there is a regular ruby, AND a flawless ruby, so make sure you really LOOK beside the brazier, instead of thinking the reg ruby is the one you need. The flawless was in the crevice behind the brazier. :)

And you will literally swim on gems. Every container (specially burial urns and chests) will yield 1-8 flawless jewels. After clearing a single dungeon once I completed that quest I picked up the following Flawless stones: 8 Diamonds, 33 Ruby, 22 Sapphires, 28 Garnets, 17 Emeralds and 18 Amethysts.

You will actually need to cicle thru all stores in the game 2 or 3 times to be able to sell everything for pure coin, or get any items from them you wanted.

Wanted to throw this out there too for all you guys and gals. My lvl 27 char. just found a flawless ruby on top of the dwemer ruins of Mzulft. It is SE of Windhelm and SE of the Cragwallow Slope cavern. As I said it was in a chest near a broken steam pipe and several moving wall mounted gears on what appears to be the highest point of the ruins. This is outside of the ruins themselves.

@9chaos1forever thanks, it was there (i'm level 19). But note that he means the entrance closest to Falkreath, South Shriekwind Bastion. It doesn't matter if you come in from the North, but i think it takes longer.

I can confirm the first one, but you need to save right outside the cave, because it is random loot. Took me about 20 mins to actually find one.

FLAWLESS RUBY: If you're looking for one I think I found a set loot chest in Mzinchaleft Depths. Check the falmer hut near a twirling stone ramp that leads to a tower with a button to activate a light. Let me know if this works for you guys.

I was acually in THIS exact cave when I found this video!!!!!!! the treasure is random though.. be shure to save before entering if you want to get nice eqp. and be able to reload;) also- treasuretables are level based in cheasts like this so a flawless ruby might be almost unobtainible before level 20 or something(?)

Harrald's quest reward is randomized. Before you turn it in, save and reload until you get the gems you desire. I had to do it about seven times to get my ruby xP

There is a fixed flawless ruby in Shriekwind bastion almost immediatly NE of Falkreath. Enter dungeon, take left at 1st intersection. Blood stained torture room with single throne. On the right of the throne is a unlit fire brazier. It is on the dark part of the floor left of this brazier.

@birchmant No problem, Glad I could help. My first run through I did this quest at lvl 51 so had everything I needed. When I went for the ovlivian walker achievement though I had to start over and this was really hard to find. Just remember it is fixed...so pass the word.

@9chaos1forever1 I spent the better part of an hour looking all over that room and never noticed it. 3 hours of trying several different methods, (38 tried of Harrald, an hour finding Kath and 14 tries in the mine, etc.) and after reading/watching three guides you give me the most precise description I found. @9chaos1forever1 poeple, do not liek this! this is not fixed, and the flalwss ruby only appear at later levels, I tested the shirekwind bastion 7 times with my level 20 paladin, and the ruby was not flawless, adn i tried once with my level 57 assassin and got it on my first time.

@9chaos1forever1 paladin is a second name for crusader, a warrior that uses a mace/sword in one hand a healing spell/ward on the other and heavy armor, and assassin? well back stabing.. and well yeah, in this warrior characther i have been very unlucky with loot and random spawns..

Twothousand's method does work, you just have to do a different method.

Go get Harralds sword in Riften, but before you complete the quest, save it.

The gems he gives to you are random, the first time, I recieved a diamond and a flawless sapphire, i reloaded my autosave, and got a flawless garnet and a flawless ruby.

Harrald gives a random gem or two. Shriekwind Bastion was supposed to have one, but it was a normal ruby for me. Best choice is to enter a (large) mine and save, then mine away til you get one. If not, then reload and repeat.

Giants almost always have flawless gems on them too you can just keep reloading the autosave coming into this cave til you get one as well...

If anyone isn't having luck with random locations and doesn't want to constantly reload saves there are flawless rubies in; The vampire lair - Shriekwind Bastion, The throne room inside Korvanjund (during the civil war quests) and the Emperors ship - The Katariah (In a jewellery box at the foot of the Emperor's bed and during the final Dark Brotherhood mission).

I looked all through Shriekwind Bastion and couldn't find one, then I tried The Katariah but of course I can't get to it because I don't have that quest, and I can't seem to find out how to get that quest...

@webgrunt You want to go to either Windhelm or Soltitude to start the Civil war quest-line - Talk to either Ulfric or Talius.

That ruby is pretty hard to find and get though, its on a ledge to the left of the throne room. If you have the time though, mining inside of a mine will eventually get you a flawless ruby among other gems. Just enter, save, mine and if you have no luck reload and repeat.. I got lucky and got mine the first time I went in to mine.

Thanks, man! I think it might have to do with levels as well, some people are saying your level needs to be higher than mine before you start getting flawless rubies. I'm leveling up a bit and will see how it goes, also I'll try the civil war quest and/or mining.

Talk to Harrald at Mistveil keep in Riften and do his very simple task of retrieving his sword from the blacksmith in town, he gives you a ruby and a flawless ruby as a reward only takes a minute to do. :)

@xRevelations1 is right, just south east of the Sky Haven Temple is a boat (not a ship) with many rubies and garnets on it. Flawless Ruby is on it, you gotta look hard tho cuz they are scattered :)

I just found one in a chest in Soljunds sinkhole directly west of rorikstead after falling down the hole in the mine I proceeded through the tunnels killing the draugr after passing through the iron gate after killing 3 draugr in a room with a rectangle shaped pool of water in I took the left side path to the chest with the flawless ruby in. I was lvl 23 at this point. The right side path leads to a Draugr Scourge Lord and 2 statues throw fire balls at you it can be quite tricky so be prepared.

heres what you can do, just quick save at that point and try to see if u can uncover a flawless ruby. if not, just reload that save point until you get it. i did it and got it my 2nd try.
