I just did a mastering session with Bernie last month, I have seen this video before and remember this guys attitude. When I was in the lobby waiting, I heard this voice around the corner and thought "Shit" here he comes, ugh. Surprisingly, we talked and he was the coolest guy, he is very different in real life. But yes, Bernie has such a great history no one needs to be sold on his facility.

@KieroTakoBell Imagine a DAW playing back 25+ audio tracks, at 44 or 48K sampling rate... tiny errors within each second of each waveforms create a muddy sound... hearing a CD you think you know played back on an audio out with quality word clock will blow your mind. Way more depth, space, and clarity! A $100 M-Audio vs an RME or Apogee for example....

to continue...getting that analog sound dithered down and bit mapped to cd is extremely hard without rare artistry and and extremely well trained ear.

Its taking a high resolution 96khz 24 bit master(or 192khz),and converting it to an analog signal and resamplig after various compression techniques and purpose built gear that Bernie designed.Note his old analog consul is the secret to his best masters,one he designed and built.Dithering can work fairly well but not as well as that old consul.

I like the vids but time and time again I see guys with these crazy expensive systems for mixing and mastering and as technology gets better and better, less gear is required for the more talented engineer. The most talented engineer could make a billboard hit record with a descent mic pre and Fruity Loops with the standard crappy plug-ins.  It's becoming more and more apparent that the guys who say you need a 2 million dollar console are the guys who are just trying to make their money back...

@gwmgbwi yeh u can write a record on any D,A,W. but before that song hits the bllboard charts I can asure u that it will be re-mixed and mastered through at least some of that same gear regardless of anyone's knowledge. Everybody wants to sound as good or better than the guy before him and that is not gonna happen doing a mix with shit fruity loops plugins and just mixing down to a wav. and buning a cd. Some people just cant' tell the difference beetween something average and something quality

When did a mastering engineer become secondary to the equipment they use? That's like saying the artist is secondary to his oils and canvas.

Great mastering engineers are far and few, and are artists. I for one do not want "Bernie to squeeze a bit more out".

I want it natural, not squeezed or compressed or full of EQ.

I am sure glad that B.S.M. ditched that thief /hack Hoffman and put a real Mastering Studio on its products. I loved it when Huffy said that he gave you guys all of his left over work! Truthfully, the projects seem to walk away when somebody remembers who that hack is. Huffy know calls Bernie treble energy! Huffy needs to remember that there is more to mastering than running a recording through 3 layers of tubes and calling it professional work.
