Why is the mechanical radar used so slow compared to the military and civilian systems used for monitoring the airspace when it comes to meteorological purposes ?
This is not about being the best this is about saving lives. I am a storm spotter and work closely with the meteorologists in my area. As said in the video right now we have about 10-15 minutes advanced warning of tornadoes with the phased array radar we would be able to have 30 mintues to 1 hour advaned warning of a tornado. The United States has the most tornadoes per year then any other country in the world. We get hit by around 1000-2000 tornadoes which no other country comes close.
@lesleyhenriquez Yes USA always has to be 1. Bigger and better than anyone else or at least thats what they will always tell us - but look more closely big is not always better.
@UsonianAC You have the advantage of mega bucks of funding, i'm proud of what we achieve for next to nothing. In respect to improving the technology, I'm not sure I have seen any evidence of that.
