when i first played this prior to crisis core release i always thought that it was hilarious that Shinra sent Sephiroth and *ahem* Cloud all the way around the world payed for the ferry from Junon to Costa del Sol sent them on a few day drive all the way to Nibelheim.............just to turn a value
Ryushikaze, the problem with those memories is timing. This is the original. Which means that 1. No living legacy crap: Cloud's persona is a product of his shame that he never made SOLDIER in front of Tifa and 2. Zack's bullet in the brains dead when Cloud wakes up. For him to have Zack's memories, Mako addicted Cloud must have already been copying Zack's memories while they were travelling. In the game the empathesis is put on it being because Cloud was ashamed. So I dunno.
The general understanding is that he does subliminally copy them, at least in part, while Zack was alive. I understand the confusion, but the ability to copy memories is a canon power of Jenova and Jenova cells. Cloud creating the false persona is a major part of his shame, I don't deny that, but there are a few extra wrenches in his metaphorical works too.
@Ryushikaze Well, that makes the whole situation a major coincidence. Jenova's cells are copying Zack memories, you know just case Cloud for whatever reason may want to have memories of a SOLDIER First class handy, then Tifa: the only person left alive on the Planet who Cloud would want to convince he is a SOLDIER First Class is the very next person to find him.
