model

    components: 2 fans,4 binders,and visible mist bowl

to get the swirl ratio on mine right

i placed 1 fan 4 feet 8 inches from edge of the binder circle and the other fan is 5 feet 6 inches from the other end

the binder are stacked 2 high and are on opposite sides of each other

there are 2 holes between the binders to let air in this is a true MVT because there is a down draft in the middle

  • i found another design for MVT like a week ago :P

  • For my machine(which is smaller) i used a cool mist humidifier instead of dry ice.

  • did you put the dry ice in the boiling water?? i made mine with cardboard it works well just dont place the box near the flame so it wont burn lol

  • Those noises sound like a tornado!

  • cool lil whirlwind

I put just freezing ice cubes(dry though) and cold water too make more steam!

  • plz tell me how u did that Becuase i would like to use that in one of my movies.?!!

  • its simply a styrofoam box that has slits in each of the four edges and a fan sucking air out at the top. hot plate with boiling water(or really anything that makes visible vapor) at the bottom, i got the water boiling, then threw in dry ice to make it more apparent. you can also search google on how to make a tornado simulator to help.

  • why do you need slits at each side of the box

  • what kind of fan are you using

  • they did that in @bristol

    they just use smoke

  • it has dry ice...i know that much...nice..it looks real

  • try putting hot water to make more smoke.i like it
